Abstract:The Ising-like phase transitions in square lattice fully frustrated (FF) XY models are studied using the short-time Monte Carlo method for two realizations: (A) Ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic couplings arranged in a zigzag pattern and (B) they arranged in an alternate columns pattern. We find that the critical exponent v is dependent on the definition of order parameters: the staggered chiral magnetization M-chi and the staggered magnetization M-st. For both kinds of FFXY models, they have almost the same short-time behavior with critical exponent v < 1.

Abstract:We develop the description of non-commutative geometry of the 4-dimensional quantum Hall fluid's theory proposed recently by Zhang and Hu. The non-commutative structure of fuzzy S4, which is the base of the bundle S7 obtained by the second Hopf fibration, i.e., S7/S3=S4, appears naturally in this theory. The fuzzy monopole harmonics, which are the essential elements in the non-commutative algebra of functions on S4, are explicitly constructed and their obeying the matrix algebra is obtained. This matrix algebra is associative. We also propose a fusion scheme of the fuzzy monopole harmonics of the coupling system from those of the subsystems, and determine the fusion rule in such fusion scheme. By products, we provide some essential ingredients of the theory of SO(5) angular momentum. In particular, the explicit expression of the coupling coefficients, in the theory of SO(5) angular momentum, are given. We also discuss some possible applications of our results to the 4-dimensional quantum Hall system and the matrix brane construction in M-theory.
Non-Abelian Phases in Two-Componentν=2/3fractional Quantum Hall States: Emergence of Fibonacci Anyons

Abstract:Recent theoretical insights into the possibility of non-Abelian phases in nu = 2/3 fractional quantum Hall states revived the interest in the numerical phase diagram of the problem. We investigate the effect of various kinds of two-body interlayer couplings on the (330) bilayer state and exactly solve the Hamiltonian for up to 14 electrons on sphere and torus geometries. We consider interlayer tunneling, short-ranged repulsive/attractive pseudopotential interactions, and Coulomb repulsion. We find a 6-fold ground-state degeneracy on the torus when the interlayer hollow-core interaction is dominant. To identify the topological nature of this phase we measure the orbital-cut entanglement spectrum, quasihole counting, topological entanglement entropy, and wave-function overlap. Comparing the numerical results to the theoretical predictions, we interpret this 6-fold ground-state degeneracy phase to be the non-Abelian bilayer Fibonacci state.

Abstract:We reproduce Chang's duality condition in a regularized $\phi^4_{1+1}$ theory quantized on a light front. The regularization involves higher derivatives in the Lagrangian, renders the model finite in the ultraviolet, and does not require introduction of a finite size of the system. It is demonstrated that the light-front quantization is a natural way to treat systems with higher derivatives. The phase transition is related to the presence of tachyons in the regularized theory. Prospects for computing the critical coupling in this formulation are briefly discussed.

Abstract:Phase ordering dynamics of the (2+1)- and (3+1)-dimensional $\phi^4$ theory with Hamiltonian equations of motion is investigated numerically. Dynamic scaling is confirmed. The dynamic exponent $z$ is different from that of the Ising model with dynamics of model A, while the exponent $\lambda$ is the same.

Topologically Distinct Critical Theories Emerging from the Bulk Entanglement Spectrum of Integer Quantum Hall States on A Lattice

Abstract:The critical theories for the topological phase transitions of integer quantum Hall states to a trivial insulating state with the same symmetry can be obtained by calculating the ground state entanglement spectrum under a symmetric checkerboard bipartition. In contrast to the gapless edge excitations under the left-right bipartition, a quantum network with bulk gapless excitations naturally emerges at the Brillouin zone center without fine tuning. On a large finite lattice, the resulting critical theory for the $\nu =1$ state is the (2+1) dimensional relativistic quantum field theory characterized by a \textit{single} Dirac cone spectrum and a pair of \textit{fractionalized} zero-energy states, while for the $\nu =2$ state the critical theory exhibits a parabolic spectrum and no sign of fractionalization in the zero-energy states. A triangular correspondence is established among the bulk topological theory, gapless edge theory, and the critical theory via the ground state entanglement spectrum.

