Abstract:Significance: Cardiovascular diseases are seen to be a primary cause of death, and their prevalence has significantly increased across the globe in the past few years. Several studies have shown that cell death is closely linked to the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, many molecular and cellular mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of the cardiac cell death mechanism. One of the factors that played a vital role in the pathogenesis of cardiac cell death mechanisms included the early growth response-1 ( Egr-1 ) factor. Recent Advances: Studies have shown that abnormal Egr-1 expression is linked to different animal and human disorders like heart failure and myocardial infarction. The biosynthesis of Egr-1 regulates its activity. Egr-1 can be triggered by many factors such as serum, cytokines, hormones, growth factors, endotoxins, mechanical injury, hypoxia, and shear stress. It also displays a pro-apoptotic effect on cardiac cells, under varying stress conditions. EGR1 mediates a broad range of biological responses to oxidative stress and cell death by combining the acute changes occurring in the cellular environment with sustained changes in gene expression. Future Directions: The primary regulatory role played by the Egr-1 -targeting DNAzymes, microRNAs, and oligonucleotide decoy strategies in cardiovascular diseases were identified to provide a reference to identify novel therapeutic targets for cardiovascular diseases.

Role of early growth response 1 in inflammation-associated lung diseases

Abstract:Early growth response 1 (EGR1), which is involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, adhesion, migration, and immune and inflammatory responses, is a zinc finger transcription factor. EGR1 is a member of the EGR family of early response genes and can be activated by external stimuli such as neurotransmitters, cytokines, hormones, endotoxins, hypoxia, and oxidative stress. EGR1 expression is upregulated during several common respiratory diseases, such as acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, pneumonia, and novel coronavirus disease 2019. Inflammatory response is the common pathophysiological basis of these common respiratory diseases. EGR1 is highly expressed early in the disease, amplifying pathological signals from the extracellular environment and driving disease progression. Thus, EGR1 may be a target for early and effective intervention in these inflammation-associated lung diseases.

Abstract:Background Extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR) plays an important role in the developmental origin of adult cardiovascular diseases. In an EUGR rat model, we reported an elevated pulmonary arterial pressure in adults and genome-wide epigenetic modifications in pulmonary vascular endothelial cells (PVECs). However, the underlying mechanism of the early nutritional insult that results in pulmonary vascular consequences later in life remains unclear. Methods A rat model was used to investigate the physiological and structural effect of EUGR on early pulmonary vasculature by evaluating right ventricular systolic pressure and pulmonary vascular density in male rats. Epigenetic modifications of the Notch1 gene in PVECs were evaluated. Results EUGR decreased pulmonary vascular density with no significant impact on right ventricular systolic pressure at 3 weeks. Decreased transcription of Notch1 was observed both at 3 and 9 weeks, in association with decreased downstream target gene, Hes-1 . Chromatin immunoprecipitation and bisulfite sequencing were performed to analyze the epigenetic modifications of the Notch1 gene promoter in PVECs. EUGR caused a significantly increased H3K27me3 in the proximal Notch1 gene promoter, and increased methylation of single CpG sites in the distal Notch1 gene promoter, both at 3 and 9 weeks. Conclusions We conclude that EUGR results in decreased pulmonary vascular growth in association with decreased Notch1 in PVECs. This may be mediated by increased CpG methylation and H3K27me3 in the Notch1 gene promoter region.

Abstract:Early growth response factor 1 (Egr-1) is a key transcriptional factor to mediate gene expression after vascular injury. To better understand the role of Egr-1 in vasculature, we globally profiled Egr-1 target genes in human endothelial cells using adenoviral gene transfer and Affymetrix oligonucleotide-based microarray technology. More than 300 genes regulated by ≥3-fold with Egr-1 overexpression were identified and, partially, confirmed by Northern and Western blotting, including genes for transcriptional regulators, signaling proteins, cell cycle regulatory proteins, growth factors, and cytokines. Among them, thymus-expressed chemokine (TECK) and IP-30 were dramatically induced by Egr-1, but TNFα-related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL) was significantly repressed by Egr-1, suggesting that Egr-1 is a key mediator of inflammation and apoptosis in vascular cells. These data provide novel Egr-1 target genes and contribute to the understanding of the role of Egr-1 in vasculature.

