Emotion Regulation Style of Juvenile Delinquents

Abstract:Objective: To explore emotion regulation style and emotion expression style of juvenile delinquents.Methods: 191 students in a middle school in Beijing and 174 juvenile delinquents were assessed with Aggression Questionnaire,Emotion Regulation scale and Emotion Expression Scale.Results: Emotion Regulation scale and Emotion Expression Scale both had good construct validity and reliability(α coefficient from 0.66 to 0.82).Compared with students,juvenile delinquents tended to use more reappraisal(B=0.59,P0.001),less suppression(B=-0.50,P0.01),less positive expression(B=0.71,P0.001).The interaction of reappraisal(F(1,341)=6.07,P=0.009)and suppression(F(1,341)=8.21,P=0.004)was significant,regardless of what gender and whether or not be delinquents and was edge significant on negative emotion expression(F(1,341)=3.33,P=0.07).Conclusion: The relationship between emotion regulation style and emotion expression style is closely related with and the juvenile's crime.
