Abstract:A novel Zn-based metal organic framework (MOF) was synthesized from the mixed ligands, 3,3',5,5'-azoxybenzenetetracarboxylic acid (H(4)AOBTC) and 1,4-bis(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)benzene (phenDIB) ligand. The crystal structure of the complex exhibits an interpenetrated three-dimensional framework that can be simplified as a (4,4)-connected 2-nodal bbf net. This MOF displays extraordinary thermostability in boiling water for 12 h and chemical stability in a wide pH range of 2-13. The most intriguing feature is that it can successfully separate cationic dyes from mixed dye molecules in aqueous solution with high effectivity and selectivity, even for rhodamine B molecule with a large size. Furthermore, this material is reusable, and the adsorbed dye molecules can be released and recovered completely. It is very important for the practical application from a view of environmental protection and resource recycling.

Abstract:A new interpenetrating three dimensional open metal-organic framework [Zn-8(GeO4)(C8H4O4)(6)](n), constructed by Zn-8(GeO4) secondary building units is reported. It is a rare example of metal-organic frameworks based on the heterometallic cluster secondary building units. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that it is thermally stable up to 320degreesC.

Abstract:Three porous supramolecular isomers (IZE-1, IZE-2, and IZE-3) with the same framework component [Zn(2)(EBTC)(H(2)O)(2)] (EBTC = 1,1'-ethynebenzene-3,3',5,5'-tetracarboxylate) were successfully constructed by finely tuning the reaction condition. Although both IZE-1 and IZE-2 are constructed from the linear EBTC subunits and one kind of regular [Zn(2)(CO(2))(4)] paddlewheels, their frameworks exhibit two different (3,4)-c net of fof (sqc1575) and sqc1572, respectively, resulting in cavities with different size and shape. However, as for isomer IZE-3, the EBTC ligands are bent and one-half of the [Zn(2)(CO(2))(4)] paddlewheels are distorted, leading to a novel (3,4,4)-c hyx net with point symbol (6.7(2))(4)(6(2).8(2).10(2))(7(2).8(2).11(2)) and vertex symbol (6.7.7)(4)(7(2).7(2).8.8.12.12)(6.6.8.8.10(2).10(2)). Quantum chemical calculations by DFT indicate that the three isomers have very close thermodynamic stabilities, which may explain that subtle condition change leads to variation of the frameworks. Further theoretical semiempirical investigation on the interactions between solvent molecules and compounds shows different hydrogen binding patterns in good agreement with the experimental observations. Furthermore, they exhibit good solid-state luminescence properties with long lifetime.

Abstract:A reaction between a Zr-IV salt and a porphyrinic tetracarboxylic acid leads to a metal-organic framework (MOF) with two types of open channels, representing a MOF featuring a (4,8)-connected sqc net. The MOF remains intact in both boiling water and aqueous solutions with pH ranging from 1 to 11, a remarkably extensive pH range that a MOF can sustain. Given its exceptional stability and pH-dependent fluorescent intensity, the MOF can potentially be applied in fluorescent sensing.

Abstract:A new three-dimensional porous metal-organic framework, {[NH2(CH3)(2)][Zn(atz)(ox)]center dot H2O}(n) (1) (Hatz = 5-amino-1H-tetrazole, H(2)ox = oxalic acid), has been solvothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Complex 1 exhibits an anionic framework that can be simplified as a rarely reported 4-connected lon network. Complex 1 could be utilized as a platform for emission tuning by doping different lanthanide ions. In addition, gas adsorption studies reveal that 1 has a high isosteric heat of CO2 and good adsorption selectivity for CO2 over CH4 and N-2.

Abstract:A novel heterometallic-organic framework(HMOF), namely [ZnBa(1,3-BDC) 2 (DMA) 2 ] n ( 1 )(DMA=N,Ndimethylacetamide), was synthesized by means of solvothermal method from isophthalic acid(1,3-BDC) ligand and relevant metal salts as raw materials. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis result demonstrates that compound 1 is a three-dimensional(3D) framework including heterometallic tetranuclear [Zn 2 Ba 2 (COO) 8 ] clusters as building subunits, which could be simplified into an eight-connected body-centered cubic(bcu) topological net. At room temperature, compound 1 displays strong blue luminescence in solid state. Furthermore, the quantum yield and luminescent lifetime of compound 1 were also measured.