Abstract:To investigate the differential expression of microRNA-150-5p (miR-150-5p) and early growth response 1 (EGR1) in myocardial fibrosis (MF) cells, and determine the effect between miR-150-5p and EGR1 on MF. Human MF cells were generated via Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi) infection, a mouse model of MF was generated via angiotensin II. The expression levels of miR-150-5p and EGR1 were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot assay. The correlation between miR-150-5p and EGR1 was confirmed by a luciferase reporter assay. The viability, proliferation, and apoptotic rate were detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), colony-formation and flow cytometry assays. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and Masson staining visualized the degree of MF. Echocardiography was performed to obtain the levels of left ventricle fractional shortening (LVFS) and left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF), computer algorithms and a videographics program were used to obtain the levels of left ventricular systolic pressure (LVSP), left ventricular end diastolic pressure (LVEDP) and +/- left ventricular dp/dt maximum (LV dp/dtmax). We found that the expression of miR-150-5p in MF cells was lower than normal cardiomyocytes, while the expression level of EGR1 in MF cells were higher than normal cardiomyocytes. Cell experiments demonstrated that EGR1 and miR-150-5p could influence the development of MF, and the expression of EGR1 in cardiomyocytes was regulated by miR-150-5p directly. Lastly, we confirmed that sh-Egr1 would decrease the severity of MF, while miR-150-5p antagomir could aggravate MF. Our results illustrate the mechanism of MF development, and provide a potential target for MF treatment.

Abstract:Fibrosis is a deregulated and ultimately defective form of tissue repair that underlies a large number of chronic human diseases, as well as obesity and aging. The pathogenesis of fibrosis involves multiple cell types and extracellular signals, of which transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) is pre-eminent. The prevalence of fibrosis is rising worldwide, and to date no agents has shown clinical efficacy in the attenuating or reversing the process. Recent studies implicate the immediate early response transcription factor Egr-1 in the pathogenesis of fibrosis. Egr-1 couples acute changes in the cellular environment to sustained alterations in gene expression, and mediates a broad spectrum of biological responses to injury and stress. In contrast to other ligand-activated transcription factors such as NF-kappa B, c-jun and Smad2/3 that undergo post-translational modification such as phosphorylation and nuclear translocation, Egr-1 activity is regulated via its biosynthesis. Aberrant Egr-1 expression or activity is implicated in cancer, inflammation, atherosclerosis, and ischemic injury and recent studies now indicate an important role for Egr-1 in TGF-beta-dependent profibrotic responses. Fibrosis in various animal models and human diseases such as scleroderma (SSc) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is accompanied by aberrant Egr-1 expression. Moreover Egr-1 appears to be required for physiologic and pathological connective tissue remodeling, and Egr-1-null mice are protected from fibrosis. As a novel profibrotic mediator, Egr-1 thus appears to be a promising potential target for the development of anti-fibrotic therapies. Published by Elsevier B.V.
Essential Roles for Early Growth Response Transcription Factor Egr-1 in Tissue Fibrosis and Wound Healing

Abstract:The early growth response gene (Egr-1) codes for a zinc finger transcription factor that has important roles in the regulation of cell growth, differentiation, and survival. Aberrant Egr-1 expression is implicated in carcinogenesis, inflammation, atherosclerosis, and ischemic injury. We reported previously that normal fibroblasts stimulated by transforming growth factor-ss showed rapid and transient induction of Egr-1. Moreover, we observed that tissue expression of Egr-1 was elevated in patients with scleroderma, which suggests that Egr-1 may be involved in tissue repair and fibrosis. Here, we investigated matrix remodeling and wound healing in mice harboring gain of function or loss of function mutations of Egr-1. Using the model of bleomycin-induced scleroderma, we found that the early influx of inflammatory cells into the skin and lungs, and the subsequent development of fibrosis in these organs, were markedly attenuated in Egr-1 null mice. Furthermore, full-thickness incisional skin wound healing was impaired, and skin fibroblasts lacking Egr-1 showed reduced migration and myofibroblast transdifferentiation in vitro. In contrast, transgenic mice with fibroblast-specific Egr-1 overexpression showed exuberant tissue repair, with enhanced collagen accumulation and increased tensile strength of incisional wounds. Together, these results point to the fundamental role that Egr-1 plays in the regulation of transforming growth factor-ss-dependent physiological and pathological matrix remodeling.

