Abstract:Some agronomic characteristics such as height, stem diameter, relative leaf area and leaf length breadth ratio and components such as water content, total polysaccharide, water-soluble polysaccharide, and cellulose contents of 8 kinds Dendrobium officinale from different distribution areas were determined and analyzed. It was found that the differences among these agronomic characteristics have to some extent related to where they are from. Dendrobium officinale from Yandang and Yunnan areas which have moderate plant morphology and robust stem are better then that in other areas for planting in Zhejiang, but for Dendrobium officinale from Yunnan, the greenhouse is nessesary.

Abstract:Ficus pumila L. has been used as a functional plant for a long time in East Asia, especially its fruits, as a dietary component in Japan and parts of China. A series of bioactive compounds, including phenolic acids, flavonoids, terpenoids, alcohols, and steroids, have been extracted from the stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits of Ficus pumila L. Accumulated studies have demonstrated that Ficus pumila L. has multiple therapeutic activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antitumor, hypoglycemic, and cardiovascular protective effects. Moreover, Ficus pumila L. has extensive applications, such as in the food industry and ecological city construction. Herein, we summarize the latest knowledge about the bioactive compounds and therapeutic activities of Ficus pumila L., and its applications in the food industry and ecological city construction are also discussed. We hope that this comprehensive review can attract more attention to Ficus pumila L. and be helpful for its further applications.
Review of the recent advances in polysaccharides from Ficus carica: Extraction, purification, structural characteristics, bioactivities and potential applications

Abstract:Ficus carica (F. carica), commonly referred to as the fig tree, has received considerable attention due to its delectable and nutritious fruits. F. carica polysaccharides (FPs) are one of the key bioactive constituents of F. carica, demonstrating various biological activities such as antioxidative, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor effects, among others. Nevertheless, the extraction and purification techniques for FPs still require innovations to address their structural characteristics in order to elucidate the intricate mechanisms affecting their biological activities. Given this, the current review systematically summarizes the recent advancements in FPs, covering extraction, purification, structural characteristics, bioactivities, structure-activity relationships (SARs), current applications, challenges and future prospects. The composition of FPs predominantly includes Glu, Gal, and Rha, with a broad molecular weight distribution (ranging from 21.9 kDa to 6890 kDa). The SARs analysis suggests that the bioactivities of FPs are closely linked to their monosaccharide composition, molecular weight, uronic acid content, and configuration characteristics, underscoring the significant role of FPs in driving the development of novel bioactive compounds in the health, food, and medical sectors. In conclusion, this review would contribute the valuable research insights and provide the updated information to foster the advancement of FPs for diverse therapeutic and industrial applications.

Abstract:Ficus genus is typically tropical plants and is among the earliest fruit trees cultivated by humans. Ficus carica L. is the common fig, Ficus benjamina L. is the weeping fig, and Ficus pumila L. is the creeping fig. These species are commonly used in traditional medicine for a wide range of diseases and contain rich secondary metabolites that have shown diverse applications. This comprehensive review describes for Ficus genus the phytochemical compounds, traditional uses and contemporary pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, cytotoxic, antimicrobial, anti‐inflammatory, antidiabetic, antiulcer, and anticonvulsant. An extended survey of the current literature (Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed) has been carried out as part of the current work. The trends in the phytochemistry, pharmacological mechanisms and activities of Ficus genus are overviewed in this manuscript: antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anti‐inflammatory and analgesic activity, antiseizure and anti‐Parkinson's diseases, cytotoxic and antioxidant. Health‐promoting effects, recent human clinical studies, safety and adverse effects of Ficus plants also are covered. The medical potential and long‐term pharmacotherapeutic use of the genus Ficus along with no serious reported adverse events, suggests that it can be considered as being safe.

