Abstract:The design of AVS real-time software decoder system based on PNX1500 platform are introduced. The system can decode the standard-definition video sequences IPBB(720×576). The decoding speed can be 25 f/s, and well meet the real time decoding requirements.

Abstract:In this paper, a real-time H.264/AVC baseline profile decoder is implemented on independent platform. Computationally intensive modules in the reference decoder are optimized for various hardware platforms. Especially, a fast group-based CAVLC entropy decoding algorithm is provided in detail, and several strategies are discussed from software optimization opinion. The experiments show that the speed of our developed software-based decoder is 3 times faster than that of the H.264/AVC reference decoder. The maximum decoding speed of 74 fps for CIF sequence is achieved on Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the same video quality as the reference decoder. © 2005 IEEE.

Abstract:With the development of communication, digital video compression technology turns into one of the most flourishing realm. In this paper the author introduces an AVS decoder design based on a multimedia chip-platform. In order to obtain the optimal performance, the structure of decoder adopts parallel algorithm with the centre processer and the coprocessor. The performance of the decoder which is about ten times faster than that of the software mode rm52j_r1, meets the requirement of real-time broadcasting (30 frames per second). Some analyses about the optimization are also included in this paper.

Abstract:Trellis Code Modulation (TCM) has been widely used because it can obtain 2.55∼7.37 dB coding gain without bandwidth expansion or reduction of the effective information rates. Since Viterbi decoder plays an important role in the realization of HDTV system, we conduct the research and development on integration of Viterbi decoder. This paper proposes a new VLSI design of Viterbi decoder using ASIPs based on hardware/software co-design idea. It reduces the total design time and enhances the reliability of VLSI. We have successfully used this method for the design of Viterbi decoder in the ASTC-HDTV receiver chip.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an optimized real-time AVS (a Chinese next-generation audio/video coding standard) HDTV video decoder. The decoder has been implemented in a single SoC with HW/SW partitioning. AVS algorithms and complexity are first analyzed. Based on the analysis, a hardware implementation of the MB level 7-stage pipeline is selected. The software tasks are realized with a 32-bit RISC processor. We further propose the optimization of interface and RISC processor based on the proposed architecture. The AVS decoder (RISC processor and hardware accelerators) is described in high-level Verilog/VHDL hardware description language and implemented in a single-chip AVS HDTV real-time decoder. At 148.5 MHz working frequency, the decoder chip can support real-time decoding of NTSC, PAL or HDTV (720p@60 frames/s or 1080i@60 fields/s) bit-streams. Finally, the decoder has been fully tested on a prototyping board

Abstract:This paper presents a novel architecture of MPEG audio decoder, the input audio stream will not be serialized before decoding. Barrel shift register is used to fetch data from input buffer, which improves the efficiency of decoding process substantially. Dedicated hardware is designed to deal with input and degroup. In this scheme, the computation amount of bottleneck module can be reduced to one-fourths of the original one, and the memory storage requires half of the standard synthesis filter bank. This decoder can be used in DVB and DAB source decoding and etc.

Abstract:This paper presents a hardware efficient high definition television (HDTV) encoder for H.264/AVC. We use a two-level mode decision (MD) mechanism to reduce the complexity and maintain the performance, and design a sharable architecture for normal mode fractional motion estimation (NFME), special mode fractional motion estimation (SFME), and luma motion compensation (LMC), to decrease the hardware cost. Based on these technologies, we adopt a four-stage macro-block pipeline scheme using an efficient memory management strategy for the system, which greatly reduces on-chip memory and bandwidth requirements. The proposed encoder uses about 1126k gates with an average Bjontegaard-Delta peak signal-to-noise ratio (BD-PSNR) decrease of 0.5 dB, compared with JM15.0. It can fully satisfy the real-time video encoding for 1080p@30 frames/s of H.264/AVC high profile.
High-Performance Architecture of Deblocking Filter for AVS Video Coding

Abstract:In the video decoder for AVS, deblocking filter becomes one of the bottom necks for real-time processing. An implement architecture for deblocking filter is proposed in this paper. With a novel filtering order, the unfiltered data storage is reduced to a 16 × 8 block instead of whole 16 × 16 macroblock. With data reuse strategy, the intermediate data storage is also reduced efficiently. The experiment shows the proposed design can achieve 50 MHz with only gate count of 9.2k by using 0.18μm CMOS technology. When clocked at 50MHz, the proposed design can support real-time deblocking of HD1080 (1980 × 1088@30Hz) video application.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a system-on-chip software hardware co-design for a statistical decoder. We use the context-based adaptive binary arithmetic decoder (CABAC decoder) used in the High profile of the H.264/AVC video coding standard as a design example. The design is aimed to strike a balance between software modules and hardware modules based on design constraints. It is capable of decoding one bin per clock cycle at high clock frequencies while maintaining a slim hardware footprint. Compared to existing statistical decoders, this design is aimed for a fast and compact IP core, well verified with standard video test sequence, and ideal for a SoC implementation.

Abstract:This paper proposes a high performance 4-stage pipelined VLSI architecture of H.264/AVC CABAC decoder based on four sequential memory accesses. Through adoption of several speeding techniques such as redundant circuit and forwarding to eliminate the pipeline hazards, the parallelism among the interrelated decoding process has been fully exploited and the pipeline stalls are avoided. Additionally, by exploring parallelism in bypass mode, the proposed design decodes two successive bins in each cycle. Experimental result shows that the proposed architecture can achieve the throughput of more than 1 bin/cycle which meets the real time decoding requirement of HD1080i (1920x1088) video.