Abstract:The liver is an essential organ for nutrient and drug metabolism - possessing the remarkable ability to sense environmental and metabolic stimuli and provide an optimally adaptive response. Early growth response 1 (Egr1), an immediate early transcriptional factor which acts as a coordinator of the complex response to stress, is induced during liver injury and controls the expression of a wide range of genes involved in metabolism, cell proliferation, and role of Egr1 in liver injury and repair, deficiency of Egr1 delays liver regeneration process. The known upstream regulators of Egr1 include, but are not limited to, growth factors (e.g. transforming growth factor β1, platelet-derived growth factor, epidermal growth factor, hepatocyte growth factor), nuclear receptors (e.g. hepatocyte nuclear factor 4α, small heterodimer partner, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ), and other transcription factors (e.g. Sp1, E2F transcription factor 1). Research efforts using various animal models such as fatty liver, liver injury, and liver fibrosis contribute greatly to the elucidation of Egr1 function in the liver. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents the second leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide due to the heterogeneity and the late stage at which cancer is generally diagnosed. Recent studies highlight the involvement of Egr1 in HCC development. The purpose of this review is to summarize current studies pertaining to the role of Egr1 in liver metabolism and liver diseases including liver cancer.

Early Growth Response Factor-1 Is a Critical Transcriptional Mediator of Peroxisome Proliferator-activated Receptor-γ1 Gene Expression in Human Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells

Abstract:To explore the molecular mechanisms of PPARgamma1 gene expression in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC), we hypothesized that early growth-response factor-1 (Egr-1) might be a transcriptional mediator of the growth factor- and cytokine-induced PPARgamma1 gene expression since a putative Egr-1 binding element was found in the human PPARgamma1 promoter. In this study, we document that overexpression of Egr-1 activates the human PPARgamma1 promoter in both VSMC and HepG2 cells. Using Northern blot analysis, we observed that growth factors and cytokines such as PDGF, bFGF, Ang 11, TNFalpha, and IL-1beta induce Egr-1 expression prior to PPARgamma1 up-regulation in human VSMC. In addition, overexpression of a constitutively active form of Egr-1 by adenoviral gene transfer in VSMC dramatically induced PPARgamma1 gene expression by 6-8-fold, and overexpression of NAB2, a potent negative feedback regulator of Egr-1, abrogated the growth factor- and cytokine-induced PPARgamma1 expression in VSMC. Furthermore, we demonstrate with gel mobility shift and transient transfection assays that the putative Egr-1 element in the human PPARgamma1 promoter specifically binds Egr-1 protein and becomes trans-activated by Egr-1. Taken together, our data demonstrate for the first time that Egr-1 is necessary and sufficient to activate human PPARgamma1 gene expression in VSMC.

Abstract:Early growth response factor 1 (EGR1) is a transcription factor that is mainly involved in the processes of tissue injury, immune responses, and fibrosis. Recent studies have shown that EGR1 is closely related to the initiation and progression of cancer and may participate in tumor cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis and in tumor angiogenesis. Nonetheless, the specific mechanism whereby EGR1 modulates these processes remains to be elucidated. This review article summarizes possible mechanisms of action of EGR1 in tumorigenesis and tumor progression and may serve as a reference for clinical efficacy predictions and for the discovery of new therapeutic targets.
Egr-1: new conductor for the tissue repair orchestra directs harmony (regeneration) or cacophony (fibrosis)

