Abstract:Entanglement evolution of two independent Jaynes-Cummings atoms without rotating-wave approximation (RWA) is studied by an numerically exact approach. The previous results in the RWA are essentially modified in the strong coupling regime ($g\ge 0.1$), which has been reached in the recent experiments on the flux qubit coupled to the LC resonator. For the initial Bell state with anti-correlated spins, the entanglement sudden death (ESD) is absent in the RWA, but does appear in the present numerical calculation without RWA. Aperiodic entanglement evolution in the strong coupling regime is observed. The strong atom-cavity coupling facilitates the ESD. The sign of detuning play a essential role in the entanglement evolution for strong coupling, which is irrelevant in the RWA. An analytical results based on an unitary transformation are also given, which could not modify the RWA picture essentially. It is suggested that the activation of the photons may be the origin of the ESD. The present theoretical results could be applied to artificial atoms realized in recent experiments.

Abstract:Dynamics of quantum entanglement of two qubits in two identical quantum Rabi models is studied analytically in the framework of corrections to the rotating-wave approximations. A closed-form expression for the entanglement dynamics initiated from the well-known Bell states is derived, which is very close to the numerical exact results up to the ultrastrong coupling regime. It is found that the vanishing entanglement can be purely induced by the counter-rotating terms, and can be enhanced with the atom-cavity coupling.

We investigate the entanglement dynamics of the transferred state. The influence of initial states and applied lasers on the entanglement sudden death phenomenon is also discussed. Abstract:In this work, quantization of electromagnetic fields in a general anisotropic inhomogeneous media is considered. First, the classical Hamiltonian is derived. Once the Hamiltonian is derived, with it the classical equations of motion follow. Next, the fields are elevated to become quantum operators, for which conjugate pairs are endowed with commutators. Since as previously shown, such commutators induce functional derivatives, the quantum equations of motion can be easily derived. Next, the mode decomposition of the fields is demonstrated. Upon substitution into the classical Hamiltonian, each mode then behaves like a simple harmonic oscillator. These oscillators can then be elevated to become quantum harmonic oscillators. Both the traveling wave modes and the standing wave modes are discussed. Furthermore, the longitudinal modes are described. Finally, the case of impressed sources are considered, with the corresponding Hamiltonian and field quantization. The Green's functions for the linear system are presented. Finally, the quantum Maxwell's equations are derived. A short discussion on field-atom interaction is given.

Abstract:A mesoscopic circuit, where field quantization (e.g., coherent states and squeezed states) can be exhibited, is one of the ideal quantum systems for manifesting diverse quantum field theoretical phenomena and thermally statistical characteristics. Because of inevitable electromagnetic coupling (e.g., mutual capacitor coupling and mutual inductor coupling) in two neighboring mesoscopic electric circuits, quantum effects relevant to mesoscopic circuit coupling may play a key role in some devices of quantum information processing. Such a circuit coupling can lead to circuit entangled states, where the Fock number states of energy quanta in different circuits are entangled with each other. Since the time dependence in parameters of coupled-circuit Hamiltonian would result from environmental perturbations (e.g., temperature fluctuations in devices) or from some controllable manipulation (e.g., an incident ultrasonic wave), the circuit entangled states would evolve due to these external conditions. Time evolution of entangled states in coupled mesoscopic circuits is considered within a framework of time-dependent quantum theoretical formalism. Note that an applied photon field can also be coupled to such quantum entangled circuits. Then it is possible that an effect of entanglement transfer (i.e., transportation of superposition coefficients in the entangled state) from the quantum mesoscopic coupled LC circuits to the applied external photon field would also occur under some proper parameter conditions. The present characteristics of both quantized coupled mesoscopic circuits and entanglement transfer can also be found in some alternative microscopic- and mesoscopic-scale devices such as the systems in cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED).

Abstract:The exact two-particle energy eigenstates in a generic asymmetric rectangular box with periodic boundary conditions in all three directions are studied. Their relations with the elastic scattering phases of the two particles in the continuum are obtained for both D-4 and D-2 symmetries. These results can be viewed as a generalization of the corresponding formulas in a cubic box obtained by Luscher before. In particular, the s-wave scattering length is related to the energy shift in the finite box. Possible applications of these formulas are also discussed.

