Abstract:Cover methods and mulch materials were adopted and greenhouse-film mulching, integrated rice straw and greenhouse-film mulching, plastic film mulching, rice straw mulching, integrated rice straw and sun-shading net covering were used to regulate root temperature of flue-cured tobacco, and hence to study physiological and ecological effects of different rhizospheric temperatures on flue-cured tobacco. Results indicate that 400 ℃ is the critical cumulative temperature for nurserying vigorous tobacco seedlings in the early growth period of tobacco. If the cumulative temperature goes above 400 ℃,though seedling height and root length increase, overall plant growth and physiological traits degenerate leading to low dry-matter accumulation. As soil cumulative temperature drops below 400 ℃ vigorous growth and enhanced physiological traits are observed. All mulching materials show strong increasing effect on rhizospheric temperature at high air temperature.Large soil temperature variations are observed with differing mulching materials.Combined greenhouse-film and rice straw mulching is an effective method of preventing cold damage, which often occurs after flue-cured tobacco seedling transplanting.
