Abstract:Numerical simulations of the temperature distributions in greenhouses are being more widely used to improve greenhouse de- signs so good numerical models are needed to give accurate results.Measured surface temperatures were used here for the boundary con- ditions to compare two and three dimensional steady-state CFD models to predict the fluid flow and temperatures inside a solar green- house with a 12 m span. The 2D and 3D predicted temperature profiles are very similar in the middle cross section, with beth agreeing well with measured data. The temperature differences between the calculated and measured temperatures at the front and back of the greenhouse are less than 5%,with the differences in the middle part, especially near the soil surface, somewhat larger.Comparisons of the air temperatures 1 m above the soil surface in the middle and 1 m from each side wall suggested that the side walls have little impact on the temperatures in the middle cross section for greenhouse lengths more than twice the span. Therefore,a two-dimension simulation is reasonable for a long greenhouse.
