Abstract:We apply the subtraction method to an effective QCD-inspired model, which includes the Coulomb plus a zero-range hyperfine interactions, to define a renormalized Hamiltonian for mesons. The spectrum of the renormalized Hamiltonian agrees with the one obtained with a smeared hyperfine interaction. The masses of the low-lying pseudo scalar and vector mesons are reasonably described within the model.

Abstract:We perform a coupled-channels calculation of the masses of light mesons with the quantum numbers IJ(P=-), (I, J) = 0, 1, by including q(q)over-bar and (q(q)over-bar )(2) components in a nonrelativistic chiral quark model. The coupling between two- and four-quark configurations is realized through a P-3(0) quark-pair creation model. With the usual form of this operator, the mass shifts are large and negative, an outcome which raises serious issues of validity for the quenched quark model. Herein, therefore, we introduce some improvements of the( 3)P(0) operator in order to reduce the size of the mass shifts. By introducing two simple factors, physically well motivated, the coupling between q(q)over-bar and (q(q)over-bar)(2) components is weakened, producing mass shifts that are around 10%-20% of hadron bare masses.

The mixing strength develops fast with increasing isospin chemical potential, and the coupling constants in normal phase and in the pion superfluid phase behave very differently.

Quark-antiquark states of the lightest scalar mesons within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with flavor-dependent coupling constants

Abstract:The quark antiquark components of the U(3) lightest scalar meson nonet are investigated by considering the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with flavor-dependent coupling constants that were derived by considering (non-perturbative) gluon exchange.The strange quark effective mass ($M_s^*$) is varied such that the strangeness content of these scalar mesons can be analyzed further. The neutral states $S_0$, $S_8$ and $S_3$, are adopted as the most relevant quark-antiquark components respectively of the $\sigma(500)$, $f_0(980)$ and $A_0^0(980)$ mesons. As a result, the mass hierarchy between states $S_0$ and $S_8$, and $K^*_0(700) - A_0(980)$ mesons, can be respectively inverted and corrected for quite low values of the strange quark constituent mass. Besides that, for some particular values of $M_s^*$, the masses of $\sigma(500)$ and $f_0(980)$ can also be obtained by considering the mixing coupling constant $G_{08}$. However, the masses of all the nine mesons are not described simultaneously in a self-consistent procedure and this goes along with the need of non-quark-antiquark states to completely describe their masses. A neutral-meson mixing matrix is defined and the leading mixing angle is found by fitting a correct value of the $\sigma(500)$-$f_0(980)$ mass difference. Two different estimates for the strengths of the mixings $A_0^0 \to f_0$ and $f_0 \to A_0^0$ are proposed, leading to somewhat different behaviors. Firstly, by assuming leading transitions to intermediary flavor eigenstates and secondly by considering a dynamical evolution. Results may be in good agreement with experimental values from BESS-III depending on the value of the strange quark effective mass.

Abstract:We apply the chiral color dielectric model to low- and medium-energy scattering within the coupled πN and πΔ system. Dynamic baryon states in which quarks are confined by the scalar color-dielectric field are constructed in Fock space. Spurious motion of the center of mass is eliminated by constructing momentum eigenstates via a Peierls-Yoccoz projection. The relativistic Lippmann-Schwinger equation is solved for the complex energies of the T matrix poles, and the pole positions of the nucleon and delta are used to fix the few parameters of the model. The S- and P-wave phase shifts, the bare N and Δ masses, the renormalized πNN and πNΔ coupling constants, and the πNN and πNΔ vertex functions are predicted. nucleon and delta are used to fix the few parameters of the model. Pion Observables and the Notion of Constituent Quarks

Abstract:The Dyson Schwinger equation for the quark self energy is employed to investigate the singularity structure of the quark propagator. An effective gluon two-point function, which is free of singularities and consistent with the known asymptotic form, is used to represent the quark-quark interaction. The parameters introduced by the gluon two-point function are constrained by pion observables through the equivalence of the Dyson Schwinger and pion Bethe-Salpeter equations for on-shell pions (a result of Goldstone`s theorem). With the parameters fixed, the Dyson-Schwinger equation is used to investigate the singularity structure of the quark propagator through continuation into the complex plane. The quark appears as a broad resonance centered at the expected constituent quark mass. Comments are made on the relevance of this result to confinement and the relativistic investigation of meson spectroscopy.
Study of the pion-mass dependence of -meson properties in lattice QCD

Abstract:We collect spectra extracted in the I=l=1 ππ sector provided by various lattice QCD collaborations and study the mπ dependence of ρ -meson properties using Hamiltonian effective field theory (HEFT). In this unified analysis, the coupling constant and cutoff mass, characterizing the ρ−ππ vertex, are both found to be weakly dependent on mπ , while the mass of the bare ρ , associated with a simple quark-model state, shows a linear dependence on mπ2 . Both the lattice results and experimental data can be described well. Abstract:Meson-nucleon scatterings are investigated in an SU(3) × SU(3) σ model with scalar, vector, pseudoscalar and pseudovector couplings between mesons and baryons. From the calculation of effective coupling constants, sigma terms and s-wave scattering lengths for πN and K+N scatterings in the tree approximation, we find that the pseudoscalar coupling dominates s- and u-channel baryon Born terms, and the cancellation between the scalar and vector interactions leads to reasonable meson-nucleon scattering properties.

