Abstract:In American TV industry,the performance of syndicate is very common.The TV program syndicate is a program distribution system,the most representative one of syndicate program is American TV series.This paper analyses the syndicate phenomenon and discusses the economics problems of the media industry.

Abstract:As a key part of the current television program, the television drama is an important source of the viewer rating. There are three production modes of the foreign television drama which are American, British and Korean modes. While the American and British modes emphasize the separate value of production and broadcast, the Korean mode prefer the combination of the two. Due to different income and risk, the manufacturer acquires a different ability in overseas market. The paper suggests that the income distribution between broadcast organizations monopolized by state-owned television stations and competitive manufacture organizations predominated by private capital is imbalanced and is the main restriction for Chinas television drama to carry o its overseas strategy.
History and Strategy of the Circulation of US TV Series in China: an Analysis from Perspective of Cultural History

Abstract:: American TV series is the most widely spread and influential type of program of American TV industry in the world, and it has been circulating in China for nearly 40 years. The circulation of American TV series in China has gone through four stages: the introduction and circulation of American TV series in the 1980s, the circulation of American TV series driven by consumer civilization in the 1990s, the invisible transmission of American TV series at the beginning of the new century, and the stage of legitimate transmission of American TV series on the Internet in the 2020s. The circulation of American TV series in China is a typically type and differentiation communication, and its impact depends on the cultural needs of the audience. Due to the different historical themes with social changes and the diverse acceptance motivations of audiences, the mainstream types of American dramas represented by sitcoms, sci-fi dramas and action dramas are the most popular categories in China, which is involved in the construction of Chinese contemporary popular culture in a unique way. In addition, from the three dimensions of production and broadcasting, marketing and value, the following communication experience can be found in American TV series in China: various American TV series require them to not only strictly regulate themselves in the production and broadcasting process, but also carry out commercial marketing activities in pursuit of profit. At the same time, different kinds of American TV series are more committed to covering common topics of as many social groups as possible, winning the greatest value identification in the world, and relentlessly pursuing the essential goal of cross -cultural and cross -regional communication

Abstract:An analysis of programming on 34 national broadcast television networks in nine Far East Asian countries shows that in countries that are wealthier and/or that devote relatively large proportions of their gross domestic product (GDP) to broadcast media, larger percentages of TV program hours are domestically produced, particularly drama programs. A main suggestion of our analysis is that in Far East Asia the economic impact of new video media development on domestic production industries and on public television systems will be less than has been experienced in Western Europe.

Abstract:Considering the specificity of people’s behaviors in professional sports broadcast mar‐ket ,this paper first conducts economic analysis on institution of broadcast rights selling ,broad‐cast revenues distribution ,as well as the charge for broadcast contents .Also ,there is an inter‐national comparative study on institutional arrangement in professional sports broadcasting mar‐kets in USA ,UK ,Germany and Spain ,with a purpose to investigate and explain the character‐istics and enforcement of institutions in those countries .On the basis of the research above ,as well as the history and current situation in China ,we propose that professional sports managers and officials should follow these three principles .Firstly ,certain collective selling rules should be established to realize the market value .Secondly ,revenue redistribution should be arranged to maintain competitive balance and sustainable development of leagues .Thirdly ,broadcast con‐tents should be charged properly to give consideration to both private and public welfare in the society .

Abstract:The business of television has been transformed by digital distribution and internationalisation. The implications of these changes vary based on a range of structural dynamics such as national scale, language and pre-existing norms tied to particular macroeconomic conditions, of which, the balance of funding is key. This article looks beyond the general sense of crisis tied to digital disruption to investigate the macroeconomic conditions that shape how national television industries are able to adapt and respond to the disruption. Although disruption is universal, different macroeconomic conditions enable different industrial impacts and possible policy solutions. The article uses comparative analysis of three English language countries with very distinctive television ecologies to reveal the under-acknowledged role macroeconomic features – particularly the advent of new tools for advertising – play in shaping the options and opportunities for national industries going forward.