Abstract:A 3-connected dia-f-type metal-organic framework compound {[Ag(L)(3/2)H2PO4]}(n) (1) has been synthesized by self-assembly of 4.4'-H(2)bpz (L = 4,4'-H(2)bpz = 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-4,4'-bipyrazole) and Ag4P2O7 under hydrothermal conditions. It crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I4(1)/acd with a = 21.406(4) angstrom, b = 21.406(4) angstrom, c = 36.298(8) angstrom, Z = 32. X-ray single-crystal diffraction reveals that 1 has a three-dimensional framework with an unprecedented alternate left- and right-handed helices structure, featuring a non-uniform two-fold interpenetrated (4.14(2)) net. Photoluminescent investigation reveals that the title compound displays interesting emissions in a wide region, which shows that the title compound may be a good potential candidate as a photoelectric material. Abstract:The fabrication of metal-organic frameworks with controlled structure and desired properties is important but still a challenge. In this work, a zinc(II) framework, {[Zn3(L)2(DABCO)(H2O)]·9DMF} (named as Zn-1), has been synthesized based on [1,1':3',1″-terphenyl]-4,4″,5'-tricarboxylic acid (H3L) and 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO), which is isostructural to the previously reported copper(II) analogue, {[Cu3(L)2(DABCO)(H2O)]·15H2O·9DMF} (named as Cu-1). Interestingly, hybrid zinc(II) and copper(II) bimetallic frameworks have been obtained via metal-ion metathesis and found to show enhanced adsorption and photoluminescence properties. Such a post-metal-ion metathesis method can be used to synthesize new and desired frameworks that could not be obtained by direct synthesis.

Abstract:Employing the flexible tetrapodal ligand 1,2,3,4-tetra-(4-pyridyl)-butane (TPB) along with fumaric acid (H2FMA) as the bridges, a metal-organic framework of [Zn(TPB)(FMA)·(2H2O)] (1) was obtained and characterized by elemental analysis, spectral method (IR), single crystal X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and fluorescent property. This polymer exhibits a three dimensional (3D) dense network with an interesting (4,4)-connected PtS topology. It also displays good thermal stability and strong photoluminescence in the blue region band. Thus it may serve as a candidate of thermally stable blue-light-emitting photoluminescent material.

Abstract:Four new metal-organic frameworks [Zn3(HL)2(btc)2(H2O)2]·H2O (1), [Mn(H2L)(btc)(H2O)] (2), [Zn2(L)(HL)(SIP)(H2O)]·4H2O (3) and [Cd(H2L)(SIP)(H2O)]·3H2O (4) were obtained by reactions of the different metal(II) salts with mixed ligands including 1,2,3-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H3btc), sodium 5-sulfoisophthalate (NaH2SIP) and 1-(4-(1H-imidazole-5-yl)phenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole (HL), respectively. All compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The study shows that the natures of organic ligands as well as metal ions play key roles in modulating the resulting frameworks of 1–4. The complex 1 is a (3, 4, 4)-connected three-dimensional (3D) net with the point (Schläfli) symbol of (42·63·8)4(64·8·10), while 2 is a two-dimensional (2D) layer structure referred as fes net with a Point (Schläfli) symbol of (4·82). Complex 3 has 2-nodal (3, 3, 4)-connected rare tfc net with a Point (Schlafli) symbol of (83)2(85·10), while 4 is a supramolecular polymer constructed from infinite one-dimensional (1D) chains by the interaction of rich hydrogen bonds and π - π stacking. The luminescent properties have been investigated for the compounds 1, 3, and 4 containing metal d10 Zn(II) and Cd(II) atoms.

Abstract:Three new metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), [Zn 2 (L)(H 2 O)] · 3DMF · 1.5H 2 O ( 1 ), [Zn 2 (L)(4,4′‐bpy) 1.5 (H 2 O) 2 ] · 2DMF · 2H 2 O ( 2 ), and [Zn 2 (L)(2,2′‐bpy) 2 (DMF) 2 ] · 2DMF · 4H 2 O ( 3 ) [H 4 L = 5,5′‐(2,3,5,6‐tetramethyl‐1,4‐phenylene)bis(methylene)bis(azanediyl)diisophthalic acid, 4,4′‐bpy = 4,4′‐bipyridine, 2,2′‐bpy = 2,2′‐bipyridine, DMF = N , N ‐dimethylformamide], were synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis, elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The L 4– ligands in 1 – 3 display different coordination modes, and the introduction of bipyridine colinkers brings significant structural variation into the frameworks. Complex 1 is constructed from dinuclear carboxylate [Zn 2 O(COO) 4 ] secondary building units (SBUs) and H 4 L ligands and exhibits a binodal (4,4)‐connected pts net with 54.6 % solvent‐accessible void. Complex 2 exhibits an unprecedented tetranodal (3,4,4,4)‐connected net, which is constructed from two types of crystallographically independent Zn II ions, H 4 L ligands, and the 4,4′‐bipyridine colinker. Complex 3 is constructed from parallel 1D molecular ladders stacked along the a axis that generate 1D channels (7.8 × 10.4 Å) and are hydrogen bonded to form 2D layers. The thermal stabilities and luminescence properties of 1 – 3 have also been studied in detail.

