Abstract:Micro-sized uniform square two-dimensional single crystalline ZnS thin nanosheets were prepared on a large scale. The ZnS thin nanosheets were grown via a simple solvothermal method using Zn(Ac)2 powder and SC(NH2)2 as the original reactant and ethylenediamine(en) as the solvent. The room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurement reveals that the as-prepared ZnS nanosheets have visible emission of 518.2nm within the range of green. XRD, TEM, HRTEM and TGA analysis were also carried out to characterize the product. The square single-crystal ZnS nanosheets with visible emission within the range of green may have great potential applications in nanodevices.

Abstract:ZnS nanoparticles and one-dimensional nanocrystals were obtained by in-situ synthesis in Aa-AMPS-hT ternary periodic copolymer by ion complexometry and self-assembly method. The micro-morphology, structure and optical properties were characterized by TEM, SED, UV-vis spectra and PL spectra. The results show that the products are hexagonal ZnS nanocrystals with 15 nm-215 nm in diameter. The morphology and dimension of ZnS nanoparticles could be controlled by varying the sulfaration time. The UV-vis absorption spectra indicate that the absorption edges are blue-shifted by shortening the sulfuration time, exhibiting a marked quantum size effect. With shortening sulfuration time, the photoluminescence emission peak of 409.8 nm is blue-shifted, which could be ascribed to be the forbidden gap emission.

Abstract:The monodisperse ZnS nanospheres were synthesized by a solvothermal method. The nanospheres were characterized using XRD, TEM, UV-vis, and photoluminescence spectra. The results demonstrate that ZnS nanospheres are highly crystalline. The strong photoluminescence emission at 450 nm (blue) can be observed in the ZnS nanospheres.

Abstract:Zinc sulphide spheres-like nanoparticles had been synthesized via the hydrothermal route under the different conditions.The particles were characterized by X-ray Diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and UV-VIS measured was used to study the sample's optical properties.Band gap of ZnS was calculated by the least-square method fitting,and its optical properties was discussed.

Abstract:In this review, the progress made during the last two years with respect to the syntheses and novel properties of one-dimensional (1D) ZnS nanostructures is presented. Primarily the research on 1D ZnS nanostructures has been of growing interest owing to their promising applications in nanoscale optoelectronic devices. Diverse 1D ZnS nanostructures with delicately-tuned morphologies, sizes, and microstructures have been synthesized through relatively simple and well-controlled techniques. Some novel properties of the nanomaterials have been explored and the relationships between their structural features and functions have been understood gradually.

Abstract:Nanoscaled alpha-ZnS spheres about 35 nm in diameter were synthesized by a chemical solution way. XRD and TEM results showed that the nanoscaled ZnS spheres were made up of secondary nanoparticles with diameters about 6 nm. Two emission bands were observed in the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of ZnS nanocrystals, one centered at 430 nm while the other at 360 nm. The former was attributed to the surface trapped emission, while the latter was assigned to the near band-edge emission. The Raman spectra characterization showed that no photodecomposition was observed under the strong laser irradiation, which indicated that the as-prepared ZnS nanocrystals were of high chemical stability.

Abstract:AbstractSemiconductor nanostructure arrays are of great scientific and technical interest because of the strong non‐linear and electro‐optic effects that occur due to carrier confinement in three dimensions. The use of such nanostructure arrays with tailored geometry, array density, and length‐diameter‐ratio as building blocks are expected to play a crucial role in future nanoscale devices. With the unique properties of a direct wide‐bandgap semiconductor, such as the presence of polar surfaces, excellent transport properties, good thermal stability, and high electronic mobility, ZnS nanostructure arrays has been a developing material star. The research on ZnS nanostructure arrays has seen remarkable progress over the last five years due to the unique properties and important potential applications of nanostructure arrays, which are summarized here. Firstly, a survey of various methods to the synthesis of ZnS nanostructure arrays will be introduced. Next recent efforts on exploiting the unique properties and applications of ZnS nanostructure arrays are discussed. Potential future directions of this research field are also highlighted.

