Abstract:This paper considers the problem of exact controllability of linear control systems with compact semigroup in non-reflexive state spaces and control spaces. The weak convergence of bounded sequence of control functions with respect to the subspace of the dual space is studied and a lemma for the weak convergence is proved. Based on the lemma and the strong separation theorem, a necessary and sufficient condition for exact controllability of compact semigroups with respect to the space consisting all essentially bounded measurable functions is obtained. An example of heat equation is presented to illustrate the utility of the result. Some related problems remaining for further study are addressed.

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the two-point boundary value problems for linear wave equation defined on a circle and prove that the equation possesses the exact controllability. Abstract:This paper deals with the local exact boundary controllability for dynamics governed by nonlinear wave equations, subject to Dirichlet, Neumann, or any other kind of boundary controls which result in well- posedness of the corresponding initial- boundary value problem. A constructive method is developed. The local exact boundary controllability for semilinear wave equations is constructed in the case of both three ( odd) and two ( even) space dimensions, and the boundary control is time optimal when the space dimension is three ( odd). Especially, the local exact boundary controllability is established for quasi- linear wave equations in several space dimensions by using the constructive method.

Abstract:The authors prove the global exact boundary controllability for the cubic semi-linear wave equation in three space dimensions, subject to Dirichlet, Neumann, or any other kind of boundary controls which result in the well-posedness of the corresponding initial-boundary value problem. The exponential decay of energy is first established for the cubic semi-linear wave equation with some boundary condition by the multiplier method, which reduces the global exact boundary controllability problem to a local one. The proof is carried out in line with [2, 15]. Then a constructive method that has been developed in [13] is used to study the local problem. Especially when the region is star-complemented, it is obtained that the control function only need to be applied on a relatively open subset of the boundary. For the cubic Klein-Gordon equation, similar results of the global exact boundary controllability are proved by such an idea.

Abstract:Consider the wave equation with distributed controls supported on a subdomain, called control subdomain, which is allowed to be variant in time. For any prescribed time duration, the authors work out a scheme for changing the control subdomain such that the wave equation is exactly controllable on this time duration, where the control subdomain at any time is allowed to have arbitrarily small measure and relatively simple shape.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the null controllability of nonlinear wave systems. Firstly, by combing Gerlerkin method and a fixed point theorem, we give the null controllability for semi-linear wave equation with nonlinear function dependents on velocities under the geometric control condition. Secondly, based on a new iterative method, we prove the null controllability for a class of quasi-linear wave system constructively. Finally, we give a control result for a class of fully nonlinear wave system as application.

Abstract:When the rotatory inertia is taken into account, vibrations of a linear plate can be described by the Kirchhoff plate equation. Consider this equation with locally distributed control forces and some boundary condition which is the simply supported boundary condition for a rectangular plate. In this paper, the authors establish exact controllability of the system in terms of the equivalence to exact internal controllability of the wave equation, by means of a frequency domain characterization of exact controllability introduced recently in [11].

In this paper, we obtain the exact controllability for a refined stochastic wave equation with three controls by establishing a novel Carleman estimate for a backward hyperbolic-like operator. Compared with the known result [Q. Lü and X Zhang, Mathematical Control Theory for Stochastic Partial Differential Equations, Springer, Cham, Switzerland, 2021], the novelty of this paper is twofold: (1) Our model contains the effects in the drift terms when we put controls directly in the diffusion terms, which is more sensible for practical applications; (2) We provide an explicit description of the waiting time which is sharp in the case of dimension one and is independent of the coefficents of lower terms.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to a study of the null controllability problems for one-dimensional linear degenerate wave equations through a boundary controller. First, the well-posedness of linear degenerate wave equations is discussed. Then the null controllability of some degenerate wave equations is established, when a control acts on the non-degenerate boundary. Different from the known controllability results in the case that a control acts on the degenerate boundary, any initial value in state space is controllable in this case. Also, an explicit expression for the controllability time is given. Furthermore, a counterexample on the controllability is given for some other degenerate wave equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the exact boundary controllability for cubic focusing semilinear wave equations in 1 <= n <= 3 space dimensions. When the initial data and the final data are in the so-called potential well, we find that the sufficient condition for the global existence is also sufficient to ensure the exact boundary controllability of the problem. Moreover, in one space dimension, the control time can be that of the linear wave equation.

Abstract:This article focuses on the exact null controllability of a one-dimensional wave equation in noncylindrical domains. Both the fixed endpoint and the moving endpoint are Neumann-type boundary conditions. The control is put on the moving endpoint. When the speed of the moving endpoint is less than the characteristic speed, we can obtain the exact null controllability of this equation by using the Hilbert uniqueness method. In addition, we get a sharper estimate on controllability time that depends on the speed of the moving endpoint.

Abstract:In this paper, by a new constructive method, the authors reprove the global exact boundary controllability of a class of quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with linearly degenerate characteristics. It is shown that the system with nonlinear boundary conditions is globally exactly boundary controllable in the class of piecewise C-1 functions. In particular, the authors give the optimal control time of the system. Finally, a new example belonging to this kind of system is also provided.

Abstract:In this paper,exact controllability and exact null controllability of infinite di- mensional linear systems are considered in non-reflexive state space and reflexive control space.For the systems governed by C-semigroups,the criteria for exact controllability and exact null controllability via controls in LP([O,T],U),1<p≤∞are obtained.For the sys- tems governed by C_0-semigroups,the authors also get a necessary and sufficient condition for exact null controllability via controls in L~P([O,T],U),1<p≤∞.Two applications are given to illustrate the abstract results.