Abstract:The leaves of Ficus carica Linn. (FC) have been widely used for medicine purposes since ancient times, and its decoction is consumed as tea. Many scientific papers have been published in the literature and the researchers across the world are still exploring the health benefits of FC leaves. In this review, we have collected the literature published since 2010 in the databases: Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, SciFinder, Google Scholar, Baidu Scholar and local classic herbal literature. The summary of the chemical constituents in FC leaves, biological activities, toxicity studies, and clinical studies carried out on FC leaves is provided in this review. In addition, the molecular mechanisms of the active constituents in FC leaves are also comprehended. FC leaves are reported to 126 constituents out of which the polyphenolic compounds are predominant. Many scientific studies have proven the antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anticholinesterase, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, and renoprotective activities. Many studies have carried out to provide the insights on molecular pathways involved in the biological activities of FC leaves. The toxicity studies have suggested that FC leaves exhibit toxicity only at very high doses. We believe this review serve as a comprehensive resource for those who are interested to understand the scientific evidence that support the medicinal values of FC leaves and also the research gaps to further improve the commercial value and health benefits of FC leaves.

Abstract:Objective:To study the chemical constituents of Ficus pumila.Methods:The chemical constituents were separated and purified by silica gel,ODS column chromatographies,Sephadex LH-20,and preparative HPLC.Their structures were determined by physicochemical properties and spectral data analysis.Results:Eleven compounds were isolated from Ficus pumila,their structures were identified as taraxerol (1),taraxeryl actate (2),(23Z)-cycloart-en-3β,25-di-ol (3),3β-acetoxycycloartan-24-al (4),(24R)-63-hyodroxy-24-ethyl-cholest-4-en-3-one (5),β-sitosterol (6),7-keto-β-sitosterol (7),trans-p-hydroxyl ethyl cinnamate (8),pubinernoid A (9),dihydrodehydrodiconiferyl alchol(10) and oxindole (11).Conclusion:Compounds 4 and 9 ～ 11 are reported from Ficus genus for the first time,compounds 2,4,5 and 8 ～ 11 are isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Ficus is one of the largest genera in the plant kingdom that belongs to the Moraceae family. This review aimed to summarize the medicinal uses, phytochemistry, and pharmacological actions of two major species from this genus, namely Ficus benghalensis and Ficus religiosa. These species can be found abundantly in most Asian countries, including Malaysia. The chemical analysis report has shown that Ficus species contained a wide range of phytoconstituents, including phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, terpenoids, glycosides, sugar, protein, essential and volatile oils, and steroids. Existing studies on the pharmacological functions have revealed that the observed Ficus species possessed a broad range of biological properties, including antioxidants, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antitumor and antiproliferative, antimutagenic, antimicrobial, anti-helminthic, hepatoprotective, wound healing, anticoagulant, immunomodulatory activities, antistress, toxicity studies, and mosquitocidal effects. Apart from the plant parts and their extracts, the endophytes residing in these host plants were discussed as well. This study also includes the recent applications of the Ficus species and their plant parts, mainly in the nanotechnology field. Various search engines and databases were used to obtain the scientific findings, including Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PMC, Research Gate, and Scopus. Overall, the review discusses the therapeutic potentials discovered in recent times and highlights the research gaps for prospective research work.

