Abstract:The fatty acid in the flax seeds was determined by GC/MS.The results show that the flax seeds contain high contents of unsaturated fatty acid,the contents of α-linolenic acid,linoleic acid and oleic acid were 16.7%～18.7%,5.1%～5.9% and 8.2%～8.7%,respectively,and the total unsaturated fatty acid was 30.0%～32.5%.

Abstract:Flaxseed oil is an important source of vegetable oil with a polyunsaturated fatty acid. It is significant to establish a method to quickly identify adulterated flaxseed oil. In the present study, the qualitative and quantitative analysis of phytosterol of flaxseed oil from different varieties and different production areas in the Qinghai area was first performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and the phytosterol standard profile of flaxseed oil was established. Then, a combination of similarity evaluation and cluster analysis was used to distinguish pure flaxseed oil from flaxseed oil adulterated with concentrations of 10-50% rapeseed oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil, and sesame oil, and discriminant analysis was used to identify the types of adulterated flaxseed oil. The results showed that similarity evaluation combined with cluster analysis can distinguish pure and adulterated flaxseed oil when the concentration of the adulterant was greater than 10%. Discriminant analysis models accurately identified the types of adulterating oil in flaxseed oil when the concentration of rapeseed, peanut, or sunflower oil was greater than 20%, and that of sesame oil was greater than 30%. This study shows that the determination of the phytosterol composition and chemometrics is a valuable tool to evaluate the purity of flaxseed oil.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To analyze and identify fatty acids in the seeds of Sterculia lychnophora.METHOD:The compositions was isolated and determined by GC-MS technique, and area normalization method was used to make quantitative analyze of the content of compositions.RESULTS:21 Fatty acids and 5 other compositions were isolated and determined.CONCLUSION:The major fatty acids are 9,12(Z,Z)-octadecadienoic acid(37.96%), hexadecanoic acid(24.77%), 9-(Z)-octadecenoic acid(19.77%) and octadecanoic acid(5.01%).

Abstract:The extraction and refinement of rosa laevigata's seed oil investigates the physicochemical properties of seed oil.The ingredients and contents of fatty acids in the seed oil are determined with GC-MS.The result shows that the oil yield of rosa laevigata's seed oil is 5.24%;the acid value is 0.36 mgKOH / g;the peroxide value is 46.10 mmol / kg;the iodine value is 160.90 gI2/100 g;and the saponification value is 193.76 mgKOH / g.Five fatty acids are identified in the rasa laevigata's seed oil.The content of unsaturated fatty acid is 86.10% which includes 43.99% linoleic acid and 42.11% α-linolenic acid.But the saturated fatty acid is 13.90% which is composed of palmitic acid,stearic acid and arachidic acid.The seed oil has plentiful unsaturated fatty acids and it is a potential source for nutritional and healthy functions.

Abstract:A reliable method of separating and identifying glucosinolates in rapeseed has been developed by using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with confirmation by electrospray mass spectrometry and ultraviolet spectroscopy. Volatile ion-pairing regent and acetic acid was added to modify the mobile phase. After extraction, deproteinization, and centrifugation, glucosinolates were first purified by a column packed with Diethylaminoethyl-(DEAE)-sephadex A-25 and then were injected into the chromatographic system. Confirmation of identity was accomplished using both negative-ion electrospray mass spectrometry and ultraviolet spectroscopy. Seven species of glucosinolates were determined by using this method.

Abstract:Seed oil extracted from the seeds of Ambrosia trifida through solvent extraction was analysed by GC-MS after esterification.Four components from six peaks of the fatty acid constituents were identified.The main constituents are linoleic acid and oleic acid,and the relative contents are 81.60% and 14.73%,respectively.

Abstract:The data presented in this article were generated through the gas chromatography (GC) with a flame ionization detector (FID). The flaxseed oil was converted into fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) then used in the GC with FID and observe the retention time of different fatty acid present in the flaxseed oil. The observed retention time was compared with the standard fatty acid to confirm the specific fatty acid presence in the flaxseed oil. The part of the data is used in the article "Optimization of the process variable for biodiesel production by transesterification of flaxseed oil and produced biodiesel characterizations" Renewable Energy journal (Ahmad et al., 2019).
Analysis on Fatty Acid and Unsaponifiable Matter in Torreya grandis var. merriii Seed Oil

Abstract:The seed of Chinese torreya(Torreya grandis var.merriii) is a special rare native nut in China.This research focused on the fatty acid and unsaponifiable matter composition of its seed oil determined by GC/MS.Results showed that linoleic acid and oleic acid were most abundant with mass fraction of 39.60% and 35.40%,followed by palmitic acid(10.24%) and sciadonic acid(all-cis-5,11,14-eicosatrienoic acid,8.65%).Sciadonic acid is an unusual fatty acid,which is first reported in Torreya seed oil in China.In other side,β-sitosterol and β-tocopherol were main unsaponifiable components with respective contents of 1.10 mg/g and 0.51 mg/g.These data would be helpful for the further development and utilization of Chinese torreya seed oil as functional food.

