Abstract:In this paper the problem of accurate edge detection for pulp fibers images is discussed. The images are acquired by the smart CCD camera. Subpixel edge detection is considered that applied in the system to improve the measurement accuracy of pulp fibers. The location of a precise edge is the basis of kink index, kink Angle, curl index and other measurement parameters for the pulp fibers. A new method for subpixel edge detection of the pulp fibers is introduced. Canny operator is used to get the pixel level edge. Each edge point determines five pixels in the gradient direction. Then the least squares fitting is used to locate its sub-pixel edge. The measurement results show that the proposed subpixel edge detection method is valid to improve measurement accuracy for real time measuring the pulp fiber parameters.

Abstract:Along with the rapid development of aerospace, automobile, die & mold industries, free-form surface products are widely used, and the measurement and reverse engineering of freeform surface products become research focus. Free-form surface products include many kinds of curve patches (flat, column surface, spherical surface, irregular surfaces, etc). The key in reverse engineering of free-form surface products is numerical measurement. Between the product surfaces and measuring platform is the skip edge, and C0&C1 continual edges are between the patches. Measuring by different areas compartmentalized according to the edges is a good method, which expedites the measurement and modeling. Even in whole measurement, the ship edge and C0&C1 continual edge are also important in surface modeling. In recent years, CCD camera or data point segmentation from massive data point clouds is often applied in edge detection research. But some negative factors still exist when using the CCD to integrate CNC machine such as difficult assembly, complicated system demarcation and high cost and so on. The disadvantages of using data point segmentation are low precision, lots of useless data points and measurement time, reduce the efficiency. In order to overcome the disadvantages, this article aims at laser non-contact measurement, an edge measuring method of free-form surface which is based of sampling is put forward. And it provides an idiographic way for the skip edge or C0&C1 continual edge which are widely uses in free surface parts. Because the edge detection method can make out measurement path according to the edge curve and optimize measurement points, the laser probe can adaptively measure the parts in a fast and accurate mode. Finally experiments show that the method is effective. And this method can be used to regulation part measurement too.

Abstract:Accurate edge location is key in image measurement. This paper describes an automatic search of CCD calibration coefficient S, regional mean filter, and a subpixel measuring method of using spatial moments in industrial measurement with the precise location of edge at pixel level. Also the reasons that influence on measure precision are discussed. Satisfactory ability of this method is proven by real-time measuring data, the maximum permissible error is within +/-0.010 mm in a relative big visual field.

Abstract:This paper presented a novel method to select the edge scale automatically,which could be used to split complicated interleaving edges into more meaningful edge segments that could be classified easily according to their features.First,edge extreme paths in Gaussian scale space were searched to obtain the characteristic scale for each edge point,by calculating the maximum distance the edge point travels from one scale level to adjacent one and analyzing the four forms of extreme path evolution.Then,interleaving edges were split into pieces with different scales according to their scale histogram.These edge pieces con-necting with each other were combined through extreme path in scale space.Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in edge segmentation based on characteristic scales and saliency of edge.

Abstract:The edges of an image are important information. Edge detection is the base of feature extraction, image analysis and comprehension. The quality of edge detection determines the performance of subsequent processing. The edge of an image stands for the discontinued information. We propose a new algorithm of image edge detection based on grey system theory in this paper. we calculate the relative degree of grey incidences between pixel with its neighbor and the ideal reference vector and then decide the edge property of the pixel. Some discussion and experiments are performed. The result shows that this new algorithm is applicable and we can adjust the edge information through the setting of the threshold.

Abstract:The results of image edge detection directly affects the subsequent image processing operations.Effectively extracting the information carried by the image target is the main purpose of the image edge detection.In order to realize the extraction of a target outline,an image edge detection method based on a Euclidean distance graph is proposed.The Euclidean distance between points in the image is calculated,and the distance graph is obtained.The scenery outside the outline is well described in the graph.The scenery outline can be effectively extracted by using an improved Canny operator for edge detection.Compared with other general edge detection algorithms,the method can effectively realize the detection of a target's outline.Because small and trivial details are suppressed,the method gives a better basis for further image target outline recognition.

