Abstract:In this paper, we present and analyze an interference avoidance scheme for OFDM cognitive radio systems. From an active suppression point of view, it effectively prevents the negative effect of intercarrier interference that a cognitive radio may inflict on primary transmission due to frequency offset. At the same time, it ensures bandwidth efficiency of secondary transmission. Based on the least square error criterion, it is robust to frequency offset estimation error and has a low computational complexity. Furthermore, its generalized form and algorithm can simply adapt to different frequency offsets and be extended to multiple users' case. Simulation results show the enhanced performance of our proposed scheme, which greatly reduces the interference power in comparison with the passive tone null scheme.
Improved Iterative Receiver for Co-channel Interference Suppression in MIMO-OFDM Systems

Abstract:Co-channel interference (CCI) is becoming a challenging factor that causes performance degradation in modern communication systems. The receiver equipped with multiple antennas can suppress such interference by exploiting spatial correlation. However, it is difficult to estimate the spatial covariance matrix (SCM) of CCI accurately with limited number of known symbols. To address this problem, this paper first proposes an improved SCM estimation method by shrinking the variance of eigenvalues. In addition, based on breadth-first tree search schemes and improved channel updating, a low complexity iterative detector is presented with channel preprocessing, which not only considers the existence of CCI but also reduces the computational complexity in terms of visited nodes in a search tree. Furthermore, by scaling the extrinsic soft information which is fed back to the input of detector, the detection performance loss due to max-log approximation is compensated. Simulation results show that the proposed iterative receiver provides improved signal to interference ratio (SIR) gain with low complexity, which demonstrate the proposed scheme is attractive in practical implementation.

Abstract:OFDM(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) is very sensitive to frequency offset originating from the Doppler frequency offset and the frequency difference between transmitter and receiver,resulting in severe ICI(inter-carrier interference) and performance degradation. In order to solve this problem,an algorithm based on subspace method and utilizing the VC (virtual carrier) is proposed. The adaptive realization of this algorithm is studied. Simulation shows that the estimated values by the algorithm proposed matches the set values very well.

Abstract:In order to overcome the fast fading channels which are difficult to be estimated and the considerable Inter Carrier Interference(ICI) in highly mobile Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) system,an iterative channel estimation and ICI mitigation algorithm are proposed.It uses feedback information from the channel decoder.Discrete Fourier Transform(DFT) based channel estimation is employed and linear approximation is used to mintage the ICI with low complexity.Simulation results show that the method allows reliable reception with normalized Doppler frequency at 10%~15%.

Abstract:Synchronization is one of the most crucial techniques in OFDM.This paper proposes a novel carrier frequency offset estimation algorithm for interleaved OFDMA uplink.In interleaved OFDMA uplink,each user's signal has a special periodic structure within an OFDMA block.By utilizing the signal structure characteristic and novel subspace-based method,multiusers carrier frequency offsets can be obtained This algorithm is proposed by using total least squares(TLS) method instead of eigenvalue decomposition to obtain the noise subspace.The algorithm has a low computational complexity in comparison with the multiple signal classification(MUSIC) algorithm and the performance of the algorithm compares well with the MUSIC algorithm.Simulation results show that the method is effective.

Abstract:For orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems, the frequency offset caused by time-varying channels induces the loss of orthogonality among subcarriers, and results in Intercarrier Interference (ICI), which seriously degrades the performance of OFDM systems. A novel iterative detection based on parallel interference cancellation is proposed in this paper. The received signal is first processed with MMSE detector, and the decision estimated vector is obtained, then the ICI item can be reconstructed. With the principle of maximize the minimum signal-to-interference and noise power ratio, the strongest interference item will be replaced. The more iterations is carried out, the more the time diversity over time-varying multipath channels will be exploited. Simulation results show that this iterative detector improves the BER performance significantly. When the normalized Doppler frequency offset is comparably large, the BER of the proposed detection can be more improved. Compared with existing ICI mitigation scheme, the proposed scheme has lower computational complexity and better convergence stability.

