Abstract:Aim:To investigate the effects of HIV infection on the prognosis of HCV infected former blood donor(FBDs).Methods:All the subjects in this investigation came from a village in central China.A standardized questionnaire was administrated by trained personnel and blood was drawn for laboratory testing and storage.A total of 133 HIV/HCV co-infected patients,152 HCV mono-infected patients, and 29 HIV mono-infected patients were identified and followed up for 5 years. Results:During the 5-year follow-up,the mortality rate among HIV/HCV co-infection group,HCV mono-infection group and HIV mono-infection group were 19.5%,2.0%,and 24.1%(χ2=24.641,P0.001),and the median survival time were 58.937,76.459 and 55.103 years(χ2=35.046,P0.001).The levels of AST,ALP,GGT and total protein were highest in HIV/HCV co-infection group(F=4.451,11.509,9.285,and 4.810,P0.05).There were significant differences among the 3 groups in the prevalence rate of hepatic adipose infiltration(H=11.911,P=0.003)and in the prevalence rate of liver-spot thickening(H=36.921,P0.001)in B-ultrasound examination. Conclusion:HIV infection can accelerate liver damage, and affect the prognosis of HCV infectors seriously.
