Abstract:Prof.YAO Dian-zhong is the only live disciple of Prof.ZHANG Tai-yan,great master of Chinese Classics.With the benefit of Prof.ZHAN's instruction and advice,he realized the essence of calligraphy,therefore his skill got much improved.In the life as long as more than a half century,Prof.YAO has widely absorbed others' strong points and achieved mastery through a comprehensive study of the subject,forming a vigorous and fresh style of calligraphy.Meanwhile,combined with his modest character and knowledgeable mind,he has established a kind of scholar calligraphy and literati calligraphy style,which is handsome and elegant.Prof.YAO is a calligrapher who fuses the academics with calligraphy.He puts emphasis on the priority of culture over the noumenon of calligraphy,and his works display a lofty realm.His calligraphy is both rule-abiding and creative.And his calligraphy aesthetics takes on an open and aboveboard scene.His works have strong flavor of scholar calligraphy,revealing the rich cultural intensions of him.The spirit qualities of Chinese traditional culture are well embodied in the lines of his calligraphy.Prof.YAO's accomplishments in academics and calligrapher has won him the highest honorary award in the field of calligraphy——Lanting Lifetime Achievement Award.
