Abstract:In this paper, we establish the local well-posedness of low regularity solutions to the general second order strictly hyperbolic equation of divergence form partial derivative(t)(a(0)partial derivative(t)u) + Sigma(n)(j=1)[partial derivative(t)(a(j)partial derivative(j)u) + partial derivative(j)i(a(j)partial derivative(t)u)] - Sigma(n)(j,k =1)partial derivative(j)(a(jk)partial derivative(k)u) + b(0)partial derivative(t)u + partial derivative(t)(c(0)u)+ Sigma(n)(j=1)[b(j)partial derivative(j)u + partial derivative(j)(c(j)u) + du = f in domain Omega = (0, T-0) x R-n, where the coefficients a(0), a(j), a(jk) is an element of L-infinity (Omega) boolean AND LL((Omega) over bar) (1 <= j,k <= n), b(0), c(0), b(j), c(j) is an element of L-infinity(Omega) boolean AND C-alpha((Omega) over bar) (1 <= j <= n) for alpha is an element of (1/2, 1), d is an element of L-infinity(Omega), (u(0, x), Xu(0, x)) is an element of (H1-theta+beta log) with theta is an element of (1 - alpha, alpha), ), beta is an element of R, and Xu = a(0)partial derivative(t)u + Sigma(n)(j=1) a(j)partial derivative(j)u. Compared with previous references, except a little more general initial data in the space (H-1-theta+beta( log), H-theta+beta log) (only beta = 0 is considered as before), we improve both the lifespan of u up to the precise number T* and the range of theta to the left endpoint 1 - alpha under some suitable conditions.