Abstract:In orthogonal frequency-division multiplex access (OFDMA) downlink systems, the carrier-frequency offset (CFO) between the multiple transceivers introduces inter-carrier interference (ICI). In this letter, we propose an iterative precoding scheme to suppress the ICI due to CFO. This scheme is applied at the transmitter, and can jointly cancel the ICI for all the receivers. Moreover, by the studies of the convergence behavior of the iterations, a sufficient condition for the convergence is presented. The theoretical analysis and simulation results both show that this iterative scheme is equivalent to the zero-forcing (ZF) scheme in function, but with much lower complexity.

Abstract:In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm of co-channel interference (CCI) mitigation for uplink multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems by exploiting the smoothness of OFDM channels in the frequency domain. Given the pilot sequences being synchronized, the proposed algorithm computes the time-domain equalizer by solving a high-dimensional block Toeplitz system, requiring no explicit estimation of the channels and interference-plus-noise covariance matrices (ICMs). We also present a technique to determine the order of equalizer, which is adaptive to the length of the time-domain finite-impulse-response (FIR) channel. The numerical experiments conducted on a fifth-generation (5G) new radio (NR) simulator show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art schemes with even lower computational complexity.

Abstract:Recently, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been considered as an irreplaceable and reliable technology. However, it is vulnerable to the frequency offsets, which may potentially cause intercarrier interference (ICI). Hence, in this paper, a general and efficient ICI self-cancellation scheme is proposed toward higher transmission efficiency. The scheme maps the data symbols to different subcarrier positions with the aid of scrambler or interleaver, so more adjacent subcarriers contribute to interference cancellation. The simulation in comparison to standard OFDM system demonstrates that the advantages offered by the presented scheme in the case of frequency offsets with no compromise in the attainable bit error rate (BER) performance.

Abstract:This paper provides a new method of iterative soft detection receiver to suppress the Inter-Cell Interference(ICI) in the next generation communication Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) system.With the combination of the Interleave-Division Multiple Access(IDMA) technology,the new Elementary Signal Estimator(ESE) in the receiver suppresses the interference from neighbor cell.Besides,the soft detection technology in the receiver can achieve the system with high-order modulation signal by using iterative detection scheme.Monte Carlo simulation results show the proposed receiver obtains the good BER performance in both AWGN and Rayleigh channel for 16QAM modulation scheme.

Abstract:For orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems, the frequency offsets in mobile radio channels distort the orthogonality between subcarriers, resulting in inter-carrier interference (ICI), which seriously degrades the performance of systems. Based on ICI coefficients analysis and reasonable estimation of the frequency offset, the paper presents a novel decorrelation interference cancellation method with the use of frequency-domain equalization at the receiver. Without the iterative operation on the weighting coefficients and the inverse operation on the matrix, ICI can be eliminated by directly using the cyclic embedding algorithm of the Toeplitz matrix in terms of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT). Compared with conventional frequency-domain equalization, this new scheme has better convergence reliability and lower computational complexity. Simulation results show that an OFDM system using the proposed ICI cancellation scheme can effectively eliminate ICI, have significant performance improvement and mitigate the effects of OFDM communication systems. The scheme works very well in the multipath radio channel and high-speed mobile environment.

Abstract:A scheme that jointly estimates carrier frequency offset and channel is proposed for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. In the proposed scheme, the carrier frequency offset (CFO) and the channel state information (CSI) are first estimated by an minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimator and an maximum likelihood (ML) estimator, respectively. By exchanging the estimation information between these two estimators, the final estimation of CFO and CSI is then obtained by an iterative method. In the iterative process, the effect of imperfect CSI is considered. It can improve the estimation precision for a shorter preamble and accelerate the iterative convergence rate. To reduce the complexity of the proposed scheme, a procedure is adopted to eliminate the inverse operation of covariance matrix that is recalculated at each iteration. In addition, a sufficient condition for the convergence of the proposed method is deduced. The numerical simulation results show that the BER performance of our scheme is better than that of joint MLE for a shorter preamble and is comparable to that of joint MLE for a longer preamble. Furthermore, the average iterative time of our method is reduced by half as compared to the MLE methods without considering the effect of imperfect CSI.