Abstract:Weight method and Gas chromatography-Mass spectrometry were adopted to determine the fat and fatty acid contents of the seeds of three wild plants,S. glauca,S.corniculata and S.salsa,which grew on saline-alkaline land of west Jilin Province.The results indicated that the fat contents of S.glauca,S.corniculata and S.salsa seeds respectively contained 24.39%,15.67% and 15.80% fat,88.65%,88.30% and 88.50% fatty acids in their fat,and high linoleic oil contents among their unsaturated fatty acids,which amounted to 56.94%,59.35%,and 60.86%,respectively.It is highly potential and significant to make use of saline-alkaline land for planting Suaeda plants and fully exploit their values in foods,medicines and healthy cares.

Abstract:[Objective] To analyze and determine the chemical structures and contents of E vitamins in flowers and pollens of F. thunbergii Miq., so as to provide scientific basis for its further development. [Methods] Highperformance liquid chromatography-florescence detection (HPLC-FLD) was first established to determine the compositions of E vitamins. The detection conditions were as follows: Agilent Zorbax RX-SIL column (4.6 mm×150 mm, 5 μm) and guard column (4.6 mm ×10 mm, 5 μm), mobile phase of hexane-0.2% isopropanol-0.8% acetic acid , column temperature of 25 ℃, flow rate of 1.0 ml/min, the maximum excitation and emission wavelengths were 292 and 328 nm.[Results]8 kinds of vitamins were determined simultaneously for the first time, which were in good linear relationship within the detection range, with R20.999 0 and recovery rate exceeded 98%. There were 7 kinds of E vitamins in the flower of F. thunbergii Miq., among which D-α-tocotrienols was the highest that reached 181.606 mg/kg, however the contents of E vitamins in the pollens of F. thunbergii Miq. were relatively lower. [Conclusion] There are multiple kinds of E vitamins in the flowers and pollens of F. thunbergii Miq., comparatively speaking, E vitamins in the flower of F. thunbergii Miq. were more than that in pollen, which deserves further research. Besides, HPLC-FLD is convenient and efficiency that can be used for determining the contents of E vitamins.

Abstract:Flaxseed oil is popular edible oil and an important additive in functional foods and feeds. Recently, economically motivated adulteration as a type of oil fraud becomes emerging risk. In this study, the fatty acid profiles of flaxseed oil were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry operating in selected ion monitoring mode and then used to detect adulterated flaxseed oil with the help of multivariate statistical methods including principle component analysis (PCA), and recursive support vector machine (R-SVM). The detection results indicate that the discriminant model built with 28 fatty acids can identify adulterated flaxseed oil samples (10%) with high accuracy of 95.6%. Therefore, fatty acid profiles based adulteration detection for flaxseed oil is an important strategy for preventing customers far from adulterated flaxseed oil.

Abstract:Flavor rapeseed oil (FRO) is a typical hot‐pressed oil and is widely consumed in China due to its strong characteristic flavor and intensive color. In this study, volatile profiles of 33 representative commercial rapeseed oils in China were characterized by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and flash gas chromatography (GC) electronic nose system. Fifty‐one volatile compounds were identified and the nitriles (methallyl cyanide and 5‐cyano‐1‐pentene), aldehydes (nonanal, 3‐furaldehyde, and 5‐methyl‐2‐furancarboxaldehyde), alcohols (1,5‐hexadien‐3‐ol, 2‐furanmethanol, and phenylethyl alcohol), and pyrazines (2,5‐dimethyl‐pyrazine and 2,6‐dimethyl‐pyrazine) were the major volatile compounds in FROs. Glucosinolate degradation products accounted for the highest proportion of these volatiles, which were found to have a positive correlation with the erucic acid content (r2 = 0.796, p < 0.01). FRO from Sichuan province in the southwest of China could be characterized by the obvious distinctions in flash GC electronic nose combined with principal component analysis, which indicated that the flash GC electronic nose could be used as a promising method to identify the origins of FRO.Practical Applications:It would be helpful for a knowledge of volatiles of commercial flavor rapeseed oil. The data can also serve as a basis for the quality assessment of hot‐pressed rapeseed oil. Meanwhile, the flash GC electronic nose combined with principal component analysis could be used as a promising method for the classification of flavor rapeseed oil production areas.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Objective To analyze the fat-soluble compounds in the seed of Scutellaria baicalensis.Methods The fat-soluble compounds were extracted from the seed of Scutellaria baicalensis by CHCl3,and analyzed by GC-MS.Results 26 components were identified,accounting for 66.74 percent of the total compounds.The main constituents are 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid(23.42%),9-Octadecenoic acid(9.84%),2-Heptenal(5.63%),n-Hexadecanoic acid(4.21%),2,4-Decadienal(3.67%),2-Decenal(3.06%),Octadecanoic acid(2.57%).Conclusions The fat-soluble compounds of the seed of Scutellaria baicalensis are mainly consisted of organic acid,alkane and olefine aldehyde.
Determination of Trans Fatty Acids Content in Baked Food Using Gas Chromatography