Abstract:This study adapts Giddens' structuration theory to assess audience agency and its relationship with media structures. It employs network analysis to examine the co-evolution of audience duplication patterns and elements of media structure in China's national television market. The findings reveal that Chinese audiences tend to gravitate to channels with greater market share, higher household penetration rates, and more drama programming. Furthermore, channels tend to adjust their levels of drama programming relative to patterns of audience duplication in the long run. Finally, there was evidence of higher-order patterns of audience behavior, suggesting the existence of channel repertoires, and market concentration.

Abstract:With the competition in the Chinese television market increasingly intensified,the attention from the industry,academia,as well as government regulators has been focused on the problem as to how to establish an objective and just evaluation system for television programs.The current evaluation system has attracted widespread criticism mainly for the reason that the ratings function as the exclusive criterion and the guidelines for the evaluation of a television program.Essentially,not only the quantitative analysis but also the qualitative research should be taken into consideration within a comprehensive construction of television program evaluation system.Therefore,it is the rational return and inevitable choice for the current television program evaluation to organically combine the ratings survey and satisfaction investigation of a program.

Abstract:This chapter argues that the 2008 global economic crisis and the economic restructuring that followed have accelerated state-led digitization, corporation, and capital accumulation within the state media system. After contextualizing media reforms as part of the state’s cultural-system reform program, the chapter examines the case of digital TV, tracing the bumpy process of using convergence as a cover to corporatize cable networks and content production while revealing the leading role of state-owned digital media companies exemplified by Shanghai Media Group and Zhejiang Wasu in this process. It also underscores the inherent contradictions of the corporate digital-TV enterprise, especially demand deficiency resulting from systematic socioeconomic inequality and the contingency of public service left to the discretion of state companies that manage digital TV.

Abstract:This paper mainly analyzes the current situation and causes of Chinese TV program cultural product trade. First of all, the data and charts show that the import and export trade of China’s TV programs keeps a large deficit and the international competitiveness is insufficient. Moreover, the import and export trade of Chin’s domestic television programs is mainly concentrated in Asian countries. Then, according to the present situation, this paper explores the reasons for its emergence. The cultural industry of China is not fully mature, has many restrictive factors and lacks the competitive vitality of the market. At the same time, cultural discount will also have a certain impact on the import and export volume of TV programs.

Abstract:If the cultural system reform in the 1980s and 1990s was peripheral and sluggish, in the 21st century it has become a central part of China's unswerving reform and noticeably gained velocity after 2008. Aiming to build up a cultural market economy, the reform is transforming the majority of cultural institutions into state-owned and even state-controlled shareholding corporations, while strengthening the public service obligation of state financing in a few non-profitable areas. By chronicling and contextualizing reform efforts, this article not only documents some major lines of market development but also examines why and how the state is realigning its public and corporate sectors in such a particular mode of synthesis, especially in two leading media sectors: film and TV broadcasting. While Chinese communication scholars have documented how the overlap between the state and market forces creates dominant cultural processes in China, focusing on the state's straightforward efforts at commercialization, this article offers an updated understanding of verifiable policy and institutional changesespecially the de-commercialization' movement embodied by the return of public units.

Abstract:The article opens with a brief statement on the historical relations between feature-film and television-program production in Hollywood. The basic corporate context within which television-program production and distribution are accomplished is described in detail. Special attention is paid here to issues of vertical integration and disintegration across the entire chain of activities in the television industry. The geography of television-program production in the United States is analyzed and the pre-eminence of Hollywood in this regard is underlined. The dynamics of locational agglomeration in Hollywood are scrutinized. A case study of a primetime television show is presented in which it is demonstrated how production of the show depends upon an extraordinarily detailed system of procurements from suppliers in and around Hollywood. The accelerating process of decentralization of certain kinds of television production activities from Hollywood is then subject to analysis. The article concludes on a speculative note in which it is predicted that in the future, and especially in the television-program producing segment of the entertainment industry, Hollywood is likely to face intensifying competition in global markets.

