Abstract:We consider the evolution of the graph of f : R-n -> R-n in R-n x R-n by the mean curvature flow. We prove that the flow exists smoothly for all time if the differential of f has a positive lower bound. Moreover, at each time, the flow remains the graph of a map f(t).

Abstract:Some geometric behaviours of complete solutions to mean curvature flow before the singularities occur are studied. The author obtains the estimates of the rate of the distance between two fixed points and the derivatives of the second fundamental form. By use of a new maximum principle, some geometric properties at infinity are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper we study the regularity and singularity of the mean curvature flow of closed, smooth, embedded hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space with positive mean curvature, with an attempt to understand the geometry of first time singularities. First we consider the mean curvature flow of graphs and convex hypersurfaces. Then we consider the special blow-up solutions at the maximal mean curvature points and obtain self-similar solutions at type I singularities and translating solutions at type II singularities. Finally we show that a general blow-up sequence converges along a subsequence to a convex limit flow, and give a classification of ancient convex solutions. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 53C44, 53A10, 35J60.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $${\mathbb {R}}^{n+1}$$ with speed $$r^{\alpha } \sigma _k$$, where $$\sigma _k$$ is the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, $$\alpha \in {\mathbb {R}}^1$$, and r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin. If $$\alpha \ge k+1$$, we prove that the flow exists for all time, preserves the convexity and converges smoothly after normalisation to a sphere centred at the origin. If $$\alpha <k+1$$, a counterexample is given for the above convergence. In the case $$k=1$$ and $$\alpha \ge 2$$, we also prove that the flow converges to a round point if the initial hypersurface is weakly mean-convex and star-shaped.

Abstract:Recently, Pipoli and Sinestrari [Pipoli, G. and Sinestrari, C., Mean curvature flow of pinched submanifolds of ℝℙ n , Comm. Anal. Geom. , 25 , 2017, 799–846] initiated the study of convergence problem for the mean curvature flow of small codimension in the complex projective space ℝℙ m . The purpose of this paper is to develop the work due to Pipoli and Sinestrari, and verify a new convergence theorem for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in the complex projective space. Namely, the authors prove that if the initial submanifold in ℝℙ m satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow converges to a round point in finite time, or converges to a totally geodesic submanifold as t → ∞. Consequently, they obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:Under the hypothesis of mean curvature flows of hypersurfaces, we prove that the limit of the smooth rescaling of the singularity is weakly convex. It is a generalization of the result due to G. Huisken and C. Sinestrari in [5]. These a-priori bounds are satisfied for mean convex hypersurfaces in locally symmetric Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature.

Abstract:Let M n be a smooth, compact manifold without boundary, and F 0: M n → R n+1 a smooth immersion which is convex. The one-parameter families F(·, t): M n × [0, T) → R n+1 of hypersurfaces M t n = F(·, t)(M n ) satisfy an initial value problem dt/dF(·, t) = −H k (·, t)ν(·, t), F(·, 0) = F 0(·), where H is the mean curvature and ν(·, t) is the outer unit normal at F(·, t), such that −H ν = $\overrightarrow H $ is the mean curvature vector, and k > 0 is a constant. This problem is called H k -flow. Such flow will develop singularities after finite time. According to the blow-up rate of the square norm of the second fundamental forms, the authors analyze the structure of the rescaled limit by classifying the singularities as two types, i.e., Type I and Type II. It is proved that for Type I singularity, the limiting hypersurface satisfies an elliptic equation; for Type II singularity, the limiting hypersurface must be a translating soliton.
Mean curvature flow of an entire graph evolving away from the heat flow

Abstract:We present two initial graphs over the entire $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n \geq 2$ for which the mean curvature flow behaves differently from the heat flow. In the first example, the two flows stabilize at different heights. With our second example, the mean curvature flow oscillates indefinitely while the heat flow stabilizes. These results highlight the difference between dimensions $n \geq 2$ and dimension $n=1$, where Nara-Taniguchi proved that entire graphs in $C^{2,\alpha}(\mathbb{R})$ evolving under curve shortening flow converge to solutions to the heat equation with the same initial data.

Abstract:We consider the graphical mean curvature flow of maps ${\bf f}:\mathbb{R}^m\to\mathbb{R}^n$, $m\ge 2$, and derive estimates on the growth rates of the evolved graphs, based on a new version of the maximum principle for properly immersed submanifolds that extends the well-known maximum principle of Ecker and Huisken derived in their seminal paper [10]. In the case of uniformly area decreasing maps ${\bf f}:\mathbb{R}^m\to\mathbb{R}^2$, $m\ge 2$, we use this maximum principle to show that the graphicality and the area decreasing property are preserved. Moreover, if the initial graph is asymptotically conical at infinity, we prove that the normalized mean curvature flow smoothly converges to a self-expander.