Abstract:Trans fatty acids(TFAs) are polyunsaturated fatty acids with at least one trans double bond.Studies found that large intake of TFAs will cause a variety of adverse effects on people's health.The contents of TFA in eleven kinds of baked food were determined by gas chromatography internal standard method in the present study.The results showed that thirteen TFA isomers were separated and the contents of TFA in tested foods were 0.10 %-2.81 %.Among the samples examined,the highest level was found to be at 2.81 % in Danish croissant.Base on fat content of these samples,total TFAs ranged from 1.18 % to 10.75 % of total fatty acids.The trans 18:1 isomers content ranged from 46.59 % to 80.65 % of total TFAs,this being the most prevalent group of trans polyunsaturated acid.

Abstract:Walnut is a precious marketed nut characterised by kernels containing more than 60% of oil. Gas chromatography (GC) is the most used method to analyse oils; nonetheless, polyunsaturated (PUFA)s and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA)s were not separated sufficiently. Therefore, our study is based on the employment of two GC systems with different columns. However, for determination of PUFAs and MUFAs composition, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) seems to be a promising technique by showing the resonance for each unsaturated fatty acids (UFA)s in olefinic region, and also for saturated fatty acids (SFA) in the aliphatic region. 13C NMR was able to distinguish between fatty acid isomers such as oleic (C18:1 Δ9) and vaccenic (C18:1 Δ11) acid. In addition, different fatty acid length with same position of unsaturated carbon were distinguished and determined by 13C NMR, for instance between vaccenic (C18:1 Δ11) and eicosenoic (C20:1 Δ11) acid. NMR quantification takes the advantages of chemical shifts to accurately calculate fatty acid contents for both saturated and unsaturated one. Besides providing the full profile of fatty acids, this study adds information regarding quantitative and qualitative composition of walnut oil. This can expand the analytical methods used to improve the knowledge of nutritional values of oil and food products.Graphical abstract

Abstract:Abstract The seed kernels of Sesamum indicum L. (family: Pedaliaceae) were extracted with ethanol and yield of components determined by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). The free radical scavenging activities of ethanolic extract against1, 1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) were determined by UV spectrophotometer at 517 nm. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of numerous bioactive compounds including steroids, phenolic, terpenoids, fatty acids and different types of ester compounds. The ethanolic extract was purified and analyzed by GC MS.The prevailing compounds found in ethanolic extract were Carvacrol (0.04%),Sesamol (0.11%), 4-Allyl-2-methoxy-phenol(0.04%),Palmitic acid (1.08%), cis-9-Hexadecenal (85.40%), Lineoleoyl chloride (0.52%), Palmitic acid β-monoglyceride (0.40%), Dihydro-aplotaxene (0.61%), Oleoyl chloride (1.11%), (+)-Sesamin (4.73%), 1,3-Benzodioxole, 5-[4-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yloxy)tetrahydro-1 H,3 H-furo [3,4-c]furan-1-yl], [1 S-(1,3,4,6α.), (2.01%)], 6-Nitrocholest-5-en-3-yl acetate (0.22%), Ergost-5-en-3β-ol (2.35%) and 24-Propylidenecholesterol (0.16%). The presence ofsaturated and unsaturated fatty acids in ethanolicextract justifies the use of this plant to treat many ailments in folk and traditional medicine. Ethanolic extract have shown significant antioxidant activity(IC50120.38±2.8 μg/ml). The presence of phenolic (Sesamol), lignin (Sesamin) compounds and unsaturated fatty acids are reported as possible contributor for antioxidantactivity of seed extract.
Ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry for precise fatty acid profiling of oilseed crops

