Abstract:Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)has been a focus in many medical fields,which can protect cells from various injuries. So far it is found that HO-1 is the most inducible enzyme.In addition to hemin,the inducers include but are not limited to: hyperoxia,heat shock,endotoxin,cytokines,UV irradiation,heavy metals.The common characteristic of these inducers is their ability to cause oxidative stress.The protection of HO-1 is thought to be associated with its metabolites.The fully understanding of the interplay and mechanism of these characters can be very important for the prevention and treatment of many diseases.
