The Agglomeration Effect, Agglomeration Efficiency and the Change of City Size Distribution

Abstract:From the viewpoint of city agglomeration effect, the paper analyses the mechanisms of the structural change of city size distribution in China. Based on theoretical analyses, it provides the econometrics model of aggregate production function with agglomeration effect, estimates the average agglomeration effect and the average agglomeration efficiency of city ranks in China by OLS, and compares their effects to the structural change of city size distribution. Empirical analyses show, the higher the share of city size distribution is, the higher the index of average agglomeration efficiency is.