Abstract:Edge detection technology aims to identify and extract the boundary information of image pixel mutation, which is a research hotspot in the field of computer vision. This technology has been widely used in image segmentation, target detection, and other high-level image processing technologies. In recent years, considering the problems of thick image edge contour, inaccurate positioning, and poor detection accuracy, researchers have proposed a variety of edge detection algorithms based on deep learning, such as multi-scale feature fusion, codec, network reconstruction, and so on. This paper dedicates to making a comprehensive analysis and special research on the edge detection algorithms. Firstly, by classifying the multi-level structure of traditional edge detection algorithms, the theory and method of each algorithm are introduced. Secondly, through focusing on the edge detection algorithm based on deep learning, the technical difficulties, advantages of methods, and backbone network selection of each algorithm are analysed. Then, through the experiments on the BSDS500 and NYUD dataset, the performance of each algorithm is further evaluated. It can be seen that the performance of the current edge detection algorithms is close to or even beyond the human visual level. At present, there are a few comprehensive review articles on image edge detection. This paper dedicates to making a comprehensive analysis of edge detection technology and aims to offer reference and guidance for the relevant personnel to follow up easily the current developments of edge detection and to make further improvements and innovations.

Abstract:Pantograph slide is a vulnerable component because of the contact and friction between the pantograph and catenary while the train runs with a high speed. Condition monitoring of the slide is a necessary and meaningful work to improve the operation efficiency and reduce the occurrence of accident. It is a hard work to measure the slide abrasion due to the dynamic and complicated environment. In this article, an accurate edge extraction method based on image analysis is proposed, which aims at providing an image metric property based on vision measurement to detect the wear of slide. First, a subpixel edge detection method is proposed. The gradient in horizontal direction is first taken into account, which filters out the nonhorizontal edges. Then, the upper and lower edges of the slide are located using the geometric restriction. The subpixel edge feature are also extracted in the image process, which can be used to the vision measurement system for monitoring the wear condition of the slide. The experiment results shows that the proposed algorithm can precisely detect the subpixel edges of the slide. The measurement error of the slide is less than 2 mm, which demonstrates that the proposed algorithm has a high accuracy in the large field of view.

Abstract:Image segmentation techniques are always difficult and are the key point of image processing. Currently, many image segmentation algorithms are springing up, but there are no universal methods. Firstly, this paper analyses basic theory and advantages and disadvantages of traditional methods in the field of image segmentation, including threshold methods, edge detection methods, and region segmentation methods. Secondly, based on the evolution of traditional methods and new methods, which include the gene method, the research status of image segmentation algorithms in recent years is combined systematically and commented. Finally, the development trends and the difficulty of image segmentation are pointed out and, importantly, one new idea which is of significance is put forward.

Abstract:A fuzzy multiscale edge detection algorithm of im ag e based on wavelet multiresolution analysis is presented in this paper. The dyad ic wavelet transform is employed to produce the multiscale representation of ima ge, and fuzzy decision method is applied in wavelet domain of different scales. The information of images with different scales can be synthesized effectively, and an optimal result of edge detection can be acquired. The paper compares the performances of the new algorithm with the Canny algorithm and Mallats algori thm according to the concrete image signals. The results prove the feasibility a nd effectiveness of our algorithm over these other methods.

Abstract:The edge is the most significant information in image processing applications. Moreover, and the accurate and continue edge commonly leads to accurate related steps like object tracking and region clustering. In fact, it is the first step of image analysis and understanding. The accuracy edge detection results have an impact on the comprehension machine system. In this paper we present various improved edge detection techniques by our research team, of similar color and grey level images, using the information theory approach based on other energy information inspired from Shannon entropy and utilizing as well the metaheuristic and intelligent method combined with multilevel thresholding approach in various color spaces, and like the ant colony optimization with the graph cut approach for indexing images before the segmentation step. In addition, particular swarm optimization is done, and finally the fuzzy technique is used. The effectiveness and accuracy of these approaches are evaluated by many metric measurements and compared with the common operators. The PR metric, has a significant mean value (about 20) than PR of Canny operator (about 9). And also, we can denote that all improved techniques achieve significant results with ameliorated running time.

Abstract:Subpixel edge detection is critical in three-dimension computer-assisted intra-operative navigation based on a marker-based matching technique, because it significantly influences the accuracy of guidance. In order to increase the accuracy, a gray moment based method is proposed to extract the accurate contours of the connected areas. Firstly, a border following algorithm is used to acquire a rough contour, and then the gradient at each point on the contour is obtained. The accurate contour is figured out subsequently by the gray moment along the gradient direction. To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method, by using the output of a binocular vision system with a high-precision 3D spatial positioning device as the exact value, we compare results of the proposed method with those of several traditional methods. It turns out that the proposed method improves spatial positioning accuracy by an order of magnitude (i.e. from 1 mm to 0.1 mm). Finally, we show the potential of our approach as a general purpose contour detector which can be applied to tissue segmentation.

Abstract:A measurement path optimization method is proposed in this paper which is based on the concept of scan reflex-vertex and the idea of monotony segmentation. The method includes such three steps as the determination of the optimization measurement direction, the monotony segmentation of the measurement area and the calculation of the measurement path element and the connection of the measurement path. The effectiveness of the method is verified by an example.