Abstract:Video decoder plays a vital role in application and industrialization of the audio and video coding standards.Focused on GB/T 20090.2,a Chinese-designed AVS standard,the design and implementation of QtAVS using a cross-platform and object oriented UI framework language Qt is introduced,which can decode AVS stream correctly as well as display decoder elements on video sequence,frame and block levels.The source code of QtAVS which has already been publicly accessed at AVS working group website could be further used in development of AVS video stream analysis software or system.

Abstract:According to the characteristics of the mobile and other embedded system,the AVS-P7 Jiben profile decoder was optimized with C language.After the optimization of the streambuffer,Exp-Golomb decoding,VLD look-up table,inverse quantization,inverse transformation,macroblock decoding,motion compensation and interpolation modules,the computational complexity and the memory were greatly reduced.The simulation results in the S3C2440(ARM920T) showed that the optimized decoder was improved 8~10 times as compared with the original decoder with the same PSNR without any distortion,which meet the basic real-time decoding requirements.Finally,the AVS standard conformance test using the AVS-P7 conformance test bitstream showed that the test results are more satisfied and ideal than the wm 2.7 provided by the AVS standard organization.

Abstract:In this demo, a real-time AVS3 8K ultra-high-definition (UHD) encoding and decoding system is presented. The high-speed encoder and decoder in this system, namely SVT-AVS3 and DAVS3 respectively, are delicately developed based on efficient parallel architectures, e.g. the Intel® Scalable Video Technology (SVT). The proposed system is implemented on the X86 platform. It can achieve 8K-UHD real-time encoding and decoding at 10-bit depth with bit rate up to 100Mbps.

Abstract:In this paper, a TPP (Task-based Parallelization and Pipelining) scheme is proposed to implement AVS (Audio Video coding Standard) video decoding algorithm on REMUS (REconfigurable MUltimedia System), which is a coarse-grained reconfigurable multimedia system. An AVS decoder has been implemented with the consideration of HW/SW optimized partitioning. Several parallel techniques, such as MB (Macro-Block)-based parallel and block-based parallel techniques, and several pipeline techniques, such as MB level pipeline and block level pipeline techniques are adopted by hardware implementation, for performance improvement of the AVS decoder. Also, most computation-intensive tasks in AVS video standards, such as MC (Motion Compensation), IP (Intra Prediction), IDCT (Inverse Discrete Cosine Transform), REC (REConstruct) and DF (Deblocking Filter), are performed in the two RPUs (Reconfigurable Processing Units), which are the major computing engines of REMUS. Owing to the proposed scheme, the decoder introduced here can support AVS JP (Jizhun Profile) 1920×1088@39fps streams when exploiting a 200 MHz working frequency.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a VLSI design of variable length code decoder for AVS video standard. As a co-processor of a RISC CPU, the design can decode fixed length code, unsigned or signed k-th Exp-Golomb code, and AVS 2-D variable length code. Furthermore, it has a pre-processing submodule, which can perform start code detection and de-stuffing for the input bitstream. The proposed architecture has been described in Verilog HDL, simulated with VCS digital simulator, and implemented using 0.18 /spl mu/ Artisan CMOS cells library by synopsys design compiler. The circuit costs about 15k equivalent logic gates (not including 4 kb on-chip SRAM). And the critical path is less than 6 ns in the worst case. This design has been implemented in a single chip AVS HDTV decoder, AVS101, which can support real-time decoding for NTSC, PAL, 720p 60 frames/s or 1080i 60 fields/s programs. Although the architecture was originally designed for AVS video standard, it can be easily adapted to other coding standards.

Abstract:This paper describes our techniques to design the intra-prediction of AVS encoder for HDTV applications. The whole design is optimized in both the algorithm and architecture levels. On the algorithm level, since the Plane mode is the most area-costly one, it is temporarily ignored. And SA ID is lastly chosen as mode decision to balance the hardware implementation with performance of Rate and Distortion. On the architecture level, in addition to five-parallel system, a new scheduling of encoding process is arranged to avoid the idle cycles together by ping-pong memory architecture between the intra-prediction and entropy coding. As a result, the proposed architecture can be implemented by 11750 Slices, achieves real-time processing Of HD(1920 x 1088)frames at a rate of 30 fps in 100 MHz operation frequency.

Abstract:The decoding process and technical character of AVS-M are introduced. The AVS-M decoder is redesigned according to wm2.5a reference code, and a few methods of optimization about memory, structure and algorithm are given. Experimental results show that the decoding rate is improved to 12~30 times.

Abstract:AVS-P7 is the recent mobile video coding standard of China. Currently, ARM cores are widely used in mobile applications because of their low power consumption. In this paper, a scheme of the AVS-P7decoder real-time implementation on 32 bit MCU RISC processor ARM920T (S3C2440) is presented. The algorithm, redundancy, structure and memory optimization methods to implement AVS-P7 real-time are discussed in detail. The experiment results demonstrate the success of our optimization techniques and the real-time implementation. The ADS, MCPS, PSNR and simulation results show that the proposed AVS-P7 decoder can decode the QVGA image sequence in real-time with high image quality and has low complexity and less memory requirement. AVS conformance test result confirms the proposed AVS-P7 decoder full compliance with AVS. The proposed AVS-P7 decoder can be applied in many real-time applications like Mobile phone and IPTV in the third generation communication.
