Abstract:The problem of stability analysis for a class of switched linear systems is studied in this paper based on the properties of matrix measure. The matrix measures of all subsystems are used to determine the stability of the switched linear systems. Based on this, sufficient conditions are reached, which can be used to determine the stability or instability of switched linear systems under arbitrary switching law. If a switching sequence satisfies some conditions, a theorem in this paper can be used to verify if it can stabilize the systems. The obtained conditions are simpler than the reported methods such as multi-Lyapunov functions and hence are easier to check. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate these conditions.

Abstract:Different from the existing mathematical models for switched systems, where the switching from one subsystem to another subsystem is finished instantly, in this paper it is assumed that the switching is a transfer process. Moreover, there exists a basic transfer subsystem such that in the transfer process, the transfer subsystem is active. Based on the model of switched linear discrete-time systems under constrained switching, this paper studies the reachability of such systems. A necessary and sufficient geometric criterion for reachability of such systems is established. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the results.

Abstract:In this paper, the reachability realization of a switched linear discrete-time system, which is a collection of linear time-invariant discrete-time systems along with some maps for “switching” among them, is addressed. The main contribution of this paper is to prove that for a switched linear discrete-time system, there exists a basic switching sequence such that the reachable (controllable) state set of this basic switching sequence is equal to the reachable (controllable) state set of the system. Hence, the reachability (controllability) can be realized by using only one switching sequence. We also discuss the stabilizability of switched systems, and obtain a sufficient condition for stabilizability. Two numeric examples are given to illustrate the results.

Abstract:A switching system always comprises of several subsystems and a rule supervising the switching between the subsystems. A major problem that is often inherent to all dynamical systems is actuator saturation. Saturation is a nonlinear property that nonlinearly maps small input signals to the output, which may affect the system properties and even destroy them. In this study, stability and stabilization of a class of switched stochastic systems with saturation control was investigated. First, the variation parameter method was used to present the integral form of switched stochastic systems. Second, to guarantee that the zero solution is globally exponentially stable in mean square, two sufficient conditions were obtained using direct computation with Gronwall inequality and indirect method with matrix theory, respectively. Further, another simple sufficient condition was obtained for the stability of the systems using the row norm, column norm, and Frobenius norm. Finally, two examples were used to illustrate the preciseness and effectiveness of the results. Moreover, various control designs were observed to stabilize the systems, which differ from the technique of linear matrix inequalities.

Abstract:Reachability and controllability of positive discrete-time switched linear systems are firstly studied in this paper. First, a theoretic equivalent condition for reachability is addressed. A sufficient condition is also presented, but a counterexample shows that it is not necessary. A verifiable equivalent condition is given for a class of systems. Next, we show that reachability and null controllability is equivalent to complete controllability. A equivalent condition for null controllability is addressed and a verifiable one is given for a class of systems.

Abstract:Systems subjected to switching random excitations are practically significant because they include many safety-critical systems such as power plants and communication networks. In this paper, the reliability of multi-degree, nonlinear, non-integrable Hamiltonian systems subjected to switching random excitations is investigated. Such a system is formulated as a continuous–discrete hybrid based upon the Markov jump theory. Stochastic averaging is applied to suppress the rapidly varying parameters of the Markov jump process in order to generate a probability-weighted diffusion equation. The associated backward Kolmogorov equation is then set up, from which the approximate reliability function and probability density of first passage time are obtained. The utility and accuracy of this approximate procedure are demonstrated by two examples.

Abstract:This paper investigates the number of switchings and design of switching sequences for controllability of switched linear systems. Two related results are established. One is a new constructive approach to designing switching sequences. The controllable state set of each switching sequence designed via the approach coincides with the controllable subspace of switched linear systems. The other is a well-estimated value for the minimum number of switchings required for controllability. Each state in the controllable subspace can be steered to origin within this value of switching times.

Abstract:We study the controllability of switched linear systems. First, the concept of controllable state set is introduced as the basic tool for evaluating the controllability. We then prove that, for a switched linear system, there exists a basic switching sequence such that the controllable state set of this basic switching sequence is equal to the controllable state set of the system. Hence, the controllability can be realized by using only one switching sequence. This striking fact reveals some intrinsic properties of switched linear systems, and is the most fundamental starting point for further development. Based on this fact, a necessary and sufficient condition for controllability of switched linear systems is established. Furthermore, these results are extended to switched linear systems with time-delay. A geometric criterion for controllability of switched time-delay systems is established as well. Illustrative examples are provided.

