Abstract:In this short correspondence, we mainly consider quasi-cyclic (QC) codes over finite chain rings. We study module structures and trace representations of QC codes, which lead to some lower bounds on the minimum Hamming distance of QC codes.

Abstract:This paper presents a study on the structure of 1-generator quasi-cyclic (QC) codes over the non-chain ring , where , and is a finite field of cardinality ; p is a prime. A minimal spanning set and size of these codes are determined. A sufficient condition for 1-generator QC codes over R to be free is given. BCH-type bounds on the minimum distance of free QC codes over R are also presented. Some optimal linear codes over are obtained as the Gray images of quasi-cyclic codes over R . Some characterizations of the Gray images of QC codes over R in and are done. As an application, we consider self-orthogonal subcodes of the Gray images of QC codes over R to obtain new and better quantum codes than those are available in the literature.

Abstract:Let R = Zq + uZq, where q = p s and u = 0. In this paper, some structural properties of cyclic codes and quasi-cyclic (QC) codes over the ring R are considered. A QC code of length ln with index l over R is viewed both as in the conventional row circulant form and also as an R[x]/(xn − 1)-submodule of GR(R, l)[x]/(xn − 1), where GR(R, l) is the Galois extension ring of degree l over R. A necessary and sufficient condition for cyclic codes over the ring R to be free is obtained and a BCH-type bound for them is also given. A sufficient condition for 1-generator QC codes to be R-free is given. Some distance bounds for 1-generator QC codes are also discussed. The decomposition and dual of QC codes over R are also briefly discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a class of generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes with index P over finite chain rings. Based on probabilistic arguments, we discuss asymptotic rates and relative distances of this class of codes. As a result, we show that GQC codes with index P over finite chain rings are asymptotically good.

We determine the structure of the generators and the minimal generating sets of 1-generator QC and GQC codes. Abstract:A new bound on the minimum distance of q-ary cyclic codes is proposed. It is based on the description by another cyclic code with small minimum distance. The connection to the BCH bound and the Hartmann--Tzeng (HT) bound is formulated explicitly. We show that for many cases our approach improves the HT bound. Furthermore, we refine our bound for several families of cyclic codes. We define syndromes and formulate a Key Equation that allows an efficient decoding up to our bound with the Extended Euclidean Algorithm. It turns out that lowest-code-rate cyclic codes with small minimum distances are useful for our approach. Therefore, we give a sufficient condition for binary cyclic codes of arbitrary length to have minimum distance two or three and lowest code-rate

Abstract:Recently, Jia proposed the decompositions and trace representations of quasi-twisted (QT) codes over finite fields (Finite Fields Appl 18:237–257, 2012 ). The present paper can be viewed as a complementary part of Jia’s work. We investigate some other useful properties of λ -QT codes over finite fields, including the lower Hamming distance bounds, enumerations and searching algorithm for generators. As an interesting application of λ -QT codes over finite fields, we study λ -QT codes over the finite non-chain ring 𝔽_q+v𝔽_q briefly.

Abstract:As a generalization of cyclic codes, quasi-cyclic (QC) codes contain many good linear codes. But quasi-cyclic codes studied so far are mainly limited to one generator (1-generator) QC codes. In this correspondence, 2-generator and 3-generator QC codes are studied, and many good, new QC codes are constructed from simplex codes. Some new binary QC codes or related codes, that improve the bounds on maximum minimum distance for binary linear codes are constructed. They are 5-generator QC $[93, 17, 34] $ and $[254, 23, 102]$ codes, and related $[96, 17, 36]$, $[256, 23, 104]$ codes.

A tight upper bound on the number of non-zero weights of a quasi-cyclic code

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a quasi-cyclic code of index $l(l\geq2)$. Let $G$ be the subgroup of the automorphism group of $\mathcal{C}$ generated by $\rho^l$ and the scalar multiplications of $\mathcal{C}$, where $\rho$ denotes the standard cyclic shift. In this paper, we find an explicit formula of orbits of $G$ on $\mathcal{C}\setminus \{\mathbf{0}\}$. Consequently, an explicit upper bound on the number of nonzero weights of $\mathcal{C}$ is immediately derived and a necessary and sufficient condition for codes meeting the bound is exhibited. If $\mathcal{C}$ is a one-generator quasi-cyclic code, a tighter upper bound on the number of nonzero weights of $\mathcal{C}$ is obtained by considering a larger automorphism subgroup which is generated by the multiplier, $\rho^l$ and the scalar multiplications of $\mathcal{C}$. In particular, we list some examples to show the bounds are tight. Our main result improves and generalizes some of the results in \cite{M2}.

Abstract:Constantinescu et al. [11], [12] introduced the homogeneous weight on the integer residue ring Z m which can reflect more information compared with the Hamming weight. Few homogeneous weight linear codes over finite chain rings have important applications in cryptography, lattices, modular forms and combinatorics. In this paper, we construct an infinite class of cyclic codes over the finite chain ring F pt [ω]/(ω 2 ) by the trace function, and determine their homogeneous weight distributions by applying the theory of exponential sums. In order to investigate the minimality of linear codes over finite chain rings, we firstly present the necessary and sufficient condition for linear codes over the finite chain ring F pt [ω]/(ω 2 ) to be minimal or almost minimal by the Hamming weights of codewords. Then, based on the proposed condition and few Hamming weight cyclic codes, we give several classes of minimal and almost minimal linear codes. Furthermore, we derive several families of strongly regular graphs, strongly walk-regular graphs and triple sum sets by few homogeneous weight linear codes.

Abstract:Motivated by the recent studies on $mathbb {Z}_{2}mathbb {Z}_{4}$ -additive cyclic codes, $mathbb {Z}_{2}mathbb {Z}_{2}[u]$ -cyclic codes and $mathbb {Z}_{2}mathbb {Z}_{2^{s}}$ -additive codes have been introduced by Aydogdu et al.. In this paper, we study $mathbb {Z}_{q}R$ -linear cyclic codes where $R=mathbb {Z}_{q}+umathbb {Z}_{q}, q$ is a prime number and $u^{2}=0$ . There are two major ingredients in this paper. The first is to investigate the algebraic structure of cyclic codes and their duals over ring $mathbb {Z}_{q}R$ , the spanning sets, the types and sizes of $mathbb {Z}_{q}R$ -cyclic codes and their duals as well. Based on this, the second ingredient is to present an infinite family of MDSS codes and obtain some illustrative examples of $q$ -ary cyclic codes with optimal parameters derived from the $mathbb {Z}_{q}R$ -cyclic codes.

Abstract:Quasi-polycyclic (QP for short) codes over a finite chain ring $R$ are a generalization of quasi-cyclic codes, and these codes can be viewed as an $R[x]$-submodule of $\mathcal{R}_m^{\ell}$, where $\mathcal{R}_m:= R[x]/\langle f\rangle$, and $f$ is a monic polynomial of degree $m$ over $R$. If $f$ factors uniquely into monic and coprime basic irreducibles, then their algebraic structure allow us to characterize the generator polynomials and the minimal generating sets of 1-generator QP codes as $R$-modules. In addition, we also determine the parity check polynomials for these codes by using the strong Gröbner bases. In particular, via Magma system, some quaternary codes with new parameters are derived from these 1-generator QP codes.