Abstract:This manuscript presents the preparation and characterization of ZnO/ZnS nanostructured materials through sulfuration conversion from ZnO nanorods by a simple chemical synthesis. ZnO nanorods are synthesized by SDS-assisted hydrothermal growth. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques are used to characterize the ZnO nanorods and the novel ZnO/ZnS nanocomposites. The results show that the ZnO nanorods are wurtzite crystal structure and the ZnS nanoparticles are sphalerite structure with the average size of about 10nm grown on the surface of the ZnO nanorods. The measurements of the optical properties reveal that ZnO/ZnS nanocomposites have integrated the photoluminescent effect of ZnO and ZnS. Comparing to the bare ZnO nanorods with the ultraviolet, blue and green emissions of the ZnO/ZnS nanocomposites are dramatically enhanced, while the orange emission is passivated. In addition, the growth mechanism of ZnO/ZnS nanocomposites is discussed preliminarily.

Abstract:ZnS nanoparticles have been prepared by using 2, 3-dimercaptoethylthiopropanethiol (BES) as the coordinating modifier reagent to form Zn-thiol complex at low reaction temperatures. By controlling the experimental conditions, the diameter of the ZnS nanopaticles can be tuned from 43 nm to 115 nm. Systematic experiments were carried out to investigate the factors such as the amounts of the reagents (thiourea and BES) and the temperature, which have great influence on the sizes of the products. And when the content of BES is much higher, ZnS nanopaticles with mercapto surface modification were synthesized. In addition, massive blue shift in UV-vis spectra has been observed and the photoluminescence spectra of the ZnS show a strong emission at approximate 432 nm and 527 nm. Therefore, the preparation and properties studies of different ZnS sizes will offer great opportunities to explore the dependence of a material's properties and find many interesting applications in the optical devices.

Abstract:Zinc sulfide (ZnS) is one of the first semiconductors discovered. It has traditionally shown remarkable versatility and promise for novel fundamental properties and diverse applications. The nanoscale morphologies of ZnS have been proven to be one of the richest among all inorganic semiconductors. In this article, we provide a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art research activities related to ZnS nanostructures. We begin with a historical background of ZnS, description of its structure, chemical and electronic properties, and its unique advantages in specific potential applications. This is followed by in-detail discussions on the recent progress in the synthesis, analysis of novel properties and potential applications, with the focus on the critical experiments determining the electrical, chemical and physical parameters of the nanostructures, and the interplay between synthetic conditions and nanoscale morphologies. Finally, we highlight the recent achievements regarding the improvement of ZnS novel properties and finding prospective applications, such as field emitters, field effect transistors (FETs), p-type conductors, catalyzators, UV-light sensors, chemical sensors (including gas sensors), biosensors, and nanogenerators. Overall this review presents a systematic investigation of the ‘synthesis-property-application’ triangle for the diverse ZnS nanostructures.

Abstract:In this paper, we prepared the ZnO nanoparticles by a simple hydrothermal method and fabricated the ZnO/SiO2 core/shell nanostructures through a sol–gel chemistry process successfully. The hollow SiO2 nanostructures were obtained by selective removal of the ZnO cores. The structure, morphology and composition of the products were determined by the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results indicated that the ZnO nanoparticles were sphere-like shape with the average size of 60nm and belonged to hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure. With the coating of SiO2, the vibration modes of Si–O–Si and Si–OH were found. Furthermore, the measurement results of optical properties showed that spectra of bare ZnO nanoparticles and ZnO/SiO2 core/shell nanocomposites exhibited similar emission features, including a blue emission peak and an orange emission band.
Synthesis and optical properties of ZnO–ZnS core-shell nanotube arrays

