Abstract:This paper proves a general existence theorem of optimal growth theory. This theorem is neither restricted to the case of a constant technology progress, nor stated in terms of mathematical conditions which have no direct economic interpretation and moreover, are difficult to apply.

Abstract:We propose a new approach to deal with continuous time dynamic model with discontinuity, by which we incorporate gradual innovations and technological leaps, as well as endogenous cycles and long-run growth into one framework. We show that the optimal or equilibrium growth path is a cyclic growth path (CGP) and we develop the mathematical technique to prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution. We provide two basic setups to include the technological leaps in the R&D sector or goods production sector respectively. The growth paths under these two setups show different cyclic features and abundant economic dynamics. Our approach can be easily utilized to evaluate the optimality of the timing of the technological revolution. In the decentralized economy, the technological breakthrough is exogenous to families and always happens too late. The social planner’s problem clarifies two fundamental effects on the optimal growth path, i.e., the “dividend effect” and the “swot-up effect”, induced by discontinuous technological change. Our framework can also serve as a workhorse to address dynamic economic problems with discontinuity.

Abstract:The paper develops an endogenous growth model which involves multi-types of public expenditure,such as pure productive,pure consumptive and productive-consumptive mixed expenditures with various production elasticity or consumption elasticity respectively.In such a framework,we discuss the mechanism of multi-types of public expenditures enhancing growth and welfare,and also the existence and uniqueness of social optimal path,and give a series of optimality conditions for various types of public expenditure.The welfare properties of decentralized equilibrium are analyzed in various financing patterns.The analytic optimal solutions of three typical types of public expenditure and relevant comparative static analysis are also studied through a special example.And finally the specifications of some public services with congestion and excludability are discussed.

Abstract:The high precision and large kinematic coverage of the data from the HERA-I running period (1994-2000) have already allowed precise extractions of proton parton distribution functions (PDFs). The HERA-II running program is now underway and is expected to provide a substantial increase in the luminosity collected at HERA. In this paper, a study is presented which investigates the potential impact of future data from HERA on the proton PDF uncertainties, within the currently planned running scenario. In addition, the effect of a possible future measurement of the longitudinal structure function, FL, on the gluon distribution is investigated.

Abstract:We report that the quantity measured in the norm of the solution itself of the generalized Rosenau equation, which was completely unknown in this equation, grows in the proper order at time infinity. It is also immediately apparent that this growth aspect does not occur in three or more spatial dimensions, so we will apply the results obtained in this study to provide another proof that Hardy-type inequalities do not hold in the case of one or two spatial dimensions.

Abstract:This paper extends classical quality-improving endogenous growth model by introducing R&D complementarities and patent breadth.Each innovation consists of two sequential patent races,"research" and "development".While research is the prerequisite for development,only development directly creates profit.Research patentee's proportional claim to development profit is defined as patent breadth.The corresponding steady-state equilibrium is characterized.Due to R&D complementarities,there arise two important results.First,naturally,positive endogenous economic growth requires that patent breadth be neither too large nor too small.Secondly,in sharp contrast with classical models,the endogenous growth rate we derive has an inverted U shape with interest rate,and hence may decrease or increase in consumer's time preference rate or intertemporal substitution elasticity.This implies the possibility of the "paradox of thrift" even in endogenous growth models.

Abstract:This paper constructs a model which is more close tothe reality to describe individual saving behavior accurately and explain thelong-term growth of economy. The model constructed in this paper is theimprovement and innovation of neoclassical growth models including Solow model,RCK model and OLG model. Starting from the micro decision making of individualsand firms, there exists balanced growth path (BGP) and capital stock in steadystate satisfies the golden rule in general equilibrium. Total saving rateequals the elasticity of output with respect to capital. The long-term economicgrowth depends on exogenous technological progress.

Abstract:We study the control problem of maximizing the net benefit in the conservation of a single species with a fixed amount of resources. The existence of an optimal control is established and the uniqueness and characterization of the optimal control are investigated. Numerical simulations illustrate several cases, for both 1D and 2D domains, in which several interesting phenomena are found. Some open problems are discussed.

Abstract:In the paper,we study the dynamic consistency of optimal public expenditure. If the public expenditure enters the productive and consumptive functions in flow,it can be proved that the optimization conditions of public expenditure are the same in short-run and long-run under the premise of optimal capital accumulation,which implies that the dynamic consistency of optimal public expenditure (flow) holds between the short-run and long-run.While the public expenditure affects the economy in stock,however,the consistency no longer holds. Thus,we put forward the condition of holding dynamic consistency of public expenditure, which is separating of enterprise from government in short.

Abstract:In this article,a dynamic general equilibrium model is developed to address the issue of optimal patent length and optimal patent breadth. It is showed that optimal patent length and optimal paten breadth are all finite. Increase of patent length induces innovation, so as to increase the social welfare. Meanwhile, it leads to distortion of market also, hence decrease the social welfare. But the latter effect of patent is stronger, when paten length is infinite. So, finite patent length is optimal. Paten breadth is correlated to quality of potential imitation product negatively. Potential high quality imitation product brings decrease of monopoly price of patent product, so as to decrease of distortion of market. On the other hand, potential low quality imitation product leads to high price of paten product, so as to spur the innovation. Therefore, finite patent breadth is optimal.