Abstract:A one parameter, model confined-gluon propagator is employed in a phenomenological application of the Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations to the calculation of a range of pi- and rho-meson observables. Good agreement is obtained with the data. The calculated quark propagator does not have a singularity on the real-rho(2) axis. A mass formula for the pion, involving only the vacuum, dressed quark propagator, is presented and shown to provide an accurate estimate of the mass obtained via a direct solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation.

Abstract:Resonance, bound-state, and virtual-state pole positions of the f0(500) scalar meson are computed as a continuous function of pion mass in the framework of a unitarized and analytic coupled-channel model for scalar mesons, described as dynamical quark-antiquark states. The f0(500) is modeled with both light and strange qq ̄ seeds, mixing with each other through the common S -wave ππ , KK ̄ , and ηη meson-meson decay channels. The few model parameters are fitted to experimental S -wave ππ phase shifts up to 1 GeV. In the case of the physical π± mass of 139.57 MeV, resonance poles at (460−i222) MeV and (978−i37.2) MeV are found for the f0(500) and f0(980) , respectively. Resonance, bound-state, and virtual-state pole trajectories are computed and plotted as a function of pion masses up to 500 MeV, both in the complex-energy and complex-momentum planes. Massive Meson Fluctuation in NJL Model

Abstract:Based on the self-consistent scheme beyond mean-field approximation in the large $N_c$ expansion, including current quark mass explicitly, a general scheme of SU(2) NJL model is developed. To ensure the quark self-energy expanded in the proper order of $N_c$, an approximate internal meson propagator is deduced, which is in order of $O(1/N_c)$. In our scheme, adopting the method of external momentum expansion, all the Feynman diagrams are calculated in a unified way by only expanding the quark propagator. Our numerical results show, that different from the mean field approximation in which the explicitly chiral symmetry breaking is invisible, the effect of finite pion mass can be seen clearly when beyond mean-field approximation.
Meson-cloud effects in the electromagnetic nucleon structure

Abstract:We study how the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon is influenced by a pion cloud. To this aim we make use of a constituent-quark model with instantaneous confinement and a pion that couples directly to the quarks. To derive the invariant 1- photon-exchange electron-nucleon scattering amplitude we employ a Poincaré- invariant coupled-channel formulation which is based on the point-form of relativistic quantum mechanics. We argue that the electromagnetic nucleon current extracted from this amplitude can be reexpressed in terms of pure hadronic degrees of freedom with the quark substructure of the pion and the nucleon being encoded in electromagnetic and strong vertex form factors. These are form factors of bare particles, i.e. eigenstates of the pure confinement problem. First numerical results for (bare) photon-nucleon and pion-nucleon form factors, which are the basic ingredients of the further calculation, are given for a simple 3-quark wave function of the nucleon.

Abstract:Relativistic Hartree equations for spherical nuclei have been derived from a relativistic quark model of the structure of bound nucleons which interact through the (self-consistent) exchange of scalar (σ) and vector (ω and ϱ) mesons. The coupling constants and the mass of the σ-meson are determined from the properties of symmetric nuclear matter and the rms charge radius in 40Ca. Calculated properties of static, closed-shell nuclei from 16O to 208Pb are compared with experimental data and with results of Quantum Hadrodynamics (QHD). The dependence of the results on the nucleon size and the quark mass is investigated. Several possible extensions of the model are also discussed.

Pseudoscalar mesons from a PNJL model at zero temperature

Abstract:We study pseudoscalar $\pi$, $K$ and $\eta$ meson properties, such as masses and couplings, in dense matter at zero temperature. We use a recently proposed phenomenological quark model, known as the PNJL0, which takes into account the confinement/deconfinement phase transition by means of the traced Polyakov loop ($\Phi$) which serves as an order parameter at zero temperature. We consider two different scenarios, namely, symmetric quark matter with equal chemical potentials for all the flavors, and the beta equilibrated matter. In the latter case the hadron-quark phase transition is implemented by a two model approach. For the hadron side we use a relativistic mean-field model with density dependent couplings. We show that $\Phi$ induces abrupt changes in the mesons properties with gap sizes regulated by the phenomenological gluonic sector of the model.

Abstract:The transversity form factors of the pion, involving matrix elements of bilocal tensor currents, are evaluated in chiral quark models, both in the local Nambu--Jona-Lasinio with the Pauli-Villars regularization, as well as in nonlocal models involving momentum-dependent quark mass. After suitable QCD evolution the agreement with recent lattice calculations is very good, in accordance to the fact that the spontaneously broken chiral symmetry governs the dynamics of the pion. Meson dominance of form factors with expected meson masses also works properly, conforming to the parton-hadron duality in the considered process.

Abstract:The paper studies a strong coupling constant between {\pi} meson and octet baryon using the hard-wall AdS/QCD model, which considers SU(3)f symmetry-breaking effects. Briefly mentioned are profile functions for pseudoscalar meson and baryon fields. The obtained baryon coupling constants are in agreement with those obtained in theoretical calculations.

Abstract:An extended quark mass density- and temperature- dependent model which includes the couplings between quarks and the sigma-mesons, omega-mesons is suggested. The MIT bag boundary constrain has been given up and the interactions between quarks and mesons are extended to the whole free space. We show that the present model is successful to describe both the saturation properties and the deconfinement phase transition of nuclear matter. When the effective nucleon masses vanish and the bag radius tends to infinite, the quark deconfinement takes place. The corresponding QGP phase diagram is addressed.