Abstract:From a global perspective, the US, or “Hollywood,” has long dominated the entertainment industry. As early as 1939, an estimated 65 % of films shown worldwide had a US origin and today, Hollywood blockbusters routinely gross just as much or more from international distribution as they do from domestic receipts (Miller et al. 2005). Television, often thought to be the domain of mostly national audiences, is increasingly becoming a global phenomenon as well. A recent development along these lines is that of “formatting;” it has become quite common for the format, or concept, of a popular television program, to be sold overseas and remade for local audiences. It is this formatting trend that is the primary focus of this chapter. Formatting raises several intriguing issues, including the sustained US dominance of the medium, whether formats promote or counter cultural homogenization, and questions about the transferability of the unique sense of place that characterizes certain television series. It is important to first establish the historic hegemony of US television in the global marketplace, as well as to provide a brief history of formats and a description of the top players in this industry, before exploring how these questions might be answered.

Abstract:Contemporary international television offers a rich site for the investigation of matters concerning cultural adaptation. Over the past 20 years, a formalized, organized system has developed whereby program production knowledge can be borrowed from place to place for the re-creation of a television program in another territory. The TV program format is a kind of template or recipe whereby particular industry knowledges are packaged to facilitate this process of remaking. This article provides a trade background to the development of the TV format industry. It links the TV format's emergence to the practice of franchising, with its attendant cultural need to customize the format to suit local audience taste and outlook in a particular territory. This process of localization is examined on three levels using a model derived from translation theory. The article finds that the localization which occurs in such processes primarily involves the development of content that is nationally unexceptional through which audiences in a national territory can be addressed as a collective ‘we’. Even beyond this detail, format adaptation raises crucial issues concerning globalization and nationalization, and these are addressed in the final part of the analysis.

Abstract:The importance and asymmetry of information challenged the private equity with a dilemma.In addition,there was no effective institution to solve the problem,so syndication strategy and network appeared.Syndication network took effect through two mechanisms-certification and information uses.The PE which was in the center of the network achieved more opportunities,entry qualifications and better investment performance at last.The PE which in the medium of the network benefited from the inputs of PEs it linked,but the capacity of using information initiatively was restrained.The research conclusions were valuable for PE choosing syndication,for enterprises choosing investors as well as for the government setting up third-part structure.

Abstract:Using cultural industries’ import and export data from 2002 to 2008,this paper makes empirical analysis through the international Market Share index,Revealed Comparative Advantage index,Net Export Revealed Comparative Advantage index and industry profit index on American cultural industries’ international competitiveness.It analyzes the major influencing factors of cultural industries’ international competitiveness from America’ s cultural industries’ development strategy,the economic environment,government behavior and enterprise competitiveness,etc.The results shows that the cultural industries in America has obvious comparative advantage in the world,which further strengthens its advantages,especially in terms of its book publishing and export of culture and entertainment services.

Abstract:Internet technology should eventually provide important improvements over established media not only in the efficiency of broadband delivery, and of particularimportance, in the efficiency of business models that can be used to collect money for that programming. I identify five economic characteristics of Internet technology that should lead to these greater efficiencies: (1) lower delivery costs and reduced capacity constraints, (2) more efficient interactivity, (3) more efficient advertising and sponsorship, (4) more efficient direct pricing and bundling, and (5) lower costs of copying and sharing. The most successful Internet TV business models are likely to involve syndication to or from other media, and also international distribution. In the broader context, Internet TV is another syndication outlet by which program suppliers can segment their overall markets and thus support higher production investments. Many innovative and more sharply focused programs will surely prosper on Internet TV, but the attractiveness to audiences of high production value programming will tend to advantage broad appeal programming, such as Hollywood movies. Historical evidence about the performance of cable television and videocassettes is presented to support these points.
