Abstract:The effects of drought stress on the growth characteristics of 51 alfalfa germplasms were studied in the green house during the seedling stage.The morphological indexes including the survival rate,plant height,aboveground biomass,underground biomass and root-shoot ratio were measured and analyzed.The drought tolerance of different alfalfa germplasms were evaluated using the survival rate after repeated drought.The results showed that the survival rate,plant height and biomass decreased,while the root-shoot ratio increased under drought stress.Six germplasms with extremely strong drought tolerance,24 germplasms with strong tolerance,13 germplasms with medium tolerance,and 8 germplasms with weak tolerance were screened out.
