Abstract:Those poets relegated to southern China in the Mid-Tang Dynasty all showed a Qu Yuan complex in their poems.For example,under the influence of Qu Yuan's poems,such as LI SAO and JIU GE,Liu Yuxi and Liu Zongyuan expressed primarily a spirit of complaint and fury while the more rational Yuan Zhen and Bai Juyi both accepted Qu Yuan's character of loyalty and uprightness but refused to follow his will of consistence.In contrast,Han Yu and Li Shen expressed their complaint about innocent mistreatment by comparing their experience to Qu Yuan's miserable treatment.The Qu Yuan complex of the poets relegated in the Early and Prosperous Tang Dynasty was the very source of that of the relegated poets in the Mid-Tang Dynasty.In general,the former was rational while the latter was sentimental but more tragic than the former.

Abstract:The moment he started pondering on aesthetics, Wang Guowei developed the essential thought of Dream of the Red Chamber. Before him, no scholar had discovered the internal tie between the novel and national spirit; no scholar had realized that the classic was an epic of the revival of the great national spirit. Yet Wang Guowei focused on what had been ignored by others, meditating on the spiritual dimension created by Dream of the Red Chamber. He added a new dimension to interpret the novel, especially when he revealed “the third kind of tragedies”, or “the tragedy of the tragedy." However, overwhelmed by the tragic complex, he turned to seek for “mukti," which leaved much regret to his aesthetic reflection.

Abstract:Through the analysis of Xiao Hong's novel Sheng Si Chang (Field of Life and Death), this article points out that Xiao Hong's writing was quite loyal to the being of the modern Chinese folk due to her experience of frustrations with a sensitive heart. On the stand of enlightenment, she reached the perfection both in the depth of exposing the ignorance and savageness of Chinese folk and in revealing their firm holds of life and bitter struggles before death, which proves Xiao Hong among the best writers in modern China. Her poetic tone, lyrical sentences and hovering emotions, also mark herself as one of the modern Chinese writers who owned a keen sense of literary style.
A Camel of Xiangzi:An Enlightening Tragedy from a Folk View

Abstract:This paper makes an exploration of the relationship between the folk and the enlightening and Lao She the author's psychlogy of writing , which underlines the text of A Camel of Xiangzi. Symbolically, the novel has an implicit structure, namely, a man's path of downfall. In Xiangzi's struggle against the fate, Hunu and Ruan Ming acted only as the roles of lure of the web respectively. And a hierarchic interpretation of the image of Hunu in the novel's explicit structure reveals the rich implication and immortal charm of Hunu as an artistic image both in the folk form and in the real sense of human nature. However, the novel leaves something to be desirable in the later part. As a member of townpeople, Lao She goes beyond his limitations when he describes Xiangzi's charge at the political web. Although he is bitterly critical about the townpeople, he is not likely to create a distillation of spirit.

Abstract:Wei Zhuang(韋莊) is famous poet of late Tang(晩唐) and Wu dai(五代). His poetry was renowned as a sentimental tone. But he also wrote poetry that reflect real life. His realistic poetry was written on reflect of the chaos caused by war, criticism of ruling group and anxiety of the fortunes etc. The chaos caused by war denote a peasant uprising of Huang Chao(黃巢). Wei Zhuang(韋莊)'s poetry mainly described a miserable condition of the chaos caused by war. He think confusion of nation is caused by the fortunes. Therefore, he criticized a pleasure-seeking and incompetence of the fortunes. He always desire eagerly to resume the fortunes because he love his country, so he wrote a poetry in anxiety the fortunes. He is regarded as a realistic poet because he wrote poetry of the kind.

Abstract:Camel Xiangzi has rich connotations as far as its text is concerned.Its aesthetics in narrative is different from traditional novels.The work concentrated on the three times of ups and downs of Qiangzi's rickshaw purchase and pursuit of love.That is to say,Xiangzi underwent three times of ups and downs in physical and mental world,which was how his tragic life came to be.It was the incarnation of Lao She's pessimistic consciousness and fatalism.Hence,we can see that Lao She had penetrated into the deep sense of human nature in terms of reflections of nationalism,in which he made explorations of life from ontological viewpoint.The superorganic aesthetics of his works implies Lao She's innovation in novel creation and his exquisite knowledge of Western and Chinese cultures,on which the new narrative guidelines of literature narration was formed,i.e.,"the mental literature" of "mutual use of humans and things".

