Abstract:In man's conscious experience,there exists from the very beginning an idiosyncrasy of ″for-me″,i.e.″quale″,the origin of cognition.Since Computational Theory of Mind takes the objectivist view of meaning,the classic view of representation totally ignores the individual,subjective qualia of the cognitive agent.However,unlike computer,man's cognition is not merely a process of computation,but also a connection with basic intentional meanings between himself and the world.As man's thinking begins with the expression of a certain intentional meaning,and as the expression of any meaning always takes on a form of the presentation of body-movement schema,mental image or language,he will do it by means of neural activities of the internal integrated brain-and-body system.To probe into the origin of cognition,it is claimed in this paper that we should extend the notion of Computational Theory of Mind.The brain-and-body neural system does have the capacity of processing input information,and in the meantime emerging the qualia of ″for-me″ as well.Because of qualia,the agent's cognitive behaviors get their orientations and meanings.Therefore,the agent's emotion,mood and conation no longer unrelate to cognition,and indeed,they play an essential role in the processing of cognitive meaning.Based on this view,we are trying to explain the process of verbal thinking.Verbal thinking is not a single flow,but the integration of generation and expression of the meaning.The generation of thinking is a process of semantic generation in the brain of an individual,which presents the individual characteristic in the generation and process of meaning,and the generation of thinking is centered on meaning.The expression of thinking is a process of orientation intentional communication dependent on grammatical rules.Thus,it must satisfy the needs of commonality of communication and must be restricted by stricter grammatical rules while expressed in words.We have found that there are three contradictions in the process of verbal thinking: the contradiction between the individuality in generation of thinking and the commonality in the expression of thinking,the contradiction between the integrity of meaning and the linearity of signs,and the contradiction between the infinity of the generation of thinking and the finity of the grammatical rules.It is the three contradictions that constitute the motivity driving the development of man's verbal thinking.
