Abstract:Objective To assess the relationship between enhanced intensity(EI) and microvessel density(MVD) of gastric carcinoma using double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography(DCUS).Methods Fifty-nine patients with gastric cancer proved by pathology underwent preoperative DCUS examination and were enrolled in this study.The peak intensity(PI)and basal intensity(BI) of gastric carcinoma and normal gastric mucosa tissues were measured.EI(PI-BI),and MVD was calculated in the resected gastric carcinoma specimens and normal gastric mucosa tissues via immunohistochemical staining using anti-factor CD34.Results The EI value in gastric carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in normal gastric mucosa(P<0.001).MVD value in gastric carcinoma tissues was remarkably higher than that in normal gastric mucosa(P<0.001).There was a strong positive linear correlation between EI and MVD in gastric carcinoma(r=0.921,P<0.001).Conclusions EI has a strong positive linear correlation with MVD,and may be considered as a new index in assessing angiogenesis and biological behavior of gastric carcinoma.
