Abstract:By using the reductive perturbation method, the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in fluid-filled elastic tube is obtained. We study several different kinds of the nonlinear wave solutions for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. It is noted that the kinds of the nonlinear waves are determined by a parameter of ab(a is the amplitude of the background plane wave, while b is a controllable parameter which depend on the initial condition, boundary condition and other external perturbations). As the decreases of parameter ab, the number of the waves frequency increases, while their amplitude decreases. It is also found that all the waves amplitude increases as the wave number k and the radius of elastic tube increases, however, they are independent of the fluid density, the thickness of elastic tube and the Young's modulus of the elastic tube. The amplitudes are different among different kinds of waves. However, the wave velocities of different waves are the same under the same parameters. They decrease as the wave number k, fluid density and the radius of elastic tube increase, while they increase as the thickness of elastic tube and the Young's modulus of elastic tube increase.Graphical abstractDownload : Download high-res image (224KB)Download : Download full-size image

Abstract:This work studies the wave propagation in embedded single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) conveying fluid and placed in multi-physical fields based on the non-local higher-order strain gradient model with surface effect considered. The nanotubes are modelled as Timoshenko beams. Utilising Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of wave motion in CNTs are derived. The solution for the phase velocity of wave motion is obtained, which can not only consider the stiffness softening effect but also reflect the stiffness enhancement effect of scale parameter observed by experiments. The numerical simulations are conducted to compare the results on the basis of different order non-local strain gradient models. It is shown that the behaviours of wave propagation based on the non-local higher-order strain gradient models are quite different from those based on the classical continuum model. In addition, the scale and surface effects and influences of various external factors including inner flow, surrounding medium, temperature field, and magnetic field on the wave dispersion are investigated.

Abstract:Assume that a fluid is inviscid, incompressible, and irrotational. A nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) describing the evolution of gravity waves in finite water depth is derived using the multiple-scale analysis method. The gravity waves are influenced by a linear shear flow, which is composed of a uniform flow and a shear flow with constant vorticity. The modulational instability (MI) of the NLSE is analyzed, and the region of the MI for gravity waves (the necessary condition for existence of freak waves) is identified. In this work, the uniform background flows along or against wave propagation are referred to as down-flow and up-flow, respectively. Uniform up-flow enhances the MI, whereas uniform down-flow reduces it. Positive vorticity enhances the MI, while negative vorticity reduces it. Hence, the influence of positive (negative) vorticity on MI can be balanced out by that of uniform down (up) flow. Furthermore, the Peregrine breather solution of the NLSE is applied to freak waves. Uniform up-flow increases the steepness of the free surface elevation, while uniform down-flow decreases it. Positive vorticity increases the steepness of the free surface elevation, whereas negative vorticity decreases it.

Abstract:This article develops an analytical solution for the transient wave propagation of a cylindrical P-wave line source in a semi-infinite elastic solid with a fluid layer. The analytical solution is presented in a simple closed form in which each term represents a transient physical wave. The Scholte equation is derived, through which the Scholte wave velocity can be determined. The Scholte wave is the wave that propagates along the interface between the fluid and solid. To develop the analytical solution, the wave fields in the fluid and solid are defined, their analytical solutions in the Laplace domain are derived using the boundary and interface conditions, and the solutions are then decomposed into series form according to the power series expansion method. Each item of the series solution has a clear physical meaning and represents a transient wave path. Finally, by applying Cagniard's method and the convolution theorem, the analytical solutions are transformed into the time domain. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate some interesting features in the fluid layer, the interface and the semi-infinite solid. When the P-wave velocity in the fluid is higher than that in the solid, two head waves in the solid, one head wave in the fluid and a Scholte wave at the interface are observed for the cylindrical P-wave line source.

Abstract:In this work, a variable coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger (vc-NLS) equation is under investigation, which can describe the amplification or absorption of pulses propagating in an optical fiber with distributed dispersion and nonlinearity. By means of similarity reductions, a similar transformation helps us to relate certain class of solutions of the standard NLS equation to the solutions of integrable vc-NLS equation. Furthermore, we analytically consider nonautonomous breather wave, rogue wave solutions and their interactions in the vc-NLS equation, which possess complicated wave propagation in time and differ from the usual breather waves and rogue waves. Finally, the main characteristics of the rational solutions are graphically discussed. The parameters in the solutions can be used to control the shape, amplitude and scale of the rogue waves.

