Abstract:Rare earth complexes were synthesized by using Tb(III) as the centralion, p phenyl benzoic acid as the ligand, and phen as the second ligand for the first time. Probable coordination structure and composition of the rare earth complexes were determined by using IR spectra, fluorescence spectra, elemental analysis, and UV absorption. The results show that the oxygen atoms from p phenyl benzoic acid and nitrogen atoms from phen coordinate to the rare earth ions in the complexes. The fluorescence emission of Tb 3+ ion can be greatly enhanced, because the energy was transferred efficiently by using p phenyl benzoic acid as the ligand. The lifetime decay curves were measured. The fluorescence quantum yields were investigated by comparison with a luminescence standard, and the yields were 0.34, 0.12 for the solid and in DMSO. The lowest triplet level of H 2L ligand was calculated from the phosphorescence of Gd-H 2L complex, and the energy transfer mechanism in the complex was discussed. Magnetic property was measured at 0-300 K and the complex is antiferromagnetic.