Abstract:This paper presents the jump law of co-states in optimal control for state-dependent switched systems. The number of switches and the switching modes are assumed to be known a priori. A proposed jump law is rigorously derived by theoretical analysis and illustrated by simulation results. An algorithm is then proposed to solve optimal control for state-dependent hybrid systems. Through numerical simulations, we further show that the proposed approach is more efficient than existing methods in solving optimal control for state-dependent switched systems.

Abstract:This paper addresses the networked guaranteed cost control for discrete-time jump linear systems governed by two different Markov chains which represent the uncertain transition probability of open-loop plant and the random network-induced effects respectively. A new sufficient condition for the existence of guaranteed cost controller and an upper bound of the cost function are presented by a stochastic Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. The mode-dependent controller design problem for such system is then formulated as a convex optimization over a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). As an example to verify the proposed method, a class of open-loop unstable plants in the networked setup is discussed. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. Abstract:This paper first introduces both impulsive and time-Delay behavior into switched linear systems at the same time and studies the controllability and reachability of such systems. Necessary and sufficient criteria for reachability and controllability are established. It is proved that reachability is equivalent to controllability for such systems. Our criteria are of geometric type, they can be transformed into algebraic form conveniently. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the utility of our criteria.

Abstract:This article proposes the two-layer asynchronous control scheme for a class of networked nonlinear jump systems. For the constructed system in a network environment, the data transmission may suffer from many restrictions, such as incomplete acceptable mode information and transition information, nonlinearity of system and inadequate bandwidth resources, etc. Then, the two-layer asynchronous controller is developed to stabilize the plant constructed by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy method and semi-Markov theory (SMT). Herein, the hidden semi-Markov process with time-varying emission probability is introduced to establish the relation between the system modes and the controller modes, in which the interval segmentation method is presented to deal with this time-varying probability. Compared with some published results, this method can make full use of the transition rate information, which may lead to the reduction of conservatism in the proposed asynchronous control design. At the same time, the limited bandwidth problem in the communication channel is addressed by introducing the bilateral quantization strategy, and the new sufficient conditions are derived on the stochastic stability of the nonlinear jump system with/without incomplete transition and sojourn-time information. Finally, the numerical simulation examples about DC motor illustrate the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed approach.

Abstract:This paper addresses the asynchronous H∞ control problem for a class of continuous-time semi-Markov jump linear systems. Under the assumption that the system mode is not accessible, we introduce a discrete-state and continuous-time process which is related to the system mode by a conditional probability as a switching signal of the controller. By constructing a semi-Markov-based Lyapunov funcational, a sufficient condition to ensure the stability of the system with a prescribed H∞ performance is established. In addition, an equivalent statement is derived by introducing a slack variable, and the asynchronous controller is designed. Two examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed new design method.

Abstract:In this paper, the hybrid controllability and mode controllability of switched linear systems are investigated. It is proved that, for switched linear systems, the hybrid controllability is equivalent to the state controllability. Based on this fact, a sufficient and necessary condition for hybrid controllability of switched linear systems is established. Furthermore, the results are extended to switch linear systems with time-delay in control. Two examples are provided to illustrate our results.

Abstract:This paper considers bounded controllability for periodically switched linear systems in discrete time domain. Unlike the usual controllability problem, where the control values at each instant of time are unconstrained, we insist here that the control values at each instant of time belong to a pre-specified bounded set which contains zero in its interior. The concept of controllability and asymptotic controllability are introduced and necessary and sufficient conditions are established, respectively. The results are extended to the state delays case.

Abstract:Impulsive differential systems are an important class of mathematical models for many practical systems in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and information science which exhibit impulsive dynamical behaviors due to abrupt changes at certain instants during the dynamical processes. In this paper, controllability and reachability of linear piecewise constant impulsive systems are studied. Necessary and sufficient criteria for reachability and controllability are established, respectively. It is proved that reachability is equivalent to controllability for such systems under some mild conditions. Our criteria are in geometric forms, they can be transformed into algebraic type conveniently.

Abstract:This paper investigates robust adaptive switching controller design for Markovian jump nonlinear systems with unmodeled dynamics and Wiener noise. The concerned system is of strict-feedback form, and the statistics information of noise is unknown due to practical limitation. With the ordinary input-to-state stability (ISS) extended to jump case, stochastic Lyapunov stability criterion is proposed. By using backstepping technique and stochastic small-gain theorem, a switching controller is designed such that stochastic stability is ensured. Also system states will converge to an attractive region whose radius can be made as small as possible with appropriate control parameters chosen. A simulation example illustrates the validity of this method.

Necessary and sufficient conditions for uniform stochastic stability and uniform stochastic disturbance attenuation are reported.
