Effects of Clinical Pathway Management on the Medical Quality Indicators

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of clinical pathway management(CPM) on the control of medical qualityindicator.Methods The observation groups were established in some clinical departments that actualized CPM clinical pathway management in some single diseases.Their control groups(retrospective groups) were established respectively in the similar patients of the departments,which did not carry out on equality time period prior.In addition,the control group(simultaneous group) in inguinal hernia tension-free hernioplasty patients was established in another department of the general surgery at the same time as observation group,which did not develop CPM the management of clinical pathway.The differences between the different observation groups with the corresponding control groups were expected in the health-related indicators,such as the average days of hospital stay,the length time waiting for surgery,hospital costs,general medicine costs,drug income ratio,recovery or one-time success ratio,complication ratio,patient satisfaction scores and complaints ratio,and so on.Results The average days of hospital stay reduced and the patient satisfaction scores increased significantly in all single diseases observed.The length time waiting for surgery,average hospital costs,general medicine costs,drug income ratio,complication ratio decreased in most parts of observation groups.Healing rates markedly enhanced in hemifacialspasm microvaxcular decompression.Mentioned above all the differences are statistically significant.Conclusion Adopting CPMclinical pathway management can optimize treatment process,standardize medical care,improve enhance health care efficiency efficiencyand diagnosis-treatment level,control the irrational rise in medical cost,promote communication between medical personnel and patient,actualize rational use of medical resourcesimprove medical quality indicators,enhance medical quality.