Abstract:Fibroblasts and myofibroblasts are the key effector cells executing physiological tissue repair leading to regeneration on the one hand, and pathological fibrogenesis leading to chronic fibrosing conditions on the other. Recent studies identify the multifunctional transcription factor early growth response-1(Egr-1) as an important mediator of fibroblast activation triggered by diverse stimuli. Egr-1 has potent stimulatory effects on fibrotic gene expression, and aberrant Egr-1 expression or function is associated with animal models of fibrosis and human fibrotic disorders, including emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension and systemic sclerosis. Pharmacological suppression or genetic targeting of Egr-1 blocks fibrotic responses in vitro and ameliorates experimental fibrosis in the skin and lung. In contrast, Egr-1 appears to act as a negative regulator of hepatic fibrosis in mouse models, suggesting a context-dependent role in fibrosis. The Egr-1-binding protein Nab2 is an endogenous inhibitor of Egr-1-mediated signalling and abrogates the stimulation of fibrotic responses induced by transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ). Moreover, mice deficient in Nab2 show excessive collagen accumulation in the skin. These observations highlight a previously unsuspected fundamental physiological function for the Egr-1-Nab2 signalling axis in regulating fibrogenesis, and suggest that Egr-1 may be a potential novel therapeutic target in human diseases complicated by fibrosis. This review summarizes recent advances in understanding the regulation and complex functional role of Egr-1 and its related proteins and inhibitors in pathological fibrosis.
EGR1 Promotes Proliferation in Prostatic Hyperplasia Epithelial BPH-1 Cells

Abstract:Early growth response gene 1(EGR1)is a member of a zinc-nger transcription factor family.EGR1 can be induced by several factors and it regulates more than 30 target genes.As an oncogene,EGR1 expression increases with the degree of malignancy in prostate cancer.Compared to the numerous studies of EGR1 in prostate cancer,the research in benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) is not enough while the associated mechanisms and functions are still unclear.In this study,we found that EGR1 was highly expressed in both rat and human BPH tissues.EGR1 plays important roles in the BPH progression.We constructed the EGR1 expression vector and the EGR1 stably transfected BPH-1 cell lines.The cell proliferation was promoted by over-expressed EGR1.Furthermore,EGR1 siRNA inhibited BPH-1 cell proliferation.Estrogen plays important roles in BPH progression.In BPH-1 cell lines,estradiol(E2) promoted EGR1 protein nuclear transfer which activated EGR1's transcriptional activity.Insulin-like growth factor 2(IGF2) was up-regulated in EGR1 stably transfected BPH-1 cell lines.Meanwhile,E2 promoted IGF2 expression and the up-regulation could be abolished by knocking down EGR1 which means E2 up-regulates IGF2 via EGR1.The regulation of EGR1 and its target gene may be critical for E2 to exert its influence on BPH progression.This study adds new insights into the function of E2 and EGR1 in BPH.

Abstract:Background The early growth response gene-1(Egr-1) is considered to be a triggering mechanism that maintains long term potentiation and activates neurogenesis. The expression of Egr-1 protein is closely associated with the consolidation, reconsolidation and extinction of long term memory. Objective Providing potential research targets for studying the mechanism and treatment of postoperative cognitive dysfunction. Content We review the structure, expression pattern of Egr-1 protein and its roles in learning and memory. Trend Egr-1 plays different roles in different phases of memory, but the specific signaling pathways and their relationship with postoperative cognitive dysfunction deserve further clarification.
The Effect of Egr1 on C2C12 Differentiation

Abstract:Egr1 (early growth response protein 1),as a transcription factor,plays important roles in many biological processes,such as cell proliferation,differentiation,apoptosis and so on.However,its effect on C2C 12 cells differentiation remains unclear.Western blot and immunofluorescence assays were used to determine the protein level and localization of Egr1 in C2C12 during its differentiation.To explore its effect on C2C12 differentiation,Egrl expression was activated and inhibited using the CRISPR/Cas9 technique.Egr1 protein level reached the peak on the 5th day of differentiation and then gradually decreased during C2C 12 differentiation.Egr1 localized in the cytoplasm and nucleus of C2C12 cells.Egr1 level gradually increased when C2C12 induced to differentiation.During the C2C 12 differentiation,myotube fusion rate,myogenin (MYOG) and myosin heavy chain (MYH2) levels increased or decreased significantly when Egr1 were up-regulated or down-regulated,respectively.In summary,the results showed that Egr1 promotes C2C12 differentiation in vitro.