Abstract:We study the $3$-component $\phi^4$ model on the simple cubic lattice in presence of a cubic perturbation. To this end, we perform Monte Carlo simulations in conjunction with a finite size scaling analysis of the data. The analysis of the renormalization group (RG)-flow of a dimensionless quantity provides us with the accurate estimate $Y_4 - \omega_2 =0.00081(7)$ for the difference of the RG-eigenvalue $Y_4$ at the $O(3)$-symmetric fixed point and the correction exponent $\omega_2$ at the cubic fixed point. We determine an effective exponent $\nu_{eff}$ of the correlation length that depends on the strength of the breaking of the $O(3)$ symmetry. Field theory predicts that depending on the sign of the cubic perturbation, the RG-flow is attracted by the cubic fixed point, or runs to an ever increasing amplitude, indicating a fluctuation induced first order phase transition. We demonstrate directly the first order nature of the phase transition for a sufficiently strong breaking of the $O(3)$ symmetry. We obtain accurate results for the latent heat, the correlation length in the disordered phase at the transition temperature and the interface tension for interfaces between one of the ordered phases and the disordered phase. We study how these quantities scale with the RG-flow, allowing quantitative predictions for weaker breaking of the $O(3)$ symmetry.

Disordered Lattice Glass $ϕ^{4}$ Quantum Field Theory

Abstract:We study numerically the three-dimensional $\phi^{4}$ spin glass, a prototypical disordered and discretized Euclidean field theory that manifests inhomogeneities in space and time but considers a homogeneous squared mass and lambda terms. The $\phi^{4}$ lattice glass field theory is a conceptual generalization of spin glasses to continuous degrees of freedom and we discuss the existence of a limit under which it formally reduces to the Edwards-Anderson model. By defining four variants of an order parameter which are suitable for continuous spin glasses, we verify numerically the emergence of an overlap in absence of the magnetization thus confirming the presence of a spin glass phase transition for a value of a critical squared mass. We conclude by discussing how the $\phi^{4}$ spin glass can be utilized to address assumptions of complete homogeneity in space or time and how, in parallel to statistical physics, provides a suitable framework to investigate the nonperturbative dynamics of machine learning algorithms from the perspective of disordered lattice and constructive field theory.

Abstract:We propose an exactly solvable lattice model, motivated by the significance of the extended Hubbard model ($t-U-V$ model) and inspired by the work of Hatsugai and Kohmoto. The ground state exhibits a diverse array of phases, including the charge-$4e$ condensed phase, the charge-$2e$ superconducting phase, the half-filled insulating phase, the quarter-filled insulating phase, the metallic phase, and an unconventional metallic phase. Among them, the unconventional metallic phase could be of particular significance, for the coexistence of electrons and pairs at zero energy. These findings are poised to advance our understanding and exploration of strongly correlated physics.

Abstract:Higher-order topological phases as the generalization of Berry phases attract an enormous amount of research. The current theoretical models supporting higher-order topological phases, however, cannot give the connection between lower-order and higher-order topological phases when extending the lattice from lower to higher dimensions. Here, we theoretically propose and experimentally demonstrate a topological corner state constructed from the edge states in a one-dimensional lattice. The two-dimensional square lattice owns independent spatial modulation of coupling in each direction, and the combination of edge states in two directions comes up to the higher-order topological corner state in a two-dimensional lattice, revealing the connection of topological phase in lower- and higher-dimensional lattices. Our work deepens the understanding of the topological phases breaking through the lattice dimensions, and provides a promising tool constructing higher topological phases in higher-dimensional structures.

Abstract:We explore the phase structure of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) with two dynamical quark flavors at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential, employing the non-perturbative gauge/gravity duality approach. Our gravitational model is tailored to align with state-of-the-art lattice data regarding the thermal properties of multi-flavor QCD. Following a rigorous parameter calibration to match equations of state and the QCD trace anomaly at zero chemical potential derived from cutting-edge lattice QCD simulations, we investigate thermodynamic quantities and order parameters. We predict the location of the critical endpoint (CEP) at $(\mu_{\text{CEP}}, T_{\text{CEP}})=(219,182)$ MeV at which a line of first-order phase transitions terminate. We compute critical exponents associated with the CEP and find that they almost coincide with the critical exponents of the quantum 3D Ising model.

Abstract:In this contribution, we summarize our recent studies of the phase structure of the Grosse-Wulkenhaar model and its connection to renormalizability. Its action contains a special term that couples the field to the curvature of the noncommutative background space. We first analyze the numerically obtained phase diagram of the model and its three phases: the ordered, the disordered, and the noncommutative stripe phase. Afterward, we discuss the analytical derivation of the effective action and the ordered-to-stripe transition line, and how the obtained expression successfully explains the curvature-induced shift of the triple point compared to the model without curvature. This shift also causes the removal of the stripe phase and makes the model renormalizable.

