Abstract:The homogeneous balance method is extended to seek for Bäcklund transformation, Lax pairs, non-local symmetries of variable coefficient KdV equation (VCKdVE). Then based on the Bäcklund transformation and general solutions of a fourth-order nonlinear ordinary differential equation, five kinds of exact solutions of VCKdVE are derived. The soliton-like solution also belongs to these solutions.

Abstract:In this paper an algebraic method is devised to uniformly construct a series of exact solutions for general nonlinear equations. Compared with the existing tanh methods and Jacobi function method, the proposed method gives more general exact solutions without much extra effort. More importantly, the method provides a guideline for the classification of the solutions based on the given parameters. For illustration, we apply the proposed method to revisit a complex coupled KdV system and successfully construct a series of new exact solutions including the soliton solutions and elliptic doubly periodic solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we apply the modified variational iteration method to a generalized Hirota-Satsuma coupled Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. The numerical solutions of the initial value problem of the generalized Hirota-Satsuma coupled KdV equation are provided. Numerical results are given to show the efficiency of the modified variational iteration method.

Abstract:This paper deals with two generalized KdV equations which possess three high order nonlinear terms. A technique based on the reduction of order for solving differential equations and variable transformations is employed to find the bell type, kink type, solitary patterns, peakons and periodic solutions for the equations under several circumstances. It is shown that the exponents of the nonlinear terms, the wave speed of the solutions and the coefficients of the derivatives of the equations play a major role in the qualitative change of the physical structures of the solutions. Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:The Korteweg-de Vries–Calogero–Bogoyavlenskii–Schiff (KdV-CBS) equation is often used in dealing with long-wave propagation interactions, and is widely used in mathematics, physics, and engineering. This paper proposes a new extended (3+1)-dimensional KdV-CBS equation, and it's never been studied. Additionally, we verify the integrability of the equation based on the Painlevé test. By employing Hirota's method, a bilinear auto-Bäcklund transformation, the multiple-soliton solutions, and the soliton molecules of the equation are derived. New exact solutions of the equation are constructed utilizing the power series expansion method and -expansion method. These exact solutions are also presented graphically. Finally, the conservation laws of the equation are obtained. Our results are helpful for understanding nonlinear wave phenomena.

Abstract:Exact absorbing boundary conditions for a linearized KdV equation are derived in this paper. Applying these boundary conditions at artificial boundary points yields an initial‐boundary value problem defined only on a finite interval. A dual‐Petrov‐Galerkin scheme is proposed for numerical approximation. Fast evaluation method is developed to deal with convolutions involved in the exact absorbing boundary conditions. Abstract:Based on the idea of the homogeneous balance (HB) method, we study the Bäcklund transformation and similarity reductions of general variable coefficient KdV equation. It is found that the corresponding results are coincide with those by Weiss–Tabor–Carnevale (WTC) method and Clarkson–Kruskal (CK) method, respectively. The close connections among the HB, WTC and CK methods are exposured in theory. In the meantime, a Lax pair, a symmetry, two conservation laws and a analytic solution for the general variable coefficient KdV equation are given.

Abstract:In this paper, a class of (3+1)-dimensional generalized Korteweg-de Vries-Zakharov-Kuznetsov (KdV-ZK) equation is studied by utilizing the bifurcation theory of the planar dynamical systems and the Fan sub-function method. This model can be used to explain the effects of magnetic fields on weakly nonlinear ion-acoustic waves investigated in plasma fields composed of cold and hot electrons. Under the different parameter conditions, the phase portraits and bifurcations are derived, and new exact solutions including soliton, periodic, kink and breaking wave solutions for the model are constructed. Moreover, some exact solutions, which contain soliton, kink, trigonometric function, hyperbolic function, Jacobi elliptic function solutions, are derived via the improved Fan sub-function method. The types of solutions obtained completely correspond to the types of the orbits acquired above, which verifies the validity of the method. Finally, the physical structures of some exact solutions are analyzed in graphical forms.

Abstract:This paper considers interfacial waves propagating along the interface between a two-dimensional two-fluid with a flat bottom and a rigid upper boundary. There is a light fluid layer overlying a heavier one in the system, and a small density difference exists between the two layers. It just focuses on the weakly non-linear small amplitude waves by introducing two small independent parameters: the nonlinearity ratio epsilon, represented by the ratio of amplitude to depth, and the dispersion ratio mu, represented by the square of the ratio of depth to wave length, which quantify the relative importance of nonlinearity and dispersion. It derives an extended KdV equation of the interfacial waves using the method adopted by Dullin et al in the study of the surface waves when considering the order up to O(mu(2)). As expected, the equation derived from the present work includes, as special cases, those obtained by Dullin et al for surface waves when the surface tension is neglected. The equation derived using an alternative method here is the same as the equation presented by Choi and Camassa. Also it solves the equation by borrowing the method presented by Marchant used for surface waves, and obtains its asymptotic solitary wave solutions when the weakly nonlinear and weakly dispersive terms are balanced in the extended KdV equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish an estimate for the solutions of small-divisor equation of higher order with large variable coefficient. Then by formulating an infinite-dimensional KAM theorem which allows for multiple normal frequencies and unbounded perturbations, we prove that there are many periodic solutions for the coupled KdV equation subject to small Hamiltonian perturbations.

The investigation reveals innovative and explicit solutions, providing insight into the dynamics of the related physical processes. This paper provides a comprehensive examination of these solutions, emphasizing their distinct features and depictions using Jacobi elliptic functions. These findings are especially advantageous for specialists in the fields of nonlinear science and mathematical physics, providing significant insights into the behavior and development of nonlinear waves in various physical situations. This work also contributes to our knowledge of the improved mKdV equation and shows that the Jacobi elliptic function expansion method is a useful tool for solving complex nonlinear situations. The study is enhanced with graphical illustrations of various solutions, which further enhance its analytical complexity.

Abstract:The homogeneous balance method is extended to search for Bäcklund transformation and similarity reduction of nonlinear partial differential equations. It is shown that there exist close connections among the homogeneous balance method, WTC method and CK direct reduction method. The variant Boussinesq equations are discussed as an illustrative example. Their Bäcklund transformation, linearization transformation and three types of similarity reductions are obtained. In the meantime, some new travelling wave solutions also are found.
