Abstract:According to the household survey data of rural household of national poverty counties in 2005,this paper empirically studies the influence of factors including income,consumption environment,consumption concept and demographic characteristics on the consumption of rural residents in China’s poverty-stricken areas.The result shows that,constructing highways helps to increase rural residents’ consumption expenditure;expanding family scale may lead to the decrease of consumption expenditure;if any family members works in urban area, the consumption concept of rural residents are influenced by those family members working in urban area,which can impact the family consumption expenditure;the consumption level of Han nationality in China’s poverty-stricken areas is higher than that of minority ethnic group;family structure has significant effects on rural residents’ consumption expenditure as well.Finally,it puts forward some suggestions on improving rural residents’ consumption in China’s poverty-stricken areas,such as increasing rural residents’ incomes, accelerating the infrastructure construction in rural area,changing the consumption concept of rural residents as well as providing more supports for the development of minority ethnic areas.
