Abstract:Objective To investigate the burden level and the influencing factors of primary family caregivers for stroke survivors.Methods A sampling survey was conducted in 180 stroke survivors and their primary family caregivers living in Shanghai communities by questionnaires.Results Burden score of family caregivers for stroke survivors was 48.83±8.05.There were statistically significant difference in burden score between caregivers with different education level,economy,time of care,time of staying with patients,tasks of care,willingness of care,self-efficacy,health-related quality of life(HRQOL),with or without chronic disease,and stroke survivors with different functional independence level(P<0.05).Multiple stepwise regression analysis demonstrated that HRQOL of caregivers and functional independence level of stroke survivors enter regression equation(P<0.001).Conclusion The primary family caregivers of stroke survivors were under considerable burden.Intervention on reducing caregiver's burden should focus on improving functional independence level of stroke survivors,providing more social support to caregivers and enhancing caregiver's self-efficacy.The intervention should be started earlier and carried through the whole process.
