Abstract:Rough set theory and Formal concept analysis have much in common, in terms of both goals and methodologies. The combination of rough set theory, and formal concept analysis provides new approaches for data analysis. The notions of the object oriented concepts and the attribute oriented concepts are formed by introduced formal concept and formal concept lattice into rough set theory. In this paper, the dependence spaces are constructed according to these two concept lattices. Applying to the congruences on the dependence space, the equivalent classes of the set of attributes can be got and then a closed set is also obtained. And a new approach is discussed by using the closed set to construct formal concepts.

Abstract:In formal concept analysis,concept lattice as the fundamental data structure can be constructed from a formal context. Howext. it is reqinred that the relation between object and feature in the formal context should be certain. For uncertain relation.this paper uses the thoughts of upper and lower approximation in rough set theory to deal with it,and gives out the corresponding definitions of missing value context and rough formal concept. Based on them,this paper employs rough concept lattice, formed by rough formal concepts and partial order relation on them.as the basic data structure for concept analysis and knowledge acquisition. Then a theroem is presented to describe the method of extracting rules from constructed rough formal concept lattice,and the semantic interpretation of discovered rules is explained.

Abstract:Formal concept analysis and rough set theory are two important tools in knowledge representation and knowledge discovery in relational information systems. The purpose of this paper is to study rough set approximations within formal concept analysis in fuzzy environment. Properties of existent fuzzy concept lattices derived from an adjoint pair of operations are first reviewed and examined. Based on both lattice-theoretic and fuzzy set-theoretic operators, two new pairs of rough fuzzy set approximations within fuzzy formal contexts are then defined. Finally, properties of the rough fuzzy set approximation operators are presented in detail.

Abstract:In this paper we present a novel approach to the concept approximations in concept lattice. Using the similar idea of rough set theory and unique properties of concept lattice, upper and lower approximations of any object or attribute set can be found by exploiting meet-(union-)irreducible elements in concept lattice, the approximations can be performed on the fly. We show that our approach is more natural and effective than existing approach.

Abstract:Traditionally, Formal Concept Analysis theory defines formal concept via a Galois connection formed by two derivation operators. To extend it, this paper gets started by defining formal concept in another form, which is equivalent to its classical definition. Introducing a non-negative parameter into this new definition gives rise to definition of the so-called “generalized concept” in this paper. Formal concept is a special case of the generalized concept with 1 as the parameter value. When the parameter is set to 0, the generalized concept lattice is isomorphic to the power-set lattice of the attribute set. As the parameter is larger than 1, the generalized concept lattice is a supremum-subsemilattice of the formal concept lattice. A simple algorithm is also developed for building φ-generalized concept lattice of φ>1 from the formal concept lattice.

Abstract:This paper generalizes the Pawlak rough set method to a completely distributive lattice. Theconcept of a rough set has many applications in data mining. The approximation operators on a completelydistributive lattice are studied, the rough class on a completely distributive lattice is defined and theexpressional theorems of the rough class are proven. These expressional theorems are used to prove that thecollection of all rough classes is an atomic completely distributive lattice.

Abstract:Covering-based rough set theory is a useful tool to deal with inexact, uncertain, or vague knowledge in information systems. Geometric lattice has been widely used in diverse fields, especially search algorithm design, which plays an important role in covering reductions. In this paper, we construct three geometric lattice structures of covering-based rough sets through matroids and study the relationship among them. First, a geometric lattice structure of covering-based rough sets is established through the transversal matroid induced by a covering. Then its characteristics, such as atoms, modular elements, and modular pairs, are studied. We also construct a one-to-one correspondence between this type of geometric lattices and transversal matroids in the context of covering-based rough sets. Second, we present three sufficient and necessary conditions for two types of covering upper approximation operators to be closure operators of matroids. We also represent two types of matroids through closure axioms and then obtain two geometric lattice structures of covering-based rough sets. Third, we study the relationship among these three geometric lattice structures. Some core concepts such as reducible elements in covering-based rough sets are investigated with geometric lattices. In a word, this work points out an interesting view, namely, geometric lattice, to study covering-based rough sets.

Abstract:Based on the theory of concept lattice and fuzzy concept lattice, a mathematical model of a concept granular computing system is established, and relationships of the system and concept lattices. various variable threshold concept lattices and fuzzy concept lattices are then investigated. For this system, concept granules, sufficiency information granules and necessity information granules which are used to express different relations between a set of objects and a set of attributes are proposed. Approaches to construct sufficiency and necessity information granules are also shown. Sonic iterative algorithms to form concept granules are proposed. It is proved that the concept granules obtained by the iterative algorithms are the sub-concept granules or sup-concept granules under some conditions for this system. Finally, we give rough approximations based on fuzzy concept lattice in formal concept analysis.

Abstract:Concept Lattice is a powerful tool for data analysis, which reveals the generalization/specification relationships between concepts in a vivid and concise way by a Hasse diagram. A concept lattice is built from data sets through the process of concept clustering. The concept lattice can be used in many other machine learning tasks, such as classification or association rule mining. This paper first introduced basic notions of concept lattice, then discussed several lattice construction methods and corresponding rule extraction algorithms and applications. Several concept lattice based systems were outlined briefly. This paper also describes topics such as lattice pruning and the relationship between concept lattice and rough sets.