Abstract:Coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (COFDM) broadband systems may coexist with other wireless systems and suffer from co-channel interferece (CCI). CCI severely affects soft decision decoding and degrades the performance of COFDM systems. In this paper, we propose a novel CCI removal scheme which is adaptive and low in implementation cost. The proposed scheme has three important features: 1) It can detect the pilots affected by CCI and amend the incorrect channel frequency responses (CFRs); 2) It calculates soft decisions by only using the amended CFRs; 3) It can detect the soft decisions affected by CCI and erase them. We compare the proposed scheme with the conventional one presented in [1]. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme eliminates CCI more effectively than the conventional one. Moreover, the proposed scheme requires lower computation complexity and memory(1).

Abstract:Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has recently been used widely in wireless communication systems. OFDM is very effective in combating intersymbol interference and can achieve high data rate in frequency selective channel. For OFDM communication systems, the frequency offsets in mobile radio channels distort the orthogonality between subcarriers resulting in Inter Carrier Interference (ICI). ICI causes power leakage among subcarriers thus degrading the system performance. A wellknown problem of OFDM is its sensitivity to frequency offset between the transmitted and received carrier frequencies. There are two deleterious effects caused by frequency offset one is the reduction of signal amplitude in the output of the filters matched to each of the carriers and the second is introduction of ICI from the other carriers. This research work investigates three effective methods for combating the effects of ICI: ICI Self Cancellation (SC), Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimation, and Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) method. These three methods are compared in terms of bit error rate performance and bandwidth efficiency. Through simulations, it is shown that the three techniques are effective in mitigating the modulation schemes, the ML and EKF methods perform better than the SC method.

An Adaptive Anti-narrowband Jamming Receiver for CI/OFDM System

Abstract:To overcome the inherent shortcomings of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, a so-called carrier interferometry OFDM (CI/OFDM) system has been proposed. In CI/OFDM system, data symbols are spreading over all OFDM subcarriers through CI coding so that better frequency diversity gain and lower peak to average power ratio (PAPR) can be obtained. In this paper, we investigated the anti-narrowband jamming performance of CI/OFDM system. We analyzed the post-detection signal-to-jamming plus noise ratio (SJNR) of two kinds of CI/OFDM receiver schemes, which are differentiated each other based on whether the jamming subcarriers are discarded. By comparing their performance in different jamming scenarios, we concluded that each scheme can only work well under specified suitable jamming scenario, in which the one outperforms the other. According to this observation, we further propose an adaptive anti-narrowband jamming CI/OFDM receiver, which adjusts the detection scheme according to the jamming power and bandwidth, to match the corresponding jamming scenarios. Simulation results are provided to validate our scheme.

Abstract:The paper studies an efficient ICI cancellation method termed segment equalization scheme. According to the time-variant nature of the mobile channel, the received OFDM signal and channel impulse response (CIR) are divided into many segments before FFT, then all the segments are equalized in the frequency-domain, the results are summed to demodulate the OFDM signal. Simulations and performance analysis show that an OFDM system using the proposed segment equalization can effectively reduce the ICI caused by the frequency offset and large Doppler frequencies in mobile radio channels.

Abstract:In this paper, the issue of carrier frequency offset compensation in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) uplink system is investigated. To mitigate the effect of the multiple access interference (MAI) caused by the carrier frequency offset (CFO) of different users, a new iterative compensation algorithm is proposed. However, this scheme has unaffordable complexity. To tackle this problem, an efficient iterative implementation is developed in this paper based on a banded interference matrix approximation. Simulations illustrate that the proposed algorithm obtains good performance, at the same time has much lower computational complexity.

Abstract:High-mobility orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)systems suffered severe inter-carrier interference(ICI)from Doppler spreading.On the basis of the characteristics of wireless propagation in practical scenarios,a method which employed the WINNER Ⅱ channel model to represent the practical wireless channel and an antenna array as the receiver to eliminate ICI in space-domain was proposed.The direction of arrival estimation algorithm and the beamforming network were used to separate the received signals in space-domain.Multi-beam diversity gain was obtained finally by means of combining the signals which have been compensated for Doppler frequency shifts(DFS)respectively.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method not only effectively reduces ICI and the error floors,but also obtains a 5～7 dB signal-to-interference gain over systems without use of the proposed method.
