Ductal adenocarcinoma of the prostate: clinical analysis of 8 cases

Abstract:Objective To determine the chinical characteristics,pathologic features,principles of diagnosis and treatment of ductal adenocarcinoma of the prostate( DAP).Methods 8 patients diagnosed with ductal adenocarcinoma of the prostate between July 2008 and July 2012 in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital were retrospectively analyzed.Results Eight patients' age ranged from 53 to 86-year-old with a median age at 70.25year-old.All cases were confirmed by pathological examination.Among the eight patients,three underwent radical prostatectomy,three received transurethral resection of the prostate associated with androgen deprivation,one received hermone therapy solely,one underwent prostate brachytherapy.Seven of eight patients had been followed up which lasted from 14 months to 4 years.One patient developed multiple liver and bone metastases and died shortly after.The other 6 patients didn't show any evidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis.Conclusion DAP is very difficult to diagnosis during the early stage,and tends to pursue more aggressive clinical course and poorer prognosis.Once the diagnosis is determined,local radical therapies should be recommended.
