Abstract:In the paper the authors studied the effects on cognition of nouns' grammatical gender in Hakka dialect.The authors had designed two experiments to research them.In the first experiment the researchers used personate dubbing to survey whether the nouns' grammatical gender of Hakka dialect affected things' gender coding.In the second experiment they used folksonomy to survey whether the nouns' grammatical gender of Hakka dialect affected matter classification of Hakka speakers.The results revealed that the nouns' grammatical gender of Hakka dialect affected matter gender coding.The grammatical gender marks of Hakka dialect reinforced the testees' tendencies of things' gender coding.The gender coding accorded with the grammatical gender in most matter which with grammatical gender marks.There was a gender difference in matter gender coding of Hakka speakers.The nouns' grammatical gender affected matter classification.It affected members' tightness of conglomeration in the sort.
