Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Abstract:In this paper we will use the Fourier expansions to generalize Hale′s alternative results for the existence of periodic solutions of linear retarded functional differential equations to neutral equations. Using some a priori estimation and the Leray-Schauder degree theory, we will obtain some existence theorems of periodic solutions for a class of quasilinear neutral equations. The results also generalize the works of Hatvani and Krisztin on retarded equations.

Abstract:For any subcritical index of regularity s > 3/2, we prove the almost global well posedness for the 2-dimensional semilinear wave equation with the cubic nonlinearity in the derivatives, when the initial data are small in the Sobolev space H s × H s−1 with certain angular regularity. The lifespan is known to be sharp in general. The main new ingredient in the proof is an endpoint version of the generalized Strichartz estimates in the space . In the last section, we also consider the general semilinear wave equations with the spatial dimension n ≥ 2 and the order of nonlinearity p ≥ 3.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to analyse the local existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for a Hadamard-type fractional differential equation with nonlocal boundary conditions on an infinite interval. The technique used to arrive our results depends on two fixed point theorems of a sum operator in partial ordering Banach spaces. The local existence and uniqueness of positive solution is given, and we can make iterative sequences to approximate the unique positive solution. For the illustration of the main results, we list two concrete examples in the last section.

Abstract:In this work we revisit the existence, uniqueness and exponential decay of some classes of mild solutions which are almost periodic (AP-), asymptotically almost periodic (AAP-) and pseudo almost periodic (PAP-) of the scalar Linéard equation by employing the notion of Green function and Massera-type principle. First, by changing variable we convert this equation to a system of first order differential equations. Then, we transform the problem into a framework of an abstract parabolic evolution equation which associates with an evolution family equipped an exponential dichtonomy and the corresponding Green function is exponentially almost periodic. After that, we prove a Massera-type principle that the corresponding linear equation has a uniqueness AP-, AAP- and PAP- mild solution if the right hand side and the coefficient functions are AP-, AAP- and PAP- functions, respectively. The well-posedness of semilinear equation is proved by using fixed point arguments and the exponential decay of mild solutions are obtained by using Gronwall's inequality. Although our work revisits some previous works on well-posedness of the Linéard equation on these type solutions but provide a difference view by using Green function and go farther on the aspects of asymptotic behaviour of solutions and the construction of abstract theory. Our abstract results can be also applied to other parabolic evolution equations.

Abstract:We investigate the monotonicity of the minimal period of the periodic solutions of some quasilinear differential equations involving the $p$-Laplace operator. The monotonicity is obtained as a function of a Hamiltonian energy in two cases. We first extend to the case $p\ge2$ classical results for $p=2$ due to Chow and Wang, and Chicone. Then we consider a differential equation associated with a fundamental interpolation inequality in Sobolev spaces. In that case, we generalize to $p\ge2$ a recent result due to Benguria, Depassier and~Loss when $p=2$.

Abstract:In this paper we study the existence, multiplicity and concentration behaviour of ground states for a class of quasilinear Schrodinger equations with critical growth. By using a change of variables, the quasilinear equations are reduced to a semilinear one, whose associated functionals are well defined in the usual Sobolev space and satisfy the geometric conditions of the mountain pass theorem. We relate the number of positive solutions with the topology of the set where the potential attains its minimum value. The proofs are based on the Ljusternik-Schnirelmann theory and variational methods.

Abstract:A hierarchy of nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations is derived by using the Lenard gradients and the zero-curvature equation. According to the Lax matrix of the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations, we introduce a hyperelliptic Riemann surface of genus n , from which Dubrovin-type equations, meromorphic function, and Baker–Akhiezer function are established. By the theory of algebraic curves, the corresponding flows are straightened by resorting to the Abel–Jacobi coordinates. Finally, we obtain the explicit Riemann theta function representations of the Baker–Akhiezer function, specifically, that of solutions for the hierarchy of nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations in regard to the asymptotic properties of the Baker–Akhiezer function.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the existence of periodic solutions for a class of semilinear second-order differential equations. The difficulty of traditional methods lies in a mass of detailed estimates. By applying the viscosity solutions method and the classical upper-lower solutions method, as well as the Leray-Schauder fixed point principle, we establish the existence of periodic solutions to the equation under some weaker conditions. Our result improves and generalizes many results on the ropes mechanics equations in the previous literature.

Abstract:In this paper, by variational methods, we study the existence and nonexistence of positive solutions for a class of generalized quasilinear Schrödinger equations involving a Kirchhoff-type perturbation with critical Sobolev exponent. In particular, the first result is based on the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. Moreover, the second results are established via the Pohožaev identity. Finally, the last results are not based on the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition and we use generalized conditions to prove the results.

Abstract:The existence of three solutions for nonlinear operator equations is established via index theory for linear self-adjoint operator equations, critical point reduction method, and three critical points theorems obtained by Brezis-Nirenberg, Ricceri, and Averna-Bonanno. Applying the results to second-order Hamiltonian systems satisfying generalized periodic boundary conditions or Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions and elliptic partial differential equations satisfying Dirichlet boundary value conditions, we obtain some new theorems concerning the existence of three solutions.