Abstract:Heterostructured ZnO-ZnS core-shell nanotube arrays with the diameters of 50-80 nm and lengths up to I mu m were synthesized by a two-step chemical reaction. First, the ZnO layer was grown by atomic-layer deposition. It was found that the preferred, growth orientation was strongly dependent on the substrate temperature. After sulfuration conversion from arrayed ZnO nanorods, the ZnS-ZnO composite arrays can be successfully prepared, as evidenced from transmission electron microscopy. This confirms that the ZnO-ZnS core-shell nanotube-arrayed structure has been fabricated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis indicates that the binding energy of S 2p is the same as that of bulk single-crystal ZnS and that the Zn 2p(3/2) peak is shifted about 0.5 eV due to the formation of Zn-S bonds. Photoluminescence shows the relative-intensity ratio of ultraviolet emission (I-UV) to deep-level emission (I-DLE) for ZnO/ZnS core-shell nanotubes can be enhanced to be nine times that of original ZnO nanotubes. Abstract:ZnO/ZnS core/shell nanostructures, which are studied for diverse possible applications, ranging from semiconductors, photovoltaics, and light-emitting diodes (LED), to solar cells, infrared detectors, and thermoelectrics, were synthesized and characterized by XRD, HR-(S)TEM, and analytical TEM (EDX and EELS). Moreover, band-gap measurements of the ZnO/ZnS core/shell nanostructures have been performed using UV/Vis DRS. The experimental results were combined with theoretical modeling of ZnO/ZnS (hetero)structures and band structure calculations for ZnO/ZnS systems, yielding more insights into the properties of the nanoparticles. The ab initio calculations were performed using hybrid PBE0 and HSE06 functionals. The synthesized and characterized ZnO/ZnS core/shell materials show a unique three-phase composition, where the ZnO phase is dominant in the core region and, interestingly, the auxiliary ZnS compound occurs in two phases as wurtzite and sphalerite in the shell region. Moreover, theoretical ab initio calculations show advanced semiconducting properties and possible band-gap tuning in such ZnO/ZnS structures.

Abstract:A variety of novel hierarchical ZnO structures, such as intergrowth crystals, nanorings encircled nanoprisms, microtowers etc., have been synthesized by evaporation of zinc powder at 420 similar to 450 degrees C. The growth mechanisms of these interesting ZnO crystals were discussed, respectively. The ZnO microstructures with various morphologies may have potential applications in catalyst carrier, chemical sensors and optoelectronic microdevices.
Preparation and Photo-properties of Nanosize ZnS and Zn(en)_2S

Abstract:The precursore Zn(en)_(2)S (en=ethylenediamine) were prepared via a solvothermal process from_( )elemental sulfur and zinc using ethylenediamine as a solvent. Detailed characterizations of the infrared (IR) absorption spectrum, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG) confirmed two en coordinated with Zn~(2+) to form a complex cation. The morphological property was also characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM ) and electron diffraction analysis (ED). Phase-pure hexagonal wurtzite ZnS products were obtained by annealing the precursor in nitrogen stream at about 900 ℃. Zn(en)_(2)S showed a nanosize of about 30 nm, and ZnS of about 60 nm. The fluorescence spectra were also studied. PL results showed that Zn(en)_(2)S excited a fluorescence at 452 nm.

Abstract:The complex 3D ZnS architectures with two morphologies-sea urchin-like and flower-like structure-have been synthesized by changing the solvent under solvothermal conditions. The morphology, phase structure and optical properties of the products have been characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The results show that the as-prepared two kinds of 3D ZnS architectures show wurtzite structure and are highly crystalline. Two emission bands and a broad emission band are observed for sea urchin-like and flower-like structure, respectively, and attributed to defects and elemental S surface states luminescence.

Abstract:With the unique properties and superior performance, ZnO/ZnS core shell nanostructures have been applied in many photoelectric devices. Varied growth methods can synthesize ZnO/ZnS core shell samples, which exhibit different crystal and optical properties, and have the positive or negative effect on performance of related devices. To investigate the growth and properties, ZnO/ZnS core shell nanowires were grown through surface sulfurization. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy measurements indicated surface sulfurization degree can affect crystal quality. In addition, photoluminescence results exhibited that ZnO/ZnS heterojunction emission properties were dependent on shell layers quality. By increasing the amount of surface powder, it would improve shell layers’ crystal quality. And with optimal surface sulfurization degree, the vacancies and interstitial atoms defects can be restrained, which may improve photo-generated carriers separation efficiency.