Abstract:Ficus beipeiensis S.S. Chang ,a dioecious species ,is distributed only on the rock walls of lime‐stone in the Jinyun Mountains ,Chongqing .Up to now ,only five wild plants have been discovered in the wild .In a preliminary study ,the morphological characteristics of F. beipeiensis and its relative species F. auriculata and F. oligodon were investigated and compared with the morphological ,anatomical and eco‐logical methods .Male and female plants of F. beipeiensis were found to be significantly different in mor‐phology .Male plant leaves :leaf blade ovate ,papery ;female plant leaves :leaf blade oblong‐elliptic ,thick‐ly papery ;female syconia :about 1.51 cm in average diam ,pear‐shaped;male syconia :about 3.90 cm in average diam ,globose .Male plants were similar to F. auriculata in morphological structure of leaf ,but female plants were different from F. auriculata and F. oligodon .Then ,male plants were similar to them in morphological structure of their syconium ,while female plants were different from them .1 541.45 ± 191.6 (SD) female flowers per female syconium ,meanwhile 183.29 ± 31.39 (SD) male flowers and 4 323.37 ± 118.69 (SD) gall flowers were in the same male syconium .Female flowers :ovary globose , stigma clavate ;gall flowers :style trumpet‐shaped ,ovary obovate ;male flowers :stamens 2 ,and distribu‐ted around the bracts ,not sparsely distributed in the syconium .T he characteristics of the morphological structure of the flowers of the three Ficus species were closely associated with behaviors of pollinating fig w asps .

Abstract:Taking Ficus pandurata hance var.angustifolia Cheng as object,nutrional components,amino acids components and mineral elements components in leaves,stem and root were analyzed. Determination conditions of the flavonoid were also studied,and the content was determined. The result showed that protein,crude fat, crude fiber,total sugar and vitamin C were rich in leaves,stems and roots of Ficus pandurata hance var. angustifolia Cheng,particularly the content of leaves were the most. The complete compositions of amino acids existed in Ficus pandurata hance var.angustifolia Cheng,and there were well balanced with reasonable proportion of essential amino acids and total amino acids. There were rich in essential trace elements Cr,Mn, Fe,Cu,Zn,As,Se,Ag,Cd,Hg and Pb in Ficus pandurata hance var.angustifolia Cheng,particularty the content of Mn,Fe,Zn were much more. The toatal flavonoid in Ficus pandurata hance var.angustifolia Cheng was measured by hydrochloric acid-Mg as developing reagents,this method was simple,rapid and accurate. The toatal flavonoid content of Ficus pandurata hance var.angustifolia Cheng was 12.74g/kg. The test showed that Ficus Dandurata hance var.anaustifolia Chena had nutritive value and health function.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents of the aerial roots of Ficus microcarpa.METHODS:The compounds were isolated and purified by column chromatographic methods on silica gel and Sephadex LH-20. Their structures were elucidated by physicochemical properties and spectral data.RESULTS:12 compounds were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract. Their structures were idenified as 3beta-hydroxy-11-oxours-12-ene (1), 3beta-acetoxy-11-oxours-12-ene (2), oleanic acid (3), 3beta-hydroxy-oleana-11,13 (18)-dien-28-oic acid (4), betulinic acid (5), pyracrenic acid (6), platanic acid (7), isowigtheone (8), myrsininone A (9), derrone (10), alpinumisoflavone (11) and caffeic acid methyl ester (12), respectively.CONCLUSION:Compounds 4, 6, 12 are obtained from this genus for the first time, compounds 1, 7 - 11 are isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:The chemical constituents of the root bark of Ficus tsiangii were investigated.Merr.ex Corner compounds were separated and purified by column chromatography.According to NMR and MS their structures were elucidated to be: β-amyrin acetate(1),taraxerone(2),taraxerol(3),2α-hydroxyoleanolic acid(4),oleanolic acid(5),β-stosterol(6),stigmasterol(7),chrysoeriol(8),4′,5,7-trihydroxyisoflavone(9).Literature survey in CA showed that compounds 1-9 were isolated from this plant and compound 2 was isolated from the Ficus genus for the first time.

Abstract:This study was designed to comparative evaluate total flavonoid contents (TFC) in leaf, aerial root, twig, root and bark parts of Ficus microcarpa L.f. (Moraceace). Ultrasonic-assisted extraction was adopted using benign solvent: ethanol and water to determine the extraction efficiency under the condition of ethanol concentration 40%, solid/liquid ratio of 1:25, extraction time 35 min and extraction temperature at 60 °C. According to the experimental results, the TFC values varied considerably and the extraction yield of 2.67±0.02%, 3.70±0.043%, 2.99±0.04%, 6.56±0.83% and 4.26±0.18% were obtained from different parts, respectively. The root part was characterized as containing a high amount of flavonoids, which might be the active compounds responsible for the pharmaceutical properties of the plant. The study offers theoretic basis for further utilization of the traditional folk herb F. microcarpa.

