Abstract:A new steroidal glycoside (1), (25R)-14α, 17α-hydroxyspirost-5-en-3β-yl 3-O-α-L-rhamnpyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-glucopyranoside, together with three known steroidal glycosides, (25R)-3β-hydroxyspirost-5-en-1β-yl-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-arabinopyranoside (2), Cixi-ophiopogon B (3) and Cixi-ophiopogon A (4), were obtained from the tuberous roots of Ophiopogon japonicus (Liliaceae). Compound 2 was isolated from the Ophiopogon genus for the first time. Their structures were identified on the basis of extensive mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis.

Abstract:The aim of current study was to investigate the chemical components of the aerial part of Reineckia carnea, collected in Yunnan Province of China. Repeated column chromatography (CC) separations were performed to isolate and purify components.Compounds were identified by the analysis of their 1D and 2D NMR data as well as IR and MS spectra. A new pregnane-type glycoside, named 1α,3β-diol-5β-pregn-16-ene-20-one-1-O-α-L-arabinosyl-(1→2)-α-L-rhamnoside (1), together with β-amyrin (2),stigmasterol (3), α-spinasterol-3-O-β-D-glucoside (4), naringenin (5), β-sitosterol (6) and daucosterol (7), were isolated from ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and normal butanol (n-BuOH) extracts. Compounds 2, 4, 5 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Schicagenins A-C (1-3), three unprecedented nortriterpenoids characterized with a tetracyclic oxa-cage motif and C(9) side chain, were discovered from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute stereochemistries were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and CD experiments. A plausible biosynthetic pathway of 1-3 was also discussed.

Abstract:Seven undescribed pregnane glycosides named amurensides A-G and two known aglycones were isolated from the whole herb of Adonis amurensis Regel & Radde. Their structures were established based on 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and acid hydrolysis. The cytotoxicity of all compounds against three tumor cell lines (HepG2, Caco-2, and A549) were evaluated. Among them, amurensides A-C and E showed moderate inhibitory effects on the growth of HepG2 cells, with IC50 values ranging from 15.6 to 48.7 μM (sorafenib, 7.5 ± 1.9 μM). Amurensides A、D and F displayed inhibitory effects on the growth of A549 cells with IC50 values of 18.8 ± 1.2, 12.4 ± 0.6, and 30.4 ± 0.1 μM (cis-platinum, 6.1 ± 0.1 μM), respectively.

Abstract:Three new iridoid glycosides, epiasperuloside (1), epipaederosidic acid (2), and epipaederoside (3), together with 7 known compounds, were isolated from the 85% ethanol extract of the leaves of Saprosma ternatum Hook. f. Their structures were determined by application of spectroscopic (NMR, MS) and chemical methodologies. The antioxidant activity was evaluated for all isolates in terms of both DPPH and ABTS bioassays. Epiasperuloside (1) showed some antioxidant activity.

Abstract:From remaining aqueous fraction of the roots of Streptocaulon juventas, one new cardiac glycoside named periplogenin 3-O-β-gentiobioside (1) together with six known ones (2-7) were isolated. Their relative structures were elucidated based on NMR spectroscopic analysis. Compound 1 showed moderate cytotoxicity against non-small cell lung carcinoma NCI-H460 and ovarian cancer HeLa cells. Moreover, compounds 2 and 3 exhibited remarkable cytotoxicity against NCI-H460 cell with the IC50 values of 0.34 and 0.068 μM, respectively.

Abstract:Four new pregnane glycosides, stelmatocryptonoside A, B, C, and D (1–4), were isolated from the stems of Stelmatocrypton khasianum. On the basis of chemical and spectral data, the structures of 1–4 were established as 3β, 16α-dihydroxy-pregn-5-en-20-one-16-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)]-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside; 3β, 20-dihydroxy-pregn-5-en-20-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-digitalopyranoside; 3β, 16α-dihydroxy-pregn-5-en-20-one-16-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside; and 3β, 16α-dihydroxy-pregn-5-en-20-one-16-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside. This is the first report of pregnane glycosides with sugar chains linked at C-16 of the aglycone.

Abstract:Three new acetylated anthraquinone glycosides (1-3) were isolated from the seed of Cassia obtusifolia, together with one parent anthraquinone glycoside (1a). Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic methods and physicochemical properties as obtusifoline-2-O-β-d-2, 6-di-O-acetylglucopyranoside (1), obtusifoline-2-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (1a), obtusifoline-2-O-β-d-3, 6-di-O-acetylglucopyranoside (2), and obtusifoline-2-O-β-d-4, 6-di-O-acetylglucopyranoside (3).

Besides, the anti-tumor activities of the gamma-pyranone derivatives to human hepatoma (SMMC-7721), human embryo liver (L-02) and human leukemia (HL-60) cells were evaluated.

Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Five new (1-5) and twelve known (6-17) different types of glycosides together with a known sesquiterpene triol (18) were isolated from the methanol extract of the rhizomes of Notopterygium incisum. The new structures were elucidated by means of spectroscopic and chemical methods to be pregn-5-en-3 beta,20(S)-diol- 3-O-bis-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(l -> 2,1 -> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), oleuropeic aldehyde 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), 2(R)(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-propane-1,3-diol-1-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), eudesman-3 alpha, 4 alpha, 11-triol-11-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (4), and marmesin-11-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 -> 6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (5). The absolute configuration of the aglycone in compound 3 was assigned by application of Klyne's rule.

Abstract:Three new lignan glycosides (1-3) were isolated from the stems of Akebia trifoliata. Their structures were elucidated as (7R,8R,7'R,8'R)3,3',5,5'tetramethoxy-4,4'dihydroxy-7,9':7',9-diepoxylignan-4-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside(1), (7S,8S,8'R)-4,4',9-trihydroxy-3,3',5,5'-tetramethoxy-7,9'-epoxylignan-7'-one 9-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2),(7R,8R,8'S)-4,4',9-trihydroxy3,3',5,5'-tetramethoxy-7,9'-epoxylignan-7'-one 9-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3) by spectral analyses, primarily NMR, MS and CD. Abstract:A new triterpenoid saponin, named terpengustifol A (1), and two new lignan glucosides, phengustifols A and B (2 and 3), were isolated from the flowers of Elaeagnus angustifolia. Their structures were determined by the extensive analysis of the spectroscopic data (including NMR and HRMS) and ECD calculations. Compound 1 possesses an unusual monoterpene (Z)-6-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylocta-2,7-dienoyl unit at C-21. Compounds 2 and 3 are a pair of diastereoisomers, while their aglycones are a pair of enantiomers. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited moderate cytotoxic activities against A375 cell lines with IC50 values at 12.1 and 15.6 μM, respectively. This is firstly reported the triterpenoid saponin and lignans isolated from the Elaeagnus angustifolia flowers.

Abstract:Six C-glucosyl anthrones were characterized as three pairs of epimers by on-line high performance liquid chromatography–circular dichroism (HPLC–CD) analysis and isolated from the roots of Rumex dentatus by column chromatography. Their structures were elucidated by mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic spectroscopy and HPLC–CD analysis. They are 10R-C-β-d-glucosyl-10-hydroxyemodin-9-anthrone (rumejaposide E, 1) and 10S-C-β-d-glucosyl-10-hydroxyemodin-9-anthrone (rumejaposide F, 2), 10R-C-β-d-glucosylemodin-9-anthrone (rumejaposide G, 3) and 10S-C-β-d-glucosylemodin-9-anthrone (rumejaposide H, 4), 10S-C-β-d-glucosyl-10-hydroxychrysophanol-9-anthrone (cassialoin, 5) and 10R-C-β-d-glucosyl-10-hydroxychrysophanol-9-anthrone (rumejaposide I, 6). Rumejaposides F–I (2–4 and 6) were new C-glucosyl anthrones. Rumejaposide E (1) and cassialoin (5) were isolated for the first time in Rumex plants. On-line HPLC–UV–CD analysis was a useful tool for structure elucidating epimeric C-glycosides anthrones 3–6 because of the poor stability of the pure isomers (3 and 4) and the minute quantity of 5 and 6 in the mixture.

Abstract:Five new iridoid glucosides, cannabifolisides A-E (1 - 5), together with nine analogues (6 - 14), were isolated from the leaves of Vitex negundo var. cannabifolia. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data (NMR, UV, IR, and MS) analyses and comparison of their spectroscopic and physical data with the literature values. The protective effect of isolated compounds on human gastric epithelial cells were evaluated by measuring the enhanced cell viability of GES-1 cell insulted by TCA. Among these, compounds 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 remarkably increased the cell viability in a concentration-depend manner.

Their structures were elucidated as 3alpha-acetoxy-27-trans-caffeoyloxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid methyl ester (1) and 3-oxotirucalla-7, 24-dien-21-oic acid (2) on the basis of spectroscopic evidence. 1 is a new triterpene ester and 2 is a known compound isolated for the first time from genus Peganum.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the constituents from Euphorbia humifusa Willd. has resulted in the isolation of three new alpha-pyrrolidinonoidal compounds, 5beta-methoxy-4beta-hydroxy-3-methylene-alpha-pyrrolidinone (1), 5beta-methoxy-4alpha-hydroxy-3-methylene-alpha-pyrrolidinone (2), and 5beta-butoxy-4alpha-hydroxy-3-methylene-alpha-pyrrolidinone (3), and three new glycosides including an indole glycoside, 3-(2-hydroxyethyl)-5-(1-O-beta-glucopyranosyloxy)-indole (4), an ionone glycoside, 3-oxo-7,8-dihydro-alpha-ionone-11-O-beta-glucoside (5), and a hemiterpene glycoside, 1-(4-hydroxy-2-methyl-2-buten-1-yl)-6- (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyl)-beta-d-glucose (6), along with 10 known compounds. Their structures were elucidated by analysis of 1D and 2D NMR spectral data. The structure of 1 was further confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
