Abstract:AIM: To investigate the expressions of Cd44v6, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), E-cadherin, matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2), MMP-9, β-Catenin in stage Ⅰ non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and their prognostic values. METHODS: The expressions of the six proteins were evaluated by immunohistochemistry with tissue chip in paraffin-embedded specimens from 80 consecutive NSCLC patients. Clinicopathological data were employed to investigate the expression rules and their prognostic values. RESULTS: The 5-year survival rate of these 80 stage Ⅰ NSCLC patients was 68%. Among the 6 proteins, only MMP2 was of prognostic value in Log-rank test(P=0.046). In Cox multivariate analysis which employed the six biomarkers, including Cd44v6, CEA, E-cadherin, MMP-2, MMP-9, β-Catenin, age, sex, and pathological sub-type, MMP-2 remained the only independent prognostic factor(P=0.003). CONCLUSION: Among the six proteins related to cancer invasion and metastasis, MMP-2 is the only biomarker which has prognostic value in stage Ⅰ NSCLC.
