Effect of Amylose and Protein Content Selection on Yield and Quality Traits of Hybrid Progenies in Rice

Abstract:Influence of amylose and protein content selection in hybrid progenies of rice during breeding on quality and yield traits was found by using two crosses derived from two japonica rice varieties with significantly different amylose and protein contents.Results showed that high amylose and protein contents would result in descending peak viscosity and breakdown while in increasing setback.Low amylose contents would result in descending grain weight,1000-grain weight,grains per ear,and ears per plant.Low protein contents would result in descending ears per plant and 1000-grain weight while increasing grains per ear and grain weight.