Abstract:Early growth response 2 (Egr2) is a zinc-finger transcription factor that acts as an important modulator of a variety of physiological processes, such as cell differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis. Here we showed that Egr2 was downregulated by bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling pathways during the commitment of C3H10T1/2 stem cells to adipocyte lineage. Overexpression of Egr2 completely prevented BMP4-induced adipocyte lineage commitment of C3H10T1/2 stem cells, while simultaneously stimulating early smooth muscle-like differentiation. We also demonstrated that Egr2-induced early smooth muscle-like differentiation is transforming growth factor β1-independent. Egr2 can activate the transcription of early smooth muscle cell specific genes smooth muscle protein 22α and calponin 1. Together, the results indicated a novel role for Egr2 in repressing adipocyte lineage commitment and promoting early smooth muscle-like cell differentiation.
Early Growth Response Factor 3 May Regulate Coronary Atherosclerosis Through the NF-kB K B Signaling Pathway and VEGF Expression

Abstract:Aim: The present study was conducted to measure the expression of early growth response factor 3 (Egr3), inflammatory cytokines (IL-1 beta, IL-6), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and NF-kappa B in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) to investigate the relationships of these molecules and Egr3 gene expression. Methods: We recruited 132 CAD patients and 63 healthy individuals. The expression levels of Egr3, VEGF, p50 and p65 were measured by reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction and the levels of Egr3, IL-1 beta and IL-6 in patients serum and in human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISAs) in CAD patients. HCAECs were treated with ox-LDL to establish an in vitro atherosclerosis model. An oil red O staining assay was used to assess the lipid droplet formation. A colloidal external lumen formed by Matrigel was used to test the migration of HCAECs. The expression of Egr3, VEGF and NF-kappa B was determined by Western blotting. Results: The levels of serum Egr3 and IL-6 in the severe stenosis group were greater than those in the mild stenosis group and controls (p < 0.05). The level of serum IL-1 beta in the severe stenosis group was greater than that in the control group (p < 0.05). Moreover, Egr3 expression was positively associated with IL-6 levels (r = 0.55, p < 0.001), IL-1 beta levels (r = 0.21, p = 0.004) and the Gensini score (r = 0.20, p = 0.02). We also found that Egr3 expression was significantly greater in CAD patients than that in controls. And its expression was highest in the mild patients. The expression of VEGF, P50 and P65 was also greater in CAD patients. In the in vitro experiment, we found that the inhibition of Egr3 expression significantly reduced the expression levels of p50, p65, IL-6 and CRP. Moreover, the inhibition of Egr3 expression significantly reduced the lipid droplet formation and decreased capability of lumen formation. Conclusions: In the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, Egr3 gene expression may induce the expression of inflammatory factors and lipid droplet formation and lumen formation, which could promote the atherosclerosis development.
Early Growth Response Gene-1 Deficiency Interrupts TGFβ1 Signaling Activation and Aggravates Neurodegeneration in Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis Mice

Abstract:Early growth response protein 1 (Egr-1) triggers the transcription of many genes involved in cell growth, differentiation, synaptic plasticity, and neurogenesis. However, its mechanism in neuronal survival and degeneration is still poorly understood. This study demonstrated that Egr-1 was down-regulated at mRNA and protein levels in the central nervous system (CNS) of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mice. Egr-1 knockout exacerbated EAE progression in mice, as shown by increased disease severity and incidence; it also aggravated neuronal apoptosis, which was associated with weakened activation of the BDNF/TGFβ 1/MAPK/Akt signaling pathways in the CNS of EAE mice. Consistently, Egr-1 siRNA promoted apoptosis but mitigated the activation of BDNF/TGFβ 1/MAPK/Akt signaling in SH-SY5Y cells. Our results revealed that Egr-1 is a crucial regulator of neuronal survival in EAE by regulating TGFβ 1-mediated signaling activation, implicating the important role of Egr-1 in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis as a potential novel therapy target.

