Abstract:Objective To investigate the changes of CD4+ T lymphocyte counts and ratio of CD4+/CD8+ in HIV/AIDS children after ART and explore their clinical significance. Methods 19 HIV-1-infected children who had been determined in Hubei province, China, were treated with anti-retroviral therapy(ART) and were prospectively enrolled in a study of clinical demonstration. Two kinds of NRTIs (AZT and 3TC) and one kind of NNRTIs (NVP) were combined in this ART. During the period of ART, in which the longest time-span was 36 months, lymphocyte phenotype of CD4+ and CD8+ T cell were assessed every 3 to 12 months (M0, M3, M6, M9, M12, M18, M24 and M36). Results CD4+T cells significantly increased and reached the maximum of (794.92 ±531.44) / μ%el at M12, which was (6.89 ±5.50) fold more than baseline at M9, while ratio of CD4 /CD8 continued to rise at 0.62 ±0.28 until M18. CD4+ cells sustained at high level until 36 months. Conclusion CD4+T cells and ratio of CD4 /CD8 in HIV/AIDS children after ART significantly increased, which reconstructed immunological response in HIV/AIDS children.