Abstract:Ficus (Moraceae) is a keystone group in tropical and subtropical forests with remarkable diversity of species and taxonomical challenges as a consequence of fig–pollinator coevolution. Ficus subsect. Frutescentiae includes about 30 species that are predominantly shrubs or small trees with Terminalia branching. Many of these species are difficult to delimit morphologically, and the group includes a tangle of uncertain taxa and incorrectly applied names. We conducted a phylogenetic analysis with internal and external transcribed spacer data (ITS and ETS) and data from 18 polymorphic microsatellite loci to evaluate the species status of the most perplexing members of this subsection. The results confirm the monophyly of subsect. Frutescentiae, with F. pedunculosa as sister to the rest. The F. erecta complex comprises approximately 17 taxa: F. erecta, F. abelii, F. boninsimae, F. nishimurae, F. iidaiana, F. gasparriniana var. laceratifolia, F. gasparriniana var. viridescens, F. pyriformis, F. stenophylla, F. fusuiensis, F. fengkaiensis, F. sinociliata, F. tannoensis, F. vaccinioides, F. formosana, F. pandurata, and F. periptera. The last five of these were supported as good species, while the others were not well supported by the present evidence. Evidence also supported the status of the non-F. erecta complex species including. F. pedunculosa, F. ischnopoda, F. heteromorpha, and F. variolosa. Ficus filicauda and F. neriifolia are possibly conspecific. The species status of F. potingensis should be restored and it should be treated as a member of section Eriosycea. Identification of the remaining taxa (F. gasparriniana var. esquirolii, F. ruyuanensis, F. daimingshanensis, F. chapaensis, F. changii, F. trivia, and F. tuphapensis) and their relationships to the F. erecta complex were not clarified. As a whole, only ten species in this subsection are confirmed, one is excluded, one is synonymous, and the others are either unresolved or short of samples. There appears to be a consistent genetic background among these unresolved groups, which suggests that repeated hybridization (as a result of pollinator host shifts) has filled up the interspecific gaps during the fig–pollinator coevolution process.

Abstract:Aim: This study aims to analyse and characterise the leaf powder of Ficus carica, Ficus exasperata, and Ficus thonningii. Methodology: Ficus carica, Ficus exasperata, and Ficus thonningii leaf powder were analysed quantitatively for proximate, phytochemicals, minerals, and antioxidant activity. Results: The ash, crude protein, and nitrogen free extract concentration were significantly (P<0.05) higher in Ficus carica leaf powder than the rest Ficus species under study. However, the crude fiber and crude fat concentrations were higher (P<0.05) in Ficus thonningii and Ficus exasperata leaf powder, respectively. The concentration of tannins, flavonoids, phenols, and saponins was higher (P<0.05) in Ficus exasperata than other Ficus species under study. However, the concentration of the alkaloids was higher (P<0.05) in Ficus carica leaf powder than Ficus exasperata and Ficus thonningii leaf powder. The Zn and P were higher (P<0.05) in Ficus carica than the rest F. species under study. The Fe contents of F. carica and F. exasperata leaf powders were higher (P 0.05) than F. exasperata leaf powder. The 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate value was higher (P<0.05) in Fiscus exasperata leaf powder than F. carica and F. thonningii. However, the value of vitamin c was higher (P<0.05) in Ficus carica, compared to the rest F. species. Conclusion: This study reveals that the leaf powder of F. carica, F. exasperata, and F. thonningii contains a significant number of minerals and phytochemicals with high antioxidant activity and could be employed as a natural feed supplement in animal nutrition.