Abstract:As the first part of the treatise on A General Theory of Concept Lattice (I-V), this work develops the general concept lattice for the problem concerning categorization of objects according to their properties. Unlike the conventional approaches, such as the formal concept lattice and the rough set lattice, the general concept lattice is designed to adhere to the general principle that the information content should be invariant regardless how the variables/parameters are presented. Here, one will explicitly demonstrate the existence of such a construction by a sequence of fulfillment compatible with the conventional lattice structure. The general concept lattice promises to be a comprehensive categorization for all the distinctive object classes according to whatever properties they are equipped with. It will be shown that one can always regain the formal concept lattice and rough set lattice from the general concept lattice.

Abstract:This paper proposes an approach to fuzzy rough sets in the framework of lattice theory. The new model for fuzzy rough sets is based on the concepts of both fuzzy covering and binary fuzzy logical operators (fuzzy conjunction and fuzzy implication). The conjunction and implication are connected by using the complete lattice-based adjunction theory. With this theory, fuzzy rough approximation operators are generalized and fundamental properties of these operators are investigated. Particularly, comparative studies of the generalized fuzzy rough sets to the classical fuzzy rough sets and Pawlak rough set are carried out. It is shown that the generalized fuzzy rough sets are an extension of the classical fuzzy rough sets as well as a fuzzification of the Pawlak rough set within the framework of complete lattices. A link between the generalized fuzzy rough approximation operators and fundamental morphological operators is presented in a translation-invariant additive group.

Abstract:A difficult question arising in the study of effect algebras is how to equip them with a fitting and proper topology such that the topology is compatible with the partial operations ⊕ and Θ. As we know, the Frink ideal topology is an important intrinsic topology for studying partially ordered set theory; in particular, it is the correct topology for chains and direct products of a finite number of chains. In this paper, we show that the Frink ideal topology is also a nice topology for studying effect-algebra theory since it provides the operations with some of the expected continuity properties.

Abstract:In this study, we focus on exploring a novel rough sets model, L -valued variable precision rough sets, employing a complete residuated lattice within the context of residuated lattices to offer an expansive perspective on lattice truth values. This model comprises three main elements: L -fuzzy set H representing the universal set, an L -valued relation on H , and an L -fuzzy subset of H . Also, the classical L -fuzzy rough set, L -valued fuzzy rough set, and L -fuzzy variable precision rough sets can be regarded as special cases of this model. Moreover, through constructive approaches, this paper comprehensively characterizes L -valued variable precision rough sets. Finally, we examine the connection between an L -quasi-topology and L -valued variable precision rough sets on the L -set H .

Abstract:By the means of lower and upper fuzzy approximations we define quasiorders. Their properties are used to prove our main results. First, we characterize the pairs of fuzzy sets that form fuzzy rough sets w.r.t. a t-similarity relation θ on U , for certain t-norms and implicators. If U is finite or the range of θ and of the fuzzy sets is a fixed finite chain, we establish conditions under which fuzzy rough sets form lattices. We show that this is the case for the min t-norm and any S-implicator defined by an involutive negator and the max co-norm.

Abstract:Rough set theory and formal concept analysis are two complementary mathematical tools for data analysis. In this paper, we study the reduction of the concept lattices based on rough set theory and propose two kinds of reduction methods for the above concept lattices. First, we present the sufficient and necessary conditions for justifying whether an attribute and an object are dispensable or indispensable in the above concept lattices. Based on the above justifying conditions, we propose a kind of multi-step attribute reduction method and object reduction method for the concept lattices, respectively. Then, on the basis of the defined discernibility functions of the concept lattices, we propose a kind of single-step reduction method for the concept lattices. Additionally, the relations between the attribute reduction of the concept lattices in FCA and the attribute reduction of the information system in rough set theory are discussed in detail. At last, we apply the above multi-step attribute reduction method for the concept lattices based on rough set theory to the reduction of the redundant premises of the multiple rules used in the job shop scheduling problem. The numerical computational results show that the reduction method for the concept lattices is effective in the reduction of the multiple rules.

Abstract:This paper further studies the fuzzy rough sets based on fuzzy coverings. We first present the notions of the lower and upper approximation operators based on fuzzy coverings and derive their basic properties. To facilitate the computation of fuzzy coverings for fuzzy covering rough sets, the concepts of fuzzy subcoverings, the reducible and intersectional elements, the union and intersection operations are provided and their properties are discussed in detail. Afterwards, we introduce the concepts of consistent functions and fuzzy covering mappings and provide a basic theoretical foundation for the communication between fuzzy covering information systems. In addition, the notion of homomorphisms is proposed to reveal the relationship between fuzzy covering information systems. We show how large-scale fuzzy covering information systems and dynamic fuzzy covering information systems can be converted into small-scale ones by means of homomorphisms. Finally, an illustrative example is employed to show that the attribute reduction can be simplified significantly by our proposed approach.