Abstract:Quantum loop and dimer models are prototypical correlated systems with local constraints, which are not only intimately connected to lattice gauge theories and topological orders but are also widely applicable to the broad research areas of quantum materials and quantum simulation. Employing our sweeping cluster quantum Monte Carlo algorithm, we reveal the complete phase diagram of the triangular-lattice fully packed quantum loop model. Apart from the known lattice nematic (LN) solid and the even $\mathbb{Z}_2$ quantum spin liquid (QSL) phases, we discover a hidden vison plaquette (VP) phase, which had been overlooked and misinterpreted as a QSL for more than a decade. Moreover, the VP-to-QSL continuous transition belongs to the $(2+1)$D cubic* universality class, which offers a lattice realization of the (fractionalized) cubic fixed point that had long been considered as irrelevant towards the O($3$) symmetry until corrected recently by conformal bootstrap calculations. Our results are therefore of relevance to recent developments in both experiments and theory, and facilitate further investigations of hidden phases and transitions.

Abstract:We study the phase structure of five-dimensional Yang-Mills theories coupled to Dirac fermions. In order to tackle their nonperturbative character, we derive the flow equations for the gauge coupling and the effective potential for the Aharonov-Bohm phases employing the functional renormalization group. We analyze the infrared and ultraviolet fixed-point solutions in the flow of the gauge coupling as a function of the compactification radius of the fifth dimension. We discuss various types of trajectories which smoothly connect both dimensional limits. Abstract:Gauge theories with matter fields in various representations play an important role in different branches of physics. Recently, it was proposed that several aspects of the interesting pseudogap phase of cuprate superconductors near optimal doping may be explained by an emergent $SU(2)$ gauge symmetry. Around the transition with positive hole-doping, one can construct a $(2+1)-$dimensional $SU(2)$ gauge theory coupled to four adjoint scalar fields which gives rise to a rich phase diagram with a myriad of phases having different broken symmetries. We study the phase diagram of this model on the Euclidean lattice using the Hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm. We find the existence of multiple broken phases as predicted by previous mean field studies. Depending on the quartic couplings, the $SU(2)$ gauge symmetry is broken down either to $U(1)$ or $\mathbb{Z}_2$ in the perturbative description of the model. We further study the confinement-deconfinement transition in this theory, and find that both the broken phases are deconfining in the range of volumes that we studied. However, there exists a marked difference in the behavior of the Polyakov loop between the two phases.

Abstract:The interplay between lattice gauge theories and fermionic matter accounts for fundamental physical phenomena ranging from the deconfinement of quarks in particle physics to quantum spin liquid with fractionalized anyons and emergent gauge structures in condensed matter physics. However, except for certain limits (for instance large number of flavors of matter fields), analytical methods can provide few concrete results. Here we show that the problem of compact $U(1)$ lattice gauge theory coupled to fermionic matter in $(2+1)$D is possible to access via sign-problem-free quantum Monte Carlo simulations. One can hence map out the phase diagram as a function of fermion flavors and the strength of gauge fluctuations. By increasing the coupling constant of the gauge field, gauge confinement in the form of various spontaneous symmetry breaking phases such as valence bond solid (VBS) and N\'eel antiferromagnet emerge. Deconfined phases with algebraic spin and VBS correlation functions are also observed. Such deconfined phases are an incarnation of exotic states of matter, $i.e.$ the algebraic spin liquid, which is generally viewed as the parent state of various quantum phases. The phase transitions between deconfined and confined phases, as well as that between the different confined phases provide various manifestations of deconfined quantum criticality. In particular, for four flavors, $N_f = 4$, our data suggests a continuous quantum phase transition between the VBS and Néel order. We also provide preliminary theoretical analysis for these quantum phase transitions.

Abstract:We investigate the behavior of the chiral condensate in lattice QCD at finite temperature and finite chemical potential. The study was done using two flavors of light quarks and with a series of β and ma at the lattice size 24×122×6. The calculation was done in the Taylor expansion formalism. We are able to calculate the first and second order derivatives of ψψ in both isoscalar and isovector channels. With the first derivatives being small, we find that the second derivatives are sizable close to the phase transition and that the magnitude of ψψ decreases under the influence of finite chemical potential in both channels.