Abstract:Consider a family of smooth immersions F(; t) : Mn ! Rn+k of submanifolds in Rn+k moving by mean curvature ow @F @t = ~H, where ~H is the mean curvature vector for the evolving submanifold. We prove that for any n 2 and k 1, the ow starting from a closed submanifold with small L2-norm of the traceless second fundamental form contracts to a round point in nite time, and the corresponding normalized ow converges exponentially in the C1-topology, to an n-sphere in some subspace Rn+1 of Rn+k.

Abstract:We show that the mean curvature flow of generic closed surfaces in avoids asymptotically conical and non-spherical compact singularities. We also show that the mean curvature flow of generic closed low-entropy hypersurfaces in is smooth until it disappears in a round point. The main technical ingredient is a long-time existence and uniqueness result for ancient mean curvature flows that lie on one side of asymptotically conical or compact shrinking solitons.

Abstract:This article studies the mean curvature flow of Lagrangian submanifolds. In particular, we prove the following global existence and convergence theorem: if the potential function of a Lagrangian graph in T^{2n} is convex, then the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly to a flat Lagrangian submanifold.

Abstract: We investigate the convergence of the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in Riemannian manifolds with bounded geometry. We prove that if the initial submanifold satisfies a pinching condition, then along the mean curvature flow the submanifold contracts smoothly to a round point in finite time. As a consequence we obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:surface Σ is a graph in ℝ 4 if there is a unit constant 2-form ω on ℝ 4 such that < e 1 ∧ e 2 , ω ≥ v 0 >0 where e 1 , e 2 is an orthonormal frame on Σ. We prove that, if ϑ _0⩾1/√(2) on the initial surface, then the mean curvature flow has a global solution and the scaled surfaces converge to a self-similar solution. A surface Σ is a graph in M 1 × M 2 where M 1 and M 2 are Riemann surfaces, if < e 1 ∧ e 2 , ω 1 >≥ v 0 >0 where ω 1 is a Kähler form on M 1 . We prove that, if M is a Kähler-Einstein surface with scalar curvature R , ϑ _0⩾1/√(2) on the initial surface, then the mean curvature flow has a global solution and it sub-converges to a minimal surface, if, in addition, R ≥0 it converges to a totally geodesic surface which is holomorphic.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a new geometric flow — the hyperbolic gradientflow for graphs in the (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space ℝ^n+1.This kind of flow is new and very natural to understand the geometry ofmanifolds. We particularly investigate the global existence of the evolution ofconvex hypersurfaces in ℝ^n+1 and the evolution of plane curves,and prove that, under the hyperbolic gradient flow, they converge to thehyperplane and the straight line, respectively, when t goes to the infinity.Our results show that the theory of shock waves of hyperbolic conservation lawscan be naturally applied to do surgery on manifolds. Some fundamental but openproblems are also given.

Abstract:It has long been conjectured that starting at a generic smooth closed embedded surface in R^3, the mean curvature flow remains smooth until it arrives at a singularity in a neighborhood of which the flow looks like concentric spheres or cylinders. That is, the only singularities of a generic flow are spherical or cylindrical. We will address this conjecture here and in a sequel. The higher dimensional case will be addressed elsewhere. The key in showing this conjecture is to show that shrinking spheres, cylinders and planes are the only stable self-shrinkers under the mean curvature flow. We prove this here in all dimensions. An easy consequence of this is that every other singularity than spheres and cylinders can be perturbed away.

Abstract:For any n-dimensional smooth manifold $\Sigma $, we show that all the singularities of the mean curvature flow with any initial mean convex hypersurface in $\Sigma $ are cylindrical (of convex type) if the flow converges to a smooth hypersurface $M_\infty $ (maybe empty) at infinity. Previously this was shown (1) for $n\le 7$, and (2) for arbitrary n up to the first singular time without the smooth condition on $M_\infty $.

Abstract:In this paper, we will derive a small energy regularity theorem for the meancurvature flow of arbitrary dimension and codimension. It says that if theparabolic integral of |A|^2 around a point in space-time is small, then themean curvature flow cannot develop singularity at this point. As anapplication, we can prove that the 2-dimensional Hausdorff measure of thesingular set of the mean curvature flow from a surface to a Riemannian manifoldmust be zero.

Abstract:We prove the short-time existence of the hyperbolic inverse (mean) curvature flow (with or without the specified forcing term) under the assumption that the initial compact smooth hypersurface of ℝ n +1 ( n ⩾ 2) is mean convex and star-shaped. Several interesting examples and some hyperbolic evolution equations for geometric quantities of the evolving hypersurfaces are shown. Besides, under different assumptions for the initial velocity, we can get the expansion and the convergence results of a hyperbolic inverse mean curvature flow in the plane ℝ 2 , whose evolving curves move normally.