Abstract:Yu Hua is an outstanding novelist. His early novels, with a grim style and a tone of extremity, focus on conspiracy, death, violence, and the chaos and irrationalities of the world to express a skeptical and subversive attitude to life conventions and social norms. They reflect the hostility and tension between the novelist and the reality and represent the achievements of the exploration into human existence by the 1980s' pioneering novels. The hardships of life was the major theme of Yu Hua's novels since the 1990s, which also indicates the transformation of attitude from enlightening intellectuals to emphasizing the civic value. The joy, kindness, tenderness and generosity of human life appease the ruthless emotions in his earlier works. Yu Hua's stern narrative style, influenced by France's Nouveau Roman, and such writers as Lu Xun, Franz Kafka and Hemingway. His description of the details is vivid, rich, accurate and imaginative, and his language is simple, fine and fluent. This composes the most important part of Yu Hua's artistic talent. His attention to the details, though is a reflection of his ability, at the same time is a limitation to his creation.

Abstract:The Western tragic heroes, who are often destinguished persons with definite will to challenge, can actively take action, dominate the situation, bring fatal destruction to the enemy at the cost of great pains for themselves; the disasterous end, which is out of their own choice, is the fulfillment of their own will without much regret, therefore poetic justice is not needed. The Chinese tragic heroes, who are often kind-hearted weak persons without will to challenge, are not even well-prepared to protect themselves; without active measures, they can not attack the enemy efficiently, so they have to suffer passively; the disasterous result is caused by external forces, against their own will, therefore poetic justice is needed to pacify the anger in the readers' mind. The different fortunes of poetic justice in China and Western ccountries have deep roots in their culture, showing different relations between happiness and virtue.

Abstract:The novels “Exiled Immortal” and “A Touch of Green” are included in Bai Xianyong’s novels The New Yorker and Taipei People, respectively. In Bai Xianyong’s works, the concern for women is a constant topic, and he transforms himself into a combination of rationality and sensibility, sculpts the contours of the times and society, and captures the image of women in the plot through the language and behavioral details between reality and fiction. The tragic dimension magnifies the existence of women, the ups and downs of fate, the sadness of a foreign land, or the loss of self as a way to think about the dilemma of women’s existence. This paper focuses on female tragedy from a three-dimensional perspective: the causes, the deep narrative techniques, and the tragic endings. The study seeks to deepen the understanding of the delicate sense of female tragedy in the writing of Bai Xianyong.

Abstract:Tragedy, as an important form of human art, transcends time and space with its profound emotions and noble spiritual content, becoming a carrier of cultural resonance around the world. In different cultural backgrounds, the aesthetics of tragedy presents a variety of styles. These differences are reflected not only in aesthetic orientation but also in expressive techniques and value pursuits. Hamlet, as a distinguished representative of Western tragedy, constructs a unique and magnificent tragic tableau through its deep psychological analysis, complex character development, and intense conflict. The complexity and contradiction of human nature are vividly displayed in this work. In contrast, traditional Chinese aesthetic concepts place more emphasis on harmony, balance, and inner beauty. This aesthetic orientation emphasizes the moderation of emotions and moral education, pursuing a restrained and implicit beauty. In traditional Chinese tragedies, characters are often more reserved and implicit, with more controlled and moderate emotional expression. Comparing the tragic aesthetics in Hamlet with traditional Chinese aesthetic views reveals significant differences in several aspects. This comparison helps us understand more deeply the art of tragedy under different cultural backgrounds, recognize the complexity and diversity of human nature, and profoundly appreciate the fragility and preciousness of life.

Abstract:This paper probes deeply into the aesthetic value and shaping mode of the characters in the works of the Tales of Liaozhai by Pu Songling, a Chinese writer in Qing Dynasty. By analyzing Pu Songling's writing style, aesthetic concept and the shaping way of several typical characters, this paper reveals his unique aesthetic pursuit and literary talent in his works. The contrast of the images of gods, demons and human beings, the characteristics of characters and the description of images all show Pu Songling's deep thinking about human nature, fate and supernatural power. The influence of the ancient aesthetic concept on his works and the re-interpretation of the characters under the contemporary aesthetic concept are also discussed. The characters in Pu Songling's works not only have historical significance, but also radiate new vitality and significance in the field of contemporary literature, bringing readers profound thinking and aesthetic experience.