Abstract:Nonlinear phenomena, characterized by behaviors that cannot be explained by linear systems and has significant challenges in understanding and modeling. To address this, the mathematical description of such phenomena relies on differential equations. In this study, we investigate the cubic-quintic-septimal nonlinear (7th order nonlinear media) Schrödinger wave equation, which governs the evolution of light beams in a weak non-local medium. The novelty of our study lies in the application of the improved generalized Riccati equation mapping method to obtain exact solutions for the governed equation. This scheme offers a systematic and reliable approach to exploring nonlinear phenomena, contributing to the advancement of nonlinear science and its practical applications. By applying the proposed scheme, a range of exact solutions encompassing trigonometric, rational, exponential, and hyperbolic functions are derived which offer insights into the dynamics of the light beams. Additionally, 2D and 3D graphical illustration are presented to provide a comprehensive demonstration of their dynamical behavior. Furthermore, it is important to highlight the significance of studying the cubic-quintic-septimal nonlinear Schrödinger wave equation which has application in various domains such as quantum mechanics, optics, and nonlinear wave propagation. Understanding of its solutions facilitates the design and optimization of systems involving weak non-local media.

Abstract:The general form of the cubic Boussinesq-type equation is considered. In special cases, this equation is reduced to the three different versions of the cubic Boussinesq equations and also the generalized modified cubic Boussinesq equation. Using the slowly varying envelope approximation and the generalized perturbation reduction method the cubic Boussinesq-type equation is transformed to the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations and the two-component nonlinear solitary wave solution is obtained. Explicit analytical expressions for the shape and parameters of the two-component nonlinear pulse oscillating with the sum and difference of the frequencies and wave numbers are presented. It is shown that obtained solution coincides with the vector $0\pi$ pulse of the self-induced transparency.

Abstract:The interaction between two co-propagating electrostatic wavepackets characterized by arbitrary carrier wavenumber is considered. A one-dimensional (1D) non-magnetized plasma model is adopted, consisting of a cold inertial ion fluid evolving against a thermalized (Maxwell-Boltzmann distributed) electron background. A multiple-scale perturbation method is employed to reduce the original model equations to a pair of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (CNLS) equations governing the dynamics of the wavepacket amplitudes (envelopes). The CNLS equations are in general asymmetric for arbitrary carrier wabvenumbers. Similar CNLS systems have been derived in the past in various physical contexts, and were found to support soliton, breather, and rogue wave solutions, among others. A detailed stability analysis reveals that modulational instability (MI) is possible in a wide range of values in the parameter space. The instability window and the corresponding growth rate are determined, considering different case studies, and their dependence on the carrier and the perturbation wavenumber is investigated from first principles. Wave-wave coupling is shown to favor MI occurrence by extending its range of occurrence and by enhancing its growth rate. Our findings generalize previously known results usually associated with symmetric NLS equations in nonlinear optics, though taking into account the difference between the different envelope wavenumbers and thus group velocities.

Abstract:The Lax pair is developed to construct nonlocal symmetries of the variable-coefficient modified Korteweg–de Vries (vc-mKdV) equation in fluid-filled elastic tubes. To construct new exact solutions with the nonlocal symmetry, we use the localization approach, which can transform the problem of nonlocal symmetries to Lie point symmmetries. Furthermore, using the classic Lie group reduction method some group invariant solutions of the vc-mKdV equation are obtained. For some interesting solutions, the soliton-cnoidal waves are discussed through the graphical analysis.

Abstract:<p>This projected work applies the generalized exponential rational function method to extract the complex, trigonometric, hyperbolic, dark bright soliton solutions of the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger's equation. Moreover, trigonometric, complex, strain conditions and dark-bright soliton wave distributions are also reported. Furthermore, the modulation instability analysis is also studied in detail. To better understand the dynamic behavior of some of the obtained solutions, several numerical simulations are presented in the paper. According to the obtained results, it is clear that the method has less limitations than other methods in determining the exact solutions of the equations. Despite the simplicity and ease of use of this method, it has a very powerful performance and is able to introduce a wide range of different types of solutions to such equations. The idea used in this paper is readily applicable to solving other partial differential equations in mathematical physics.</p>

Nonlinear spatial evolution of degenerate quartets of water waves

Abstract:In this manuscript we investigate the Benjamin-Feir (or modulation) instability for the spatial evolution of water waves from the perspective of the discrete, spatial Zakharov equation, which captures cubically nonlinear and resonant wave interactions in deep water without restrictions on spectral bandwidth. Spatial evolution, with measurements at discrete locations, is pertinent for laboratory hydrodynamic experiments, such as in wave flumes, which rely on time-series measurements at a series of fixed gauges installed along the facility. This setting is likewise appropriate for experiments in electromagnetic and plasma waves. Through a reformulation of the problem for a degenerate quartet, we bring to bear techniques of phase-plane analysis which elucidate the full dynamics without recourse to linear stability analysis. In particular we find hitherto unexplored breather solutions and discuss the optimal transfer of energy from carrier to sidebands. Finally, we discuss the observability of such discrete solutions in light of numerical simulations.