Abstract:In the paper, a dynamic optimization model of investment in improvement of the resource productivity index is analyzed for obtaining balanced economic growth trends including both the consumption index and natural resources use. The research is closely connected with the problem of shortages of natural resources stocks, the security of supply of energy and materials, and the environmental effectiveness of their consumption. The main idea of the model is to introduce an integrated environment for elaboration of a control policy for management of the investment process in development of basic production factors such as capital, energy and material consumption. An essential feature of the model is the possibility to invest in economy's dematerialization. Another important construction is connected with the price formation mechanism which presumes the rapid growth of prices on exhausting materials. The balance is formed in the consumption index which negatively depends on growing prices on materials. The optimal control problem for the investment process is posed and solved within the Pontryagin maximum principle. Specifically, the growth and decline trends of the Hamiltonian trajectories are examined for the optimal solution. It is proved that for specific range of the model parameters there exists the unique steady state of the Hamiltonian system. The steady state can be interpreted as the optimal steady trajectory along which investments in improving resource productivity provide raising resource efficiency and balancing this trend with growth of the consumption index. The fact of existence of the steady state demonstrates the possibility of the growth path in an economy with exhausting resources. Sensitivity analysis of steady state solutions is implemented to demonstrate adequate trends of the model trajectories. As a result of analysis, one can elaborate investment strategies in economy's dematerialization, resource and environmental management for improving the resource productivity and for shifting the economic system from non-optimal paths to the trajectory of sustainable development.

Abstract:In this paper we extend the work by Ryuzo Sato devoted to the development of economic growth models within the framework of the Lie group theory. We propose a new growth model based on the assumption of logistic growth in factors. It is employed to derive new production functions and introduce a new notion of wage share. In the process it is shown that the new functions compare reasonably well against relevant economic data. The corresponding problem of maximization of profit under conditions of perfect competition is solved with the aid of one of these functions. In addition, it is explained in reasonably rigorous mathematical terms why Bowley's law no longer holds true in post-1960 data.

Abstract:Existence theorems for endowment economies with growth and sophisticated recursive preferences have proven difficult to come by. We offer a simple proof technique that covers many models of interest, such as the Bansal-Yaron long-run risk model, models with stochastic volatility and jumps, models with volatility of volatility and models with consumption disasters and time-varying intensities. We also prove existence for models with smooth ambiguity aversion and learning. Collectively these results cover many of the leading asset pricing models today.

Abstract:This paper extends Kurz’s (1968) growth model to a stochastic growth framework with social-status concern and unbounded production shocks. Using the stochastic monotonicity of a stochastic dynamic system and the methods adopted in Zhang (2007), the existence, uniqueness, and stability of invariant distribution are investigated. Different from the existence of multiple steady states under certainty, it is shown here that there exists a unique stable invariant distribution under uncertainty.

Abstract:Galor and Ryder [Journal of Economic Theory 49 (1989), 360–375] establish conditions for the existence of equilibrium in a Diamond-type overlapping-generations (OLG) model. Although theoretically appealing, these conditions are implicit and not convenient to apply. This paper provides explicit and easily applied conditions for the existence and uniqueness of steady-state equilibrium, with which one only needs to check the first derivatives of the production and utility functions and their interactions, with no need to solve the optimization problem. Our theorems on the existence and uniqueness of steady-state equilibrium can be applied to a larger class of OLG models that do not require second-order differentiability of the production and utility functions. We present examples to show how to check the existence and uniqueness of equilibrium.

Abstract:This paper studies a discrete-time version of the Lucas-Uzawa endogenous growth model with physical and human capital. Equilibrium existence is proved applying tools of dynamic programming with unbounded returns. The proofs rely on properties of homogeneous functions and also apply well-known inequalities in real analysis, seldom used in the literature, which significantly simplifies the task of verifying certain assumptions that are rather technical in nature.

Abstract:Time series that display periodicity can be described with a Fourier expansion. In a similar vein, a recently developed formalism enables description of growth patterns with the optimal number of parameters (Elitzur et al, 2020). The method has been applied to the growth of national GDP, population and the COVID-19 pandemic; in all cases the deviations of long-term growth patterns from pure exponential required no more than two additional parameters, mostly only one. Here I utilize the new framework to develop a unified formulation for all functions that describe growth deceleration, wherein the growth rate decreases with time. The result offers the prospects for a new general tool for trend removal in time-series analysis.

Abstract:Economic growth is unpredictable unless demand is quantified. We solve this problem by introducing the demand for unpaid spare time and a user quantity named human capacity. It organizes and amplifies spare time required for enjoying affluence like physical capital, the technical infrastructure for production, organizes and amplifies working time for supply. The sum of annual spare and working time is fixed by the universal flow of time. This yields the first macroeconomic equilibrium condition. Both storable quantities form stabilizing feedback loops. They are driven with the general and technical knowledge embodied with parts of the supply by education and construction. Linear amplification yields S-functions as only analytic solutions. Destructible physical capital controls medium-term recoveries from disaster. Indestructible human capacity controls the collective long-term industrial evolution. It is immune even to world wars and runs from 1800 to date parallel to the unisex life expectancy in the pioneering nations. This is the first quantitative information on long-term demand. The theory is self-consistent. It reproduces all peaceful data from 1800 to date without adjustable parameter. It has full forecasting power since the decisive parameters are constants of the human species. They predict an asymptotic maximum for the economic level per capita. Long-term economic growth appears as a part of natural science.

Abstract:Based on data analysis, an optimal inflation model was given to study the relationship between economy growth and inflation. It is found that the inflation takes different effects in different countries and under different conditions. The inflation can optimize resource distribution, improve resource utilization efficiency and promote economy. As far as the current economy structure of China, the government takes priority to keep certain growth rate. The currency policies, investment and other methods are used to interfere economy so as to keep proper inflation rate.