Abstract:We study entanglement properties of all eigenstates of the Heisenberg XXX model, and find that the entanglement and mixedness for a pair of nearest-neighbor qubits are completely determined by the corresponding eigenenergies. Specifically, the negativity of the eigenenergy implies pairwise entanglement. From the relation between entanglement and eigenenergy, we obtain finite-size behaviors of the entanglement. We also study entanglement and mixedness versus energy in the quantum Heisenberg XY model.

Abstract:We investigate the behavior of two quantum emitters (two-level atoms) embedded in a linear waveguide, in a quasi-one-dimensional configuration. Since the atoms can emit, absorb, and reflect radiation, the pair can spontaneously relax towards an entangled bound state, under conditions in which a single atom would instead decay. Exploiting the resolvent formalism, we analyze the properties of these bound states, which occur for resonant values of the interatomic distance, and discuss their relevance with respect to entanglement generation. The stability of such states close to the resonance is studied, as well as the properties of nonresonant bound states, whose energy is below the threshold for photon propagation.

Abstract:We derive a set of hierarchical equations for qubits interacting with a Lorentz-broadened cavity mode at zero temperature, without using the rotating-wave, Born, and Markovian approximations. We use this exact method to reexamine the entanglement dynamics of two qubits interacting with a common bath, which was previously solved only under the rotating-wave and single-excitation approximations. With the exact hierarchy equation method used here, double excitations due to counter-rotating-wave terms are found to have remarkable effects on the dynamics and the steady-state entanglement.

Abstract:We consider two two-level systems (TLSs) coupled to the vacuum of guided modes confined in a rectangular waveguide. Two TLSs are fixed at different points in the waveguide and initially share an excitation. For the energy separation of the TLSs far away from the cutoff frequencies of transverse modes, two coupled delay-differential equations are obtained for the probability amplitudes of the TLSs. The effects of the difference of TLSs' energy separations and the inter-TLS distance on the time evolution of the concurrence of the TLSs are examined.

Abstract:We present a comprehensive relativistic quantum-mechanical theory for interaction of a free electron with a bound electron in a model, where the free electron is represented as a finite-size quantum electron wave packet (QEW) and the bound electron is modeled by a quantum two-level system (TLS). The analysis reveals the wave-particle duality nature of the QEW, delineating the point-particle-like and wavelike interaction regimes and manifesting the physical reality of the wave function dimensions when interacting with matter. This QEW size dependence may be used for interrogation and coherent control of superposition states in a TLS and for enhancement of cathodoluminescence and electron energy-loss spectroscopy in electron microscopy.

Entangling two giant atoms via a topological waveguide

Abstract:The entanglement generation of two two-level giant atoms coupled to a photonic waveguide, which is formed by a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) type coupled-cavity array is studied. Here, each atom is coupled to the waveguide through two coupling points. The two-atom separate-coupling case is studied, and 16 coupling configurations are considered for the coupling-point distributions between the two atoms and the waveguide. Quantum master equations are derived to govern the evolution of the two atoms and characterize atomic entanglement by calculating the concurrence of the two-atom states. It is found that the two giant-atom entanglement depends on the coupling configurations and the coupling-point distance of the giant atoms. In particular, the entanglement dynamics of the two giant atoms in 14 coupling configurations depend on the dimerization parameter of the SSH waveguide. According to the self-energies of the two giant atoms, it is found that ten of these 16 coupling configurations can be divided into five pairs. It is also showed that the delayed sudden birth of entanglement between the two giant atoms is largely enhanced in these five pairs of coupling configurations. This work will promote the study of quantum effects and coherent manipulation in giant-atom topological-waveguide-QED systems.

Abstract:For complex scalar fields phi (x) and phi(dagger) (x), we introduce the entangled states parallel to xi> which are their common eigenvectors. The parallel to xi> states possessing complete and orthonormal properties are a field-theoretical generalization of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pair states in quantum mechanics. Based on the new <xi parallel to representation, we obtain the complete and orthonormal states parallel to {q}, r>, the common eigenvectors of the charge operator and phi(dagger) (x) phi (x), with which the charge lowering and raising operators can be naturally defined. The applications of our formulation are briefly discussed.