Abstract:Hypoxia induces complex adaptive responses. In this report, induction of early growth response-1 (Egr-1) transcripts in lungs of mice subjected to hypoxia is shown to be dose and time dependent. Within 30 min of hypoxia, Egr-1 transcripts were approximately 20-fold elevated in 6% oxygen, approximately 5.2-fold increased by 10% oxygen, and returned to the normoxic baseline by 12% oxygen. Time course studies up to 48 h showed a biphasic profile with an initial steep rise in Egr-1 transcripts after 0.5 h of hypoxia and a second elevation beginning after 20-24 h. Hypoxic induction of Egr-1 was paralleled by enhanced expression of the downstream target gene tissue factor. Egr-1 and tissue factor antigen were visualized in bronchial and vascular smooth muscle and in alveolar macrophages. Egr-1 has the capacity to modulate expression of genes involved in the remodeling of the extracellular matrix and properties of smooth muscle, thus possibly contributing to the pulmonary response to chronic hypoxia.
The Inflammatory Injury Role of Early Growth Response Factor in Lung Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rat Lung Transplant Model

Abstract:Objective To investigate the inflammatory injury role of early growth response factor (EGR-1) in lung ischemia-reperfusion injury in rat lung transplant model.Methods Rat left lung transplant models were used in our study,and divided into following groups:1 h after reperfusion,2 h after reperfusion and 4 h after reperfusion.The nomal lung tissure served as a control group.Quantitative real-time RT-PCR was used to detect the expression of EGR-1 and IL-1β mRNA in lung tissures.Myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity,bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) neutrophil count and the wetto-dry (W/D) lung weight ratio were recorded in every group.Results The expression of EGR-1 and IL-1β13 mRNA was obviously increased in groups of 1 h,2 h and 4 h after reperfusion,and significantly higher than in nonlal control group(P＜0.05).The values of MPO activity,BAL neutrophil count and the W/D lung weight ratio were increased obviously in groups of 1 h,2 h and 4 h after reperfusion as compared with those in the normal control group and there was significant difference between these 4 groups (P＜0.05).The expression of EGR-1 mRNA was significantly correlated with the IL-1β mRNA expression in every group (r=0.921,P＜0.01).The EGR-1 mRNA expression had a strong correlation with BAL neutrophil count (r=0.876,P＜0.01).Conclusion EGR-1 is induced by lung fissure ischemia,and may play an important role in the inflammatory injury mediated by IL-1β in lung ischemia-reperfusion injury in the rat lung transplant model.
Early Growth Response-1 Suppresses Human Fibrosarcoma Cell Invasion and Angiogenesis.

Abstract:The development of malignant tumors is the result of sequential genetic and epigenetic lesions that lead to alterations in a number of gene expressions, which are primarily controlled by transcription factors. A growing body of evidence suggests that early growth response-1 (Egr-1), a transcription factor, may function as a tumor suppressor. Here, the possible role of Egr-1 in the suppression of tumor cell invasion, angiogenesis and metastasis was investigated. Expression of Egr-1 significantly reduced the invasion of human fibrosarcoma cells through matrigel. Mouse embryonic fibroblasts, from Egr-1 knockout mice, also showed increased invasion through matrigel compared with MEFs from wild-type mice. Conditioned medium from Egr-1-transfected cells compared with control transfected cells also reduced proliferation, invasion through matrigel and tube formation of human umbilical cord vein endothelial cells and human microvascular endothelial cells. In addition, Egr-1-transfected cells inhibited vessel formation in mouse skin plug assays. To study the possible molecular mechanisms responsible for this function, the expression of multiple cytokines, chemokines, growth factors and angiogenic factors were examined by using human cytokine antibody array technology it was observed that tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) expression was up-regulated in Egr-1-transfected cells. Addition of Egr-1-transfected cell conditioned medium and TIMP-2 recombinant protein suppressed fibrosarcoma cell invasion. In summary, it was shown that Egr-1 may have novel functions in the suppression of tumor cell invasion and angiogenesis, while TIMP-2 may be involved in the suppression of tumor cell invasion and angiogenesis in Egr-1-transfected cells.
