Abstract:A determinant small-seed soybean line V97-9003 was served as the material.The experiment was conducted to measure agronomic traits of soybean under the conditions of changing pot diameter and pot depth at a constant pot volume,as well as changing plant density at the same pot size.The results showed that,(i) under the condition of changing pot diameter and pot depth at a constant pot volume,the increase of pot diameter(with shallower pot depth),the significant increase was detected only in branching number of soybean plant.In addition,at the constant pot diameter,two levels of pot depth did not result in significant effect on branching number of soybean.These results indicated that the branching number of soybean was mainly affected by pot diameter which related with plant density.(ii) Plant height of soybean showed insignificant difference among different pot sizes in the sense of statistics,but significant difference was detected under the different pot depths with a constant pot diameter.So plant height was more affected by pot depth than by pot diameter.(iii) Under the condition of changing plant density at the same pot size,most of tested traits except plant height,ineffective pot number and 100-kenel seed mass showed significant difference.Using plant number per pot as the dependant variable,the other detected traits were modulated.i.e.,height of the lowest pods(y) =0.852 1x+7.373 3(r2=0.732 6);nodes of main stem(y) =-0.336 4 x +14.88(r2=0.931 5);branching number(y)=10.889x-0.636 4(r2=0.848 4);effective pot number per plant(y) =270.45x-0.759(r2=0.828 8);seed number per plant(y) =70.464x-0.798 6(r2=0.863 6);root mass per plant(y) =7.154 9x-0.642 5(r2=0.763 3).However,seed number per pot,seed mass per pot and root mass per pot(y) can be modulated by plant number per pot(x) with linear functions only when plant number per was no more than seven or eight,ie.seed number per pot(y)=90.921x+453(r2=0.798 3);seed mass per pot(y)=9.621 4x+57.804(r2=0.716 5);root mass per pot(y)=1.329 6x+6(r2=0.904 9).These results give a reference for the soybean root research and other pot experiments.