Abstract:Using a quantum mechanical model, the exact energy eigenstates for two-particle two-channel scattering are studied in a cubic box with periodic boundary conditions. A relation between the exact energy eigenvalue in the box and the two-channel S-matrix elements in the continuum is obtained. This result can be viewed as a generalization of the well-known Lüscher's formula which establishes a similar relation in elastic scattering.

Abstract:We argue that the ground state of a field theory, in the presence of charged particles, becomes an entangled state involving an infinity of soft photons. The quantum field vacuum is altered by the passage of a uniformly moving charge, leaving in its wake a different dressed ground state. In this sense a charged particle leaves its electromagnetic scent even after passing by. Unlike in classical electrodynamics the effect of the charge remains even at infinite time. The calculation is done in detail for the ground state of a spacetime wedge, although the results are more general. This agrees in spirit with recent results over the infrared aspects of field theory, although the technical details are different. These considerations open the possibility that the information carried by quantum fields, being nonlocal, does not disappear beyond the horizon of black holes.

Entanglement Entropy is Elastic Cross Section

Abstract:We present universal relations between entanglement entropy, which quantifies the quantum correlation between subsystems, and the elastic cross section, which is the primary observable for high energy particle scattering, by employing a careful formulation of wave packets for the incoming particles. For 2-to-2 elastic scattering with no initial entanglement and subdividing the system along particle labels, we show that both the Rényi and Tsallis entropies in the final states are directly proportional to the elastic cross section in unit of the transverse size for the initial wave packets, which is then interpreted as the elastic scattering probability. The relations do not depend on the underlying dynamics of the quantum field theory and are valid to all orders in coupling strengths. Furthermore, computing quantum correlations between momentum and non-kinematic data leads to entanglement entropies expressed as various semi-inclusive elastic cross sections. Our result gives rise to a novel ``area law'' for entanglement entropy in a two-body system.

Waveguide quantum electrodynamics in squeezed vacuum

Abstract:We study the dynamics of a general multi-emitter system coupled to the squeezed vacuum reservoir and derive a master equation for this system based on the Weisskopf-Wigner approximation. In this theory, we include the effect of positions of the squeezing sources which is usually neglected in the previous studies. We apply this theory to a quasi-one-dimensional waveguide case where the squeezing in one dimension is experimentally achievable. We show that while dipole-dipole interaction induced by ordinary vacuum depends on the emitter separation, the two-photon process due to the squeezed vacuum depends on the positions of the emitters with respect to the squeezing sources. The dephasing rate, decay rate and the resonance fluorescence of the waveguide-QED in the squeezed vacuum are controllable by changing the positions of emitters. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the stationary maximum entangled NOON state for identical emitters can be reached with arbitrary initial state when the center-of-mass position of the emitters satisfies certain condition.

Quantum entanglement for two electrons in the excited states of helium-like systems

Abstract:The quantum entanglement for the two electrons in the excited states of the helium-like atom/ions is investigated using the two-electron wave functions constructed by the B-spline basis. As a measure of the spatial (electron-electron orbital) entanglement, the von Neumann entropy and linear entropy of the reduced density matrix are calculated for the 1s2s 1,3S excited states for systems with some selected Z values from Z=2 to Z=100. Results for the helium atom are compared with other available calculations. We have also investigated the entropies for these excited states when the nucleus charge is reduced from Z=2 to Z=1. At such a critical charge, all the singly-excited states of this system become unbound, and the linear entropies and the von Neumann entropies for the excited states are approaching 1/2 and 1, respectively, the limits for the entropies when one electron is bound to the nucleus, and the other being free.

Entangled states dynamics of moving two-level atoms in a thermal field bath

Abstract:We consider a two-level atom that follows a wordline of constant velocity, while interacting with a massless scalar field in a thermal state through: (i) an Unruh-DeWitt coupling, and (ii) a coupling that involves the time derivative of the field. We treat the atom as an open quantum system, with the field playing the role of the environment, and employ a master equation to describe its time evolution. We study the dynamics of entanglement between the moving atom and a (auxiliary) qubit at rest and isolated from the thermal field. We find that in the case of the standard Unruh-DeWitt coupling and for high temperatures of the environment the decay of entanglement is delayed due to the atom's motion. Instead, in the derivative coupling case, the atom's motion always causes the rapid death of entanglement.
