Abstract:Tests results on a model plant for gasification of pulverized coal using circulated fluid bed technology in commercial scale are presented.Use of the fluidization technology,with steam oxygen as agent for gasification of pulverized coal,has proved to be successful in dealing with dust,ash discharge,valving,erosion of refractory and waste heat recovery at elevated temperatures and operating at steady conditions.The coal gas produced can meet the requirements for ammonia production.Compared to fixed bed gasification process,the cost per ton ammonia can be reduced by 172 Yuan RMB,resulting in novel economic and environmental returns.The suggestions for improvement are made.

Abstract:This paper discribes test results of an industrial demonstration plant using ash agglomeration fluid bed for gasification of pulverized coal.Use of the fluidization technology in the presence of oxygen steam mixture as a promotor in the engineering that deals well with establishment of fluid bed,dedusting and slag discharge at elevated temperatures,application of high temperature resistant valves and abrasion resistant refractories,and recovery of waste heat.Compared with fixed bed gasification process,the cost per tone of ammonia can be reduced by 172 Yuan,resulting in better economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract:Predictive functional control of outlet temperature in delayed coking furnace is designed with transparent control structure.Feedforward compensation is used to eliminate the influence of the measurable disturbance on outlet temperature.The results of practical industry application show that the designed advanced control system has more excellent tracing ability and strong robust performance than conventional PID controller for outlet temperature control in delayed coking furnace.

Abstract:Based on the 11 lumped dynamic model of reaction and by introducing submodels of the composition of feedstock in radiation section, operating pressure, material entrainment, material vaporization, residence time and temperature variation etc. , a dynamic model of reaction for delayed coking unit was established. With this model, the product distribution under different conditions can be predicted. The model has been proven in operation and successfully applied in the open loop guidance and off-line optimization for material balance in the 0.5 Mt/yr delayed coking unit of Shanghai Refinery.

Abstract:The present paper concerns itself with a computer-aided calibration method of flow meters in Shell coal gasification process, aiming to solve the problems caused by manual calibration. In this method, the data lists for calibration are sampled and partitioned automatically. Then the steady zones of coal flow are searched and their reliability is estimated through related algorithms. After that, the method provides the users with three types of data regression, including linear regression, quadratic regression and cubic regression, meantime the criteria for selection is attached. The calibration software has been developed according to the method we proposed, which can avoid the fault caused by the former calibration method effectively. Furthermore, it can enhance the flexibility of data processing, and thus significantly improve the speed and accuracy of calibration.

Abstract:First principle modeling is a crucial step before implementing model-based control and optimization of large-scale complex process systems. Due to lack of prior knowledge of process devices and technologies, the analysis of first principle models first requires tackling the calibration problem of uncertain parameters, especially when the model parameters change with operating conditions of the system. To ensure the extrapolation accuracy of model over the global operating domain and meanwhile reduce the experimental cost of condition testing, this work presents a global model calibration scheme based on an adaptive experimental design. The experimental conditions are selected by criteria of sampling density, local nonlinearity and parameter uncertainty to perform parameter estimation. To prove the effectiveness of our scheme, the algorithm in this work is applied to the case of high-temperature gas-cooled reactor pebble-bed module nuclear power plant and compared with some conventional experimental designs.

Abstract:The laboratory method used for coal calorific value measurement has a significant hysteresis. In this paper, an on-site measurement method of coal calorific value based on high power laser rapid ignition is proposed. The effects of oxygen transverse passage velocity, thermal insulation crucible bracket and coal samples on the measurement time, unburned rate and calorific value measurement error are gradually investigated. The experimental results shows that the measurement error of calorific value is within 2% and unburned rate is within 2% at the oxygen transverse passage velocity of 120 mm/s of Huainan bituminous coal. Then the utilization of porous thermal insulation crucible bracket has shown a good performance in heat dissipation to shorten the measurement time without increasing the unburned rate. Then, the effects of coal sample thicknesses, species and particle sizes on calorific value measurement are investigated. Results show that under the coal thickness from 4.2 to 5.4 mm, the calorific value measurement error is within 3%, and the unburned rate is within 2% of Huainan antiminous coal. Finally, the results shows that the method has a good performance on different coal species and particle sizes which the calorific value measurement error is within 5%. This research quantifies the effects of the experimental condition parameters on the measurement of coal calorific value based on laser ignition, which lays the foundation for the subsequent development of online coal calorific value meter.