Abstract:A one-dimensional nonlinear time-dependent theory for helix traveling wave tubes is studied. A generalized electromagnetic field is applied to the expression of the radio frequency field. To simulate the variations of the high frequency structure, such as the pitch taper and the effect of harmonics, the spatial average over a wavelength is substituted by a time average over a wave period in the equation of the radio frequency field. Under this assumption, the space charge field of the electron beam can be treated by a space charge wave model along with the space charge coefficient. The effects of the radio frequency and the space charge fields on the electrons are presented by the equations of the electron energy and the electron phase. The time-dependent simulation is compared with the frequency-domain simulation for a helix TWT, which validates the availability of this theory.

Abstract:This paper investigates the cubic-quintic-septimal nonlinear Schrödinger wave equation with a conformable derivative, which governs the evolution of light beams in a weak nonlocal medium. The analysis utilizes the Kudryashov method and the enhanced modified tanh expansion method. By utilizing these analytical integration schemes, various optical wave solutions are derived within the present conformable model. The paper demonstrates the significance of these optical soliton solutions by illustrating different soliton solutions, including kink-type, bell-shaped, singular, dark, and wave soliton solutions, depicted via contour, three-dimensional, and two-dimensional representations. Moreover, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of analyzing the cubic-quintic-septimal nonlinear Schrödinger wave equation, which finds utility across a spectrum of fields including optics, quantum mechanics, and the study of nonlinear wave propagation. Moving forward, these approaches hold promise for investigating diverse sets of differential equations within multiple domains of applied sciences. This governing equation also has numerous applications in nonlinear optics, such as describing the propagation of laser beams through materials with nonlinear optical properties. The inclusion of these nonlinearities illustrates the interaction and behavior of light beams in weakly non-local media.

Bifurcation of traveling wave solutions of the perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation

Abstract:In this paper, the traveling wave solutions of perturbed nonlinear Schr dinger equation in nanofibers are studied by using the bifurcation theory of dynamic systems. The phase portrait and orbit analysis of perturbed nonlinear Schr dinger equation are given in the form of graph, and the traveling wave solutions corresponding to perturbed nonlinear Schr dinger equation under different conditions are derived and analyzed. Moreover, periodic wave solutions and periodic singular wave solutions are obtained by using Jacobian elliptic function on the basis of predecessors. And it was found that the limit of periodic wave solutions is solitary wave solutions. The limit of periodic singular wave solutions is singular wave solutions. These results provide convenience for scholars to study the physical value of this equation and allow for a deeper understanding of nonlinear phenomena and their physical essence in nanofibers.

Abstract:The matched-asymptotic method is used to treat the problem of transmission and reflection of a planar solitary wave passing by a two-dimensional floating rectangular cylinder. The fluid motion in the outer region is governed by the Boussinesq equations which are solved numerically by the finite difference method. The inner region solutions, which satisfy the Laplace equation. can be expressed as eigenfunction expansions for the cylinder discussed. The outer and inner solutions are finally determined through matching and iteration process. As a numerical example. the time histories of transmitted and reflected waves as well as the forces and moment acting on the cylinder are given and discussed.

Abstract:In this work, the three-component coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (tc-CNLS) equation is systemicallyinvestigated. By using the Darboux transformation, the new breather wave and rogue wave solutions ofthe tc-CNLS equation are constructed. These solutions exhibit breather waves and rogue waves on amulti-soliton background. Furthermore, the dynamic behaviors of these solutions are analyzed withsome graphics. Our results can be of much importance in enriching and predicting rogue wavephenomena arising in nonlinear wave fields.

Abstract:A nonlinear Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients for surface waves on a large-scale steady nonuniform current has been derived without the assumption of a relative smallness of the velocity of the current. This equation can describe with good accuracy the loss of modulation stability of a wave coming to a counter current, leading to the formation of so called rogue waves. Some theoretical estimates are compared to the numerical simulation with the exact equations for a two-dimensional potential motion of an ideal fluid with a free boundary over a nonuniform bottom at a nonzero average horizontal velocity.

Abstract:The nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation and the Whitham modulation equations both describe slowly varying, locally periodic nonlinear wavetrains, albeit in differing amplitude-frequency domains. In this paper, we take advantage of the overlapping asymptotic regime that applies to both the NLS and Whitham modulation descriptions in order to develop a universal analytical description of dispersive shock waves (DSWs) generated in Riemann problems for a broad class of integrable and non-integrable nonlinear dispersive equations. The proposed method extends DSW fitting theory that prescribes the motion of a DSW's edges into the DSW's interior, i.e., this work reveals the DSW structure. Our approach also provides a natural framework in which to analyze DSW stability. We consider several representative, physically relevant examples that illustrate the efficacy of the developed general theory. Comparisons with direct numerical simulations show that inclusion of higher order terms in the NLS equation enables a remarkably accurate description of the DSW structure in a broad region that extends from the harmonic, small amplitude edge.
