Abstract:We obtain sample-path large deviations for a class of one-dimensional stochastic differential equations with bounded drifts and heavy-tailed Lévy processes. These heavy-tailed Lévy processes do not satisfy the exponential integrability condition, which is a common restriction on the Lévy processes in existing large deviations contents. We further prove that the solution processes satisfy a weak large deviation principle with a discrete rate function and logarithmic speed. We also show that they do not satisfy the full large deviation principle.

Abstract:The Freidlin–Wentzell's large deviation principle is established for a class of multi-scale stochastic models involving slow–fast components, where the slow component has general monotone drift and the fast component has dissipative drift driven by multiplicative noise. Our result is applicable to various slow–fast stochastic dynamical systems such as stochastic porous media equations, stochastic p -Laplace equations and stochastic reaction–diffusion equations. The weak convergence method and the technique of time discretization are used to establish the Laplace principle (equivalently, large deviation principle) under the multi-scale framework.

Abstract:The sub-linear expectation space is a nonlinear expectation space having advantages of modeling the uncertainty of probability and distribution. In the sub-linear expectation space, we use capacity and sub-linear expectation to replace probability and expectation of classical probability theory. In this paper, the method of selecting subsequence is used to prove Marcinkiewicz’s strong law of large numbers under sub-linear expectation space. This result is a natural extension of the classical Marcinkiewicz’s strong law of large numbers to the case where the expectation is nonlinear. In addition, this paper also gives a theorem about convergence of a random series.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a class of reflected stochastic differential equations for which the constraint is not on the paths of the solution but on its law. We establish a small noise large deviation principle, a large deviation for short time, the Malliavin derivative and the smoothness of the density. To prove large deviation principles, a sufficient condition for the weak convergence method, which is suitable for Mckean–Vlasov stochastic differential equation, plays an important role.

First of all, by the weak convergence approach we establish the Freidlin-Wentzell uniform large deviation principle and the Dembo-Zeitouni uniform large deviation principle for these equations. Then based on these results, by proving upper and lower bounds large deviations for invariant measures of these equations are presented.

Stochastic Processes and their Applications

Abstract:In this paper, large deviations and their connections with several other fundamental topics are investigated for absorbing Markov chains. A variational representation for the Dirichlet principal eigenvalues is given by the large deviation approach. Kingman’s decay parameters and mean ratio quasi-stationary distributions of the chains are also characterized by the large deviation rate function. As an application of these results, we interpret the “stationarity” of mean ratio quasi-stationary distributions via a concrete example. An application to quasi-ergodicity is also discussed.

Abstract:In this work, we establish, for a strong Feller process, the large deviation principle for the occupation measure conditioned not to exit a given subregion. The rate function vanishes only at a unique measure, which is the so-called quasi-ergodic distribution of the process in this subregion. In addition, we show that the rate function is the Dirichlet form in the particular case when the process is reversible. We apply our results to several stochastic processes such as the solutions of elliptic stochastic differential equations driven by a rotationally invariant $\alpha$-stable process, the kinetic Langevin process, and the overdamped Langevin process driven by a Brownian motion.

Abstract:We establish a Freidlin-Wentzell type large deviation principle (LDP) for a class of stochastic partial differential equations with locally monotone coefficients driven by Lévy noise. Our results essentially improve a recent work on this topic (Bernoulli, 2018) by the second named author of this paper and his collaborator, because we drop the compactness embedding assumptions, and we also make the conditions for the coefficient of the noise term more specific and weaker. To obtain our results, we utilize an improved sufficient criteria of Budhiraja, Chen, Dupuis, and Maroulas for functions of Poisson random measures, and the techniques introduced by the first and second named authors of this paper in \cite{WZSIAM} play important roles.

Abstract:We prove a large deviation principle for stochastic differential equations driven by semimartingales, with additive controls. Conditions are given in terms of characteristics of driven semimartingales, so that if the noise-control pairs satisfy a large deviation principle with some good rate function, so do the solution processes. There is no joint exponential tightness assumption for noise-control-solution triplets and no uniform exponential tightness assumption for noise.

Abstract:This paper deals with large deviations and related problems for Markov chains with countable state spaces. By comparing with some dominating chains that satisfy the large deviation principle, we weaken the requirement for irreducibility to get the large deviation principle. In this way we can also characterize the stationary distributions of the chains via the large deviation rate functions. In particular, we prove that any finite Markov chain satisfies the large deviation principle. The global and local minimums ofthe rate function are shown to be closely related to the principal eigenvalues and the corresponding left and right eigenfunctions of the transition matrix.

Abstract:The asymptotic analysis of a class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with fully local monotone coefficients covering a large variety of physical systems, a wide class of quasilinear SPDEs and a good number of fluid dynamic models is carried out in this work. The aim of this work is to develop the large deviation theory for small Gaussian as well as Poisson noise perturbations of the above class of SPDEs. We establish a Wentzell-Freidlin type large deviation principle for the strong solution to such SPDEs perturbed by a multiplicative Lévy noise in a suitable Polish space using a variational representation (based on a weak convergence approach) for nonnegative functionals of general Poisson random measures and Brownian motions. The well-posedness of an associated deterministic control problem is established by exploiting pseudo-monotonicity arguments and the stochastic counterpart is obtained by an application of Girsanov's theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (MVSDEs) driven by Lévy noise. By identifying the right equations satisfied by the solutions of the MVSDEs with shifted driving Lévy noise, we build up a framework to fully apply the weak convergence method to establish large and moderate deviation principles for MVSDEs. In the case of ordinary SDEs, the rate function is calculated by using the solutions of the corresponding skeleton equations simply replacing the noise by the elements of the Cameron-Martin space. It turns out that the correct rate function for MVSDEs is defined through the solutions of skeleton equations replacing the noise by smooth functions and replacing the distributions involved in the equation by the distribution of the solution of the corresponding deterministic equation (without the noise). This is somehow surprising. With this approach, we obtain large and moderate deviation principles for much wider classes of MVSDEs in comparison with the existing literature see Dos Reis et al. (Ann. Appl. Probab. 29, 1487–1540, 2019).

Abstract:In this work we establish a Freidlin-Wentzell type large deviation principle for stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation, with either focusing or defocusing nonlinearity, driven by nonlinear multiplicative Lévy noise in the Marcus canonical form. This task is challenging in the current setting due to the presence of the power-type nonlinear term, the lack of regularization effect of the Schrödinger operator and the absence of compactness of embeddings. To overcome these difficulties, we employ a regularization procedure based on Yosida approximations and implement techniques such as time discretization, cut-off arguments, and relative entropy estimates of sequences of probability measures. Our innovative approach circumvents the need for compactness conditions, distinguishing our work from previous studies.