For the purpose of investigating the ability of unit's processing and its performance, with the condition of the handling capacity of the unit is at 4800 t d-1, several properties have been checked, including the properties of feedstock oil, reduced crude, and vacuum residue.

Abstract:Directing against the complex process in combustion,heat transfer,and flow,a decoupling control taking the coal quantity as the main to regulate the pressure in boiler drum and using the air quantity to control the bed temperature has been put forward,and the coordinated control strategy with prediction specialist control and with rapid correct circuit of variable amplitude and variable time being adopted.The application of said control on one CFB boiler of 135 MW unit shows that the main parameters of said unit,such as the actual load command of unit,the actual load of unit,the pressure before unit,the pressure command before unit,the pressure in boiler drum,the total fuel quantity,and the total air quantity etc.,all are more stable during the time of static and dynamic state.The problems of non-linearity,multi-variable,and time-varying behavior,and large retardation of objects with complex process having been better resolved.
Coordinated Optimization Control of Flue Gas Temperature for Improving Reaction Efficiency of Catalyst

Abstract:Different control programs of flue gas temperature and selective catalytic reduction(SCR) economizer were designed and studied to reduce ammonia slip rate and relieve air preheater fouling problem. A 300MW unit was selected for the study. The boiler thermal calculation results indicate that through the joint arrangements between the high temperature flue gas bypass and SCR economizer, the SCR inlet flue gas temperature could be regulated to nearly 340 ℃ under the lowest flue gas temperature condition with maximum 20% bypass flue gas ratio and 40% the original economizer area of SCR economizer. While, under the highest flue gas temperature condition, the SCR inlet flue gas temperature would not be regulated, and the exhaust gas temperature could be decreased 6.1 ℃. In this way, the highly efficient operation of catalyst at 340 ℃ or more of SCR inlet flue gas temperature and variation of exhaust gas temperature in much smaller and more optimal range are almost completely achieved under all operating conditions. If the annual average load was 75%, the average exhaust gas temperature would approximately be dropped 5.2 ℃ and the standard coal consumption decreased was nearly 1 g/(kW?h).

Abstract:Coke deposition problem of the delayed coking furnace is one of the important factors that affect continual and safe produc- tion of the delayed coking process.In this paper,a new method was developed to dynamically simulate coke deposition process for the delayed coking furnace,by embedding a coke deposition model into the dynamic furnace operation of HYSYS.Therefore,with the sat- isfaction of constraints on the production safety and appropriate coking rate,the advanced control and online optimization could be used to maximize the benefits of the delayed eoking production and reduce the cost.Compared with the practical processing data of a real de- layed coking furnace,the simulation results based on the proposed method demonstrated its feasibility and validity.
Refinery Planning Optimization Integrated with Quality Tracking and Constraints

Abstract:To address the issues of heavier crude oil and stringent product quality regulation,this paper presents a refinery planning model that integrates physical properties tracking and quality constraints.The proposed model selected crude oil's key property of true boiling point curve as classification criteria and applied a K-means clustering to it,introduced swing cut to achieve a higher yield of valuable fractions,tracked and restricted petroleum products' sulfur content as well as other key properties,and later proposed a universal solving strategy to deal with highly nonlinear quality constraints.The model was illustrated by representative case studies,the results showed that refinery planning optimization combined with quality tracking and constraints could satisfy product quality requirement while achieving a maximum refinery profit.

Abstract:Timely monitoring of the calorific value of coal is beneficial to combustion regulation during the operation of coal-fired power plants. An in-situ measurement system applied to power plants was proposed. The related model was described in detail and validated through bomb calorimetry. The influences of multiple model parameters with different thermometer and flowmeter accuracy on measurement time and uncertainty have been analyzed. Measurement properties of the bomb calorimeter and this improved calorimeter were compared at different conditions. The results reveal the increases in the gas volume flow rate and the water mass flow rate have a positive effect on measurement time while coal mass and the mass ratio of water in two cylinders show a negative effect. Relative standard uncertainties are reduced to some extent with all of these factors. It is evidenced the proposed calorimeter has the potential for fuel calorific value monitor for power plant operation optimization.
Using Process Simulation Technology to Control Dry Gas Quality for Delayed Coking Units

