Abstract:Purpose:We present15cases of ganglion cell tumors,analyze their CT and/or MRI features,with the intent of identifying their imaging features.Materials and Methods:8CT and15MR examinations in15patients with ganglion cell tumors who had undergone resection were reviewed.Both plain CT scan and SE T 1 W,FSE T 2 W,postcontrasted T 1 W SE sequences MR scan were performed on8patients,and the other7patients only got MR scan.Comparison between findings at CT,MRI and pathologic examination was made.Results:On plain CT scan,2were hypodensity with peripheral calcification,the others were Iso-or hypodensity with2calcification.On T 1 W MRI:14were Iso-and/or hypointensity,only one ganglioglioma(Grade4)with hemorrhage was hypo-and hyperintensity,on T 2 WI:2showed hyperin-tensity with hypointnesity ring,12hyper-or with hypointensity,and one dysplastic gangliocytomas of the cerebellum was hyperintensity with strait isointensity morphology.7were of no edema,3mild ede-ma,and5medium edema.On post-contrasted T 1 WI,2ganglioglioma(Grade1):both cases were not enhanced,10ganglioglioma(Grade2～4):3were slightly patchy enhanced and7Intense heterogenous enhanced.2gangliocytoma(Grade1)were intense heterogenous enhanced,1dysplastic gangliocytomas of the cerebellum was not enhanced.Three types of these lesions were special including:2gangliogliomas(Grade1)which are cystic lesion circled with calcification ring with no enhancement,3cases of ganglion cell tumors locating within penduncle,pons,medulla and superior cervical spinal cord,1case of dys-plastic gangliocytoma of the cerebellum.Conclusion:An intra-axial tumor of young patient located on the gray matter,with no enhancement or intense heterogenous enhancement,especially with cysts and calcification,differential diagnosis of ganglion cell tumor should be concerned.Some ganglion cell tumors are of special imaging features for diagnosis.
