Abstract:This study probes into the relationship between adolescents' explicit self-esteem,implicit self-esteem,intolerance of uncertainty and social anxiety,by surveying 191 college students with the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale,the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale,the Social Distress and Avoidance Scale,and the Self-esteem IAT.The results show the following:(1) Explicit self-esteem is negatively correlated with intolerance of uncertainty and social anxiety,and there is a significantly positive correlation between intolerance of uncertainty and social anxiety.(2) Explicit self-esteem helps directly predict intolerance of uncertainty,and implicit self-esteem moderates the prediction of intolerance of uncertainty by explicit self-esteem.(3) When intolerance of uncertainty enters the regression equation as a predictor,explicit self-esteem × implicit self-esteem shows no significant prediction of social anxiety,compared to the significant prediction of social anxiety by intolerance of uncertainty.This shows that explicit self-esteem × implicit self-esteem predicts social anxiety through the agency of intolerance of uncertainty.