Abstract:Taking the absorption-stabilization section of Sinopec Qingdao Refining and Chemical Company′s 2.5Mt/a delayed coking unit as the object of study,researchers simulated the control of quality of coking dry gas by establishing an absorption-stabilization section model based on rating data using Aspen process simulation software and studied the effect of changing the flow rate,temperature and properties of supplementary absorber on the quality of dry gas.Based on the simulation results,these researchers optimized the operating conditions of the unit by maintaining the flow rate of supplementary absorber at 105t/h.When the temperatures at the bottom of the desorption tower and the stabilization tower are controlled at 145℃ and 198℃,the content of C3 and above in dry gas can be maintained within the range from 1.8% to 2.0%.LPG output will rise by 6.8t per day and revenue will increase by more than six million yuan per year.The unit′s energy consumption will drop by 1.02kgEo/t.Further study suggests that reducing the temperature of supplementary absorber can effectively improve the quality of dry gas.However,limited by the temperature of circulating water,the temperature of supplementary absorber cannot be reduced further.To resolve this problem,these researchers simulated the use of cryogenic technology.After the supplementary absorber and the primary and secondary intermediate refluxes are cryogenically cooled to 20℃,the content of C3 and above components can be reduced to below 1% and the unit′s energy consumption can be reduced further,laying the groundwork for the further optimization of the unit.
Development of an Online Dual-Cylinder Open Calorimeter for Coal Powder：An Experimental Investigation

Abstract:This paper introduces a dual-cylinder open calorimeter in which the dual-cylinder structure functions as the combustion chamber shell to preheat the oxygen and isolate the external environment. Designed for swift online measurement, it utilizes a stepper actuator to introduce the coal sample into the calorimeter from the bottom, achieving efficient combustion at atmospheric pressure. According to the heat transfer process of the calorimeter, we developed a calorimetric model and identified the moment when the first derivative of the fin temperature reaches its minimum as the measurement endpoint. The calorimetric model was calibrated with the Chinese national standard calorific value coal. Subsequently, we conducted experiments to analyze the effects of oxygen supply flow rate on CO2 and CO generation curves in the flue gas, unburned rate of coal, and measurement time. The results indicated a significant reduction in CO generation, achieving a burnout rate of 96 % for the thermal coal species, and effectively shortening the measurement duration at the oxygen supply flow rate of 7.50 L/min. Finally, the verification analysis of 8 thermal coal species with the mass of about 1 g demonstrates that the calorimeter achieves the measurement time within 15 min and error within 5 %. The proposed calorimeter shows promising potential for practical applications in online measurement of the coal calorific value.
Online Estimation of Coke in A Circulating Fluidized Bed Based on Acoustic Emission Sensors and Multivariate Calibration

Abstract:The aim of this work was to investigate the application of an acoustic monitoring system for production scale circulating fluidized bed processes. The relationship between acoustic signals and the coke amount deposited on the catalysts was investigated on both lab scale and production scale reactors. By using Power spectrum density analysis, the relationship between the coke amount and the frequency shift of the characteristic peak of acoustic signals was found to be linear. In addition, a model to detect the coke amount on catalyst was established based on partial least-squares regression. Comparing the model results with experimental data, the amount of deposited coke is determined with a correlation coefficient 0.947 and a root mean squares error of cross validation 0.948%, which means that this model is accurate and capable of monitoring the coke amount on catalyst. Furthermore, the results of the preliminary industrial tests are considered to be promising. This work provides valuable insights into the online monitoring of coke amounts in circulating fluidized beds based on an AE technique.

Abstract:The issues of feedstocks, product markets, and environmental emissions have continuously proposed a number of challenges for industrial evaluation of fresh fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst before its application in commercial units. In this work, a convenient method was proposed by comparing with the existing commercial equilibrium catalyst. A series of laboratory experiments for steam treatments and microactivity tests were established to collect reliable data, and the standalone catalyst or co-catalysts were assessed to show the evaluation process and the predicted unit performance. The results had deviation, but a consistent yield distribution than that of a commercial equilibrium catalyst. These evaluations and predictions would provide us with not only the view of hydrothermal stability and yield distribution at the unit level, but also the economic potential for fresh catalyst based on the existing industrial catalyst, which will provide refiners with industrial basis for further decisions.

Abstract:Taking EQD210N—20 CNG prototype engine as an example, the internal control strategy of electronic control system was analyzed by referring to ECU relative materials of a certain company under the condition of burning the HCNG whose hydrogen volume fraction was 20 percent. Then ECU was calibrated under steady conditions combining with the characteristic of HCNG. The control strategy of different air-fuel ratios was used to calibrate the electronic control system under full load speed characteristic and other conditions. Finally, the calibrated HCNG engine could arrive to China Ⅲ stage emission standard and its power performance and fuel economy were equivalent to those of CNG prototype engine.