Abstract:Oilseed crops are one of the most important sources of vegetable oils for food and industry. Nutritional and technical properties of vegetable oil are primarily determined by its fatty acid (FA) composition. The content and composition of FAs in plants are commonly determined using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GS-MS) or gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) techniques. In the present work, we applied ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) technique to FA profiling of sunflower and rapeseed seeds and compared this method with the GC-FID technique. GC-FID detected 11 FAs in sunflower and 13 FAs in rapeseed, while UPLC-MS appeared to be more sensitive, detecting about 2.5 times higher numbers of FAs in both plants. In addition to even-chain FAs, UPLC-MS was able to detect odd-chain FAs. The longest FA detected using GC-FID was an FA with 24 carbon atoms, whereas UPLC-MS could reveal the presence of longer FAs with the tails of up to 28 carbon atoms. Based on our results, we may conclude that UPLC-MS has great potential to be used for the assessment of FA profiles of oil crops.

Abstract:The binding and release behavior of flaxseed proteins to aldehydes is significant for the sensory properties of flaxseed foods. The key aldehydes of flaxseed were selected by headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) and odor activity value (OAV) method, and the interaction between flaxseed protein and flaxseed protein was investigated by multispectral, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, and particle size techniques. The results showed that 2,4-decadienal presented a higher binding capability and a higher Stern-Volmer constant with flaxseed protein than pentanal, benzaldehyde, and decanal. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions were the main forces. Aldehydes contributed to a certain reduction in radius of gyration (Rg) value and α-helix content of flaxseed protein. In addition, the results of particle size showed that aldehydes caused the proteins to aggregate toward larger particles. This study could provide new insights into the interactions between flaxseed food and flavor.

Abstract:Flaxseed, also known as flax or linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.), is one of the oldest crops. It is used for oil and fiber production. The species displays a broad range of biological activities due to its chemical compounds. It has a widespread geographical distribution, and a large number of its varieties have been evaluated for their biological efficacy and nutritional value. This study investigates fifteen varieties of the species, some of which are examined for the first time. In this regard, a series of chemical composition analyses and antioxidant assays were carried out. Accordingly, total phenolic content ranged between 613.6 (Michael) and 3164.6 (Atalanta) mg GAE/g, whilst total flavonoid content varied from 176.25 (BonnyDoon) to 689.20 (Mcduff) mg QE/g. Regarding the radical scavenging assays, the values obtained were significantly higher than those of the standard antioxidant (ascorbic acid). Furthermore, the extracts exhibited chelating activity for ferrous ions and a cupric reducing capacity that was comparable to that of the standard. The oil content values of the varieties ranged from 0.82 g/100 g (Michael) to 2.14 g/100 g (McGregor). The percentage of α-linolenic acid varied between 39.21% (McGregor) and 54.13% (Nareum).

Abstract:Trans-fatty acids are unsaturated fatty acids that are considered to have health risks. 1,3,5,7-Tetramethyl-8-butyrethylenediamine-difluoroboradiaza-s-indacene is a highly-sensitive fluorescent labeling reagent for carboxylic acids developed by our lab. In this study, using this pre-column fluorescent derivatization reagent, a rapid and accurate high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection method was developed for the determination of two trans-fatty acids in food samples. Under the optimized derivative conditions, two trans-fatty acids were tagged with the fluorescent labeling reagent in the presence of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl-aminopropyl) carbodiimide at 25 °C for 30 min. Then, the baseline separation of trans- and cis-fatty acids and their saturated fatty acid with similar structures was achieved with less interference using a reversed-phased C18 column with isocratic elution in 14 min. With fluorescence detection at λex/λem = 490 nm/510 nm, the linear range of the trans-fatty acids was 1.0-200 nM with low detection limits in the range of 0.1-0.2 nM (signal-to-noise ratio = 3). In addition, the proposed approach was successfully applied for the detection of trans-fatty acids in food samples, and the recoveries using this method ranged from 96.02% to 109.22% with low relative standard deviations of 1.2-4.3% (n = 6).This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:The research aimed to extract the oil from Horsfieldia amygdalina seed in Xishangbannan of Yunnan province,China,and analyze the components of fatty acids.The result showed that ratio of extracted oil was 61.99%.There were 16 kinds of fatty acids in seeds,the content of lauric acid was 47.2% and myristic acid was 45.33%.
