Analysis of serum uric acid levels and related risk factors in ischemic stroke patients

Abstract:Objective To investigate the serum uric acid levels and the related risk factors in ischemic stroke patients.Methods Serum uric acid levels and related risk factors were compared between 145 ischemic stroke patients(trial group) and 123 normal controls,which were further analyzed by Logistic regression modeling.The trial group were divided into 3 subgroups respectively according to different ages and onset period.Results In the group of ischemic stroke patients,the cases of diabetes,hyperlipidemia and the levels of uric acid were significantly higher than those in the control group,which were closely related to the development of ischemic stroke(P < 0.05) showed by Logistic regression modeling.The age >60 patients group had a higher uric acid level [(345.73 ±40.09) μmol/L] than age <45 and 45-60 group,the differences were statistically significant(P < 0.05).The onset period less than 1 day patients group had a higher uric acid level [(351.08±52.41) μmol/L] than 1~<4 days and 4-7 days group,the differences of two were statistically significant(P < 0.05).Conclusion The elevated serum levels of uric acid may be risk factor for ischemic stroke.The levels of uric acid increased with the growth of patients' age,and decreased with disease progress.