Abstract:A new tripodal carboxylic ligand, 2-(4-carboxylphenoxy) terephthalic acid (H3L2), readily reacts with Zn(II) salt in the presence of 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bipy) to afford a new metal-organic framework of {Zn3(L2)2(μ2-H2O)(4,4′-bipy)}n (1). 1 shows 3D two-fold interpenetrating network with (3,8)-connected tfz-d topology. 1 exhibits impressive pH stability and strong luminescence, making it an excellent candidate as a fluorescent chemical sensor. It is extremely responsive to toxic heavy metal ion (Hg2+) and TNT explosive. Importantly, 1 as the luminescent probe of Hg2+ can be simply and quickly regenerated, which represents a rare example in reported luminescent sensors of Hg2+. Furthermore, the photocatalytic property of 1 for degradation of the Rhodamine B (RhB) has been examined.

Abstract:A new metal-organic framework,{Zn[Zn3(BTA)3(μ3-OH)(H2O)3]2}n 1,has been synthesized under hydrothermal reaction of ZnCl2 and bis(5-tetrazolyl)amine(H2BTA),and characterized by elemental analysis,FT-IR,Raman spectrum,X-ray single-crystal diffraction,TGA and photoluminescence measurements.Compound 1 crystallizes in the trigonal system,space group P-3c1,a=13.667(3),c=12.981(3) ,V=2099.6(8) 3 and Z=2.The BTA2- ligand in 1 assumes the μ3 tetradentate mode with both 1,2-and 1,4-tetrazole bridges,generating an unusual 2-D layer,in which the [Zn3(μ3-OH)] triangular motifs act as three-connecting nodes and the mononuclear Zn atoms as six-connecting nodes that are inter-linked by organic ligands.Adjacent 2-D metal-organic layers are linked by strong hydrogen bonds to form a novel 3-D supramolecular framework.Complex 1 exhibits blue fluorescence emission in the solid state at ambient temperature.

Abstract:A new coordination polymer [Zn(BDC-I2)(DMF)]n (1) has been prepared by solvothermal reaction of Zn(II) nitrate with 2,5-diiodo-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2BDC-I2) in ethanol-DMF, and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction techniques. Complex 1 shows a two-dimensional network possessing dinuclear Zn2(CO2)4 secondary building units, which are further assembled into a three-dimensional supramolecular structure through intermolecular C-H···I interactions. Solid-state properties such as photoluminescence and thermal stability of 1 have also been investigated.

Abstract:A novel 3D metal-organic framework of zinc(II) imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylate, [Zn5(L)2(HL)2(DMF)4]n (1) (H3L=4,5-imidazoledicarboxylic acid), was solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system with the space group Pbca and cell parameters a=14.1613(8)Å, b=15.6764(9)Å, c=16.1345(9), V=3581.8(4)Å3 and Z=4. The crystal structure presents a novel 3D framework with the rare four-fold helical structure and open channels, exhibiting guest-coordination sites at channel walls and strong fluorescent emission.

Abstract:Through a kinetically controlled synthetic process, we synthesized PCN-223, a new porphyrinic Zr-MOF constructed from the newly reported hexagonal prismatic 12-connected Zr-6 cluster through an unusual disordered arrangement, giving rise to the first example of the shp-a network in MOFs. With its extremely high connectivity, PCN-223 shows high stability in aqueous solutions with a wide range of pH. Cationic PCN-223(Fe) formed by postsynthetic treatment is an excellent recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction.

Abstract:Metal organic frameworks(MOFs) have attracted much attention over the world during the last several decades. Constructed from metal ions and organic building units, MOFs have great properties in gas adsorption, catalysis, luminescence and magnetism. By varying the metal salts and organic building units, numerous MOF structures with designed functionalities and expected properties can be obtained. Among them, zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs) have been investigated greatly due to their high thermal and chemical stabilities and tunable porosities. ZIFs can be obtained with imidazolate compounds as organic building units, such as imidazole, benzimidazole and 2-methylimidazole. Zeolite structures are composed of tetrahedral Si(Al)O4 units, with Si―O―Si angle ca. 145°. ZIFs possess imidazole, with M―IM―M(M=metal, IM=imidazole) angle close to 145, resembling zeolite(Scheme 1).
