Abstract:Several new existence theorems on three solutions and infinitely many solutions for the following fourth-order beam equation are obtained: u(4)=f(t,u(t)),t∈[0,1];u(0)=u(1)=u″(0)=u″(1)=0, where f∈C1([0,1]×R1,R1). The Morse theory is employed to discuss this problem.

Abstract:This paper made a study on the classic problem of an infinite beam on a semi-infinite space acted by a concentrated load on the beam.One of the basic equation to determine the settlement of the semi-space below the beam was based on the well-known Boussinesq's solution of a normal load on a semi-infinite space,the other was the beam differential equation.Fourier transform technique was used to solve the equations.Because the Fourier transform was involved with an integration of function with singularity,it was found that a constant could not be determined analytically.So finite element analysis was used.Different values of the constant were tried to get a best fit to the FE results,and the undetermined coefficient was found to be C=γ+e≈3.295 5.The characteristic length of the problem was found to be a fourth root expression rather than a third root one in the current available literature.Finally an equivalent bearing length was proposed to simplify the computation of local maximum bearing compressive stess of the beam under the load.The formulae of bending moment and shear force of the beam could be used strength calculation of track beam.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a fully fourth order nonlinear boundary value problem which models the bending equilibrium of an extensible beam. Firstly we establish the existence and uniqueness of solution under some easily verified conditions. Next, for finding the approximate solution we propose an iterative method at continuous level and prove its convergence. To numerically realize the iterative method we carry out its discretization with the use of difference schemes of the fourth order of accuracy. Finally, some examples demonstrate the applicability of the theoretical results and the efficiency of the iterative method.

Abstract:In this paper, one-dimensional (1D) resonant beam equationu(tt) + u(xxxx) + u(3) = 0,with hinged boundary conditions is considered. It is proved that the above equation admits small-amplitude quasi-periodic solutions corresponding to finite dimensional invariant tori of an associated infinite dimensional dynamical system. The proof is based on infinite dimensional KAM theorem, partial normal form and scaling skills.

Abstract:Bending vibrations of thin beams and plates may be described by nonlinear Euler-Bernoulli beam equations with $x$-dependent coefficients. In this paper we investigate existence of families of time-periodic solutions to such a model using Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction and a differentiable Nash-Moser iteration scheme. The results hold for all parameters $(\epsilon,\omega)$ in a Cantor set with asymptotically full measure as $\epsilon\rightarrow0$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove some new existence results concerning nontrivial solutions to some fourth order boundary value problems u(4)(t)+ηu″(t)−ξu(t)=f(t,u(t)), 0<t<1, u(0)=u(1)=u″(0)=u″(1)=0, where f∈C1([0,1]×R,R), ξ, η∈R are parameters satisfying ξπ4+ηπ2<1. The methods used here are based on combining the minimax methods and the Morse theory.

Abstract:In this paper, with the help of Mathematica, three travelling wave solutions for a class of nonlinear evolution equations u(tt) + au(xx) + bu + cu(3) = 0 are obtained by trigonometric function method and Wu-eliminition method which include new trarelling wave solutions, bell soliton solutions and kink soliton solutions. Some equations such as Duffing equation, Klein-Gordon equation, Landau-Ginburg-Higgs equation and phi(4) equation are particular cases of the evolution equations. The method also can be applied to other nonlinear equations.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of positive solution for the fourth order Kirchhoff type problem $$\left\{\begin{array}{ll} u''''(x)-(a+b\int_0^1(u'(x))^2dx)u''(x)=\lambda f(u(x)),\ \ \ \ x\in(0,1),\\ u(0)=u(1)=u''(0)=u''(1)=0,\\ \end{array} \right. $$ where $a>0, b\geq 0$ are constants, $\lambda\in \mathbb{R}$ is a parameter. For the case $f(u)\equiv u$, we use an argument based on the linear eigenvalue problems of fourth order equations and their properties to show that there exists a unique positive solution for all $\lambda>\lambda_{1,a}$, here $\lambda_{1,a}$ is the first eigenvalue of the above problem with $b=0$; For the case $f$ is sublinear, we prove that there exists a unique positive solution for all $\lambda>0$ and no positive solution for $\lambda<0$ by using bifurcation method.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the following fractional Kirchhoff–Schrödinger–Poisson equations: {(a+b[u]s2)(−Δ)su+V(x)u+φ(x)u=−λ|u|q−2u+f(x,u)inΩ,(−Δ)tφ(x)=u2inΩ,u=0on∂Ω, where (−Δ)s is the fractional Laplacian, s,t∈(0,1) , 2t+4s>3,a>0,b>0,1 , V:Ω→R+ is continuous, Ω is a smooth bounded domain in R3 . With the help of Morse theory, we prove that the Dirichlet boundary value problem has at least a weak nontrivial solution.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the Euler-Bernoulli fourth-order boundary value problem (BVP) $w^{(4)}=f(x,w)$, $x\in \intcc{a,b}$, with specified values of $w$ and $w''$ at the end points, where the behaviour of the right-hand side $f$ is motivated by biomechanical, electromechanical, and structural applications incorporating contact forces. In particular, we consider the case when $f$ is bounded above and monotonically decreasing with respect to its second argument. First, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the BVP. We then study numerical solutions to the BVP, where we resort to spatial discretization by means of finite difference. Similar to the original continuous-space problem, the discrete problem always possesses a unique solution. In the case of a piecewise linear instance of $f$, the discrete problem is an example of the absolute value equation. We show that solutions to this absolute value equation can be obtained by means of fixed-point iterations, and that solutions to the absolute value equation converge to solutions of the continuous BVP. We also illustrate the performance of the fixed-point iterations through a numerical example.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a coupled system of beam deflection type that involves nonlinear equations with sequential Caputo fractional derivatives. Under flexible/fixed end-conditions, two main theorems on the existence and uniqueness of solutions are proved by using two fixed point theorems. Some examples are discussed to illustrate the applications of the existence and uniqueness of solution results. Another main result on the Ulam–Hyers stability of solutions for the introduced system is also discussed. Some examples of stability are discussed. New travelling wave solutions are obtained for another conformable coupled system of beam type that has a connection with the first considered system. A conclusion follows at the end.

Abstract:The existence of three solutions for nonlinear operator equations is established via index theory for linear self-adjoint operator equations, critical point reduction method, and three critical points theorems obtained by Brezis-Nirenberg, Ricceri, and Averna-Bonanno. Applying the results to second-order Hamiltonian systems satisfying generalized periodic boundary conditions or Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions and elliptic partial differential equations satisfying Dirichlet boundary value conditions, we obtain some new theorems concerning the existence of three solutions.
